Warnings: Paintball, loss of consciousness, and partying!

As is par for the course in Hadriel, at some point throughout the day- waking up, making breakfast, doing laundry- you find an item. This isn't just any item though, it's a tried and true paintball gun, shining and just waiting to be picked up. This gun never runs out of ammunition, never malfunctions, and almost always hits the target that you're aiming at, so say hello to your new best friend for the next week.

Touching or picking up the gun will fill you with a competitive surge, which will likely increase when you find the note that's left with it, saying nothing more than be the last one standing. With instructions like that, how could you lose?

Well, you could lose if someone else shoots you. But never fear, there's a plan for that too! Even if you embrace the throes of unconsciousness, the gods have got your back and will eventually teleport you into a grand party where prizes will be handed out based on how long you survived. Awesome! At this party is also the traditional copious amounts of food and drink, as well as everyone's favorite goddess Delight and everyone's slightly-less-favorite goddess Rage!

I think so; I haven't fired mine, but it definitely looks and feels like a real gun. All the moving parts seem to be there.

[It's possible it's an elaborate fake, but--]

Since they came with bullets as well, I think it's very likely they're real. That makes them a pretty valuable prize in this place, considering the shortage of firearms and ammunition.

Hmm. I've never shot a gun before. Unless you count the paintball guns. [ that's both exciting and nerve-wracking. it took her a little bit to get used to the paintball gun, and she imagines the real gun won't really be similar. ]

But maybe we won't actually need them.

I've only had reason to use mine here during new arrival day, at least so far.

[So he'll tentatively hope that they indeed won't need them for anything beyond that, and so if she stays out of the arena than she won't need it at all.]

But if you've never fired one it's definitely a good idea to practice first. Otherwise, you might be able to trade it for something more useful to you.

I guess I'll have to practice. I've already got knives and it seems like a gun goes a lot farther with the kid of trouble we have here. [ dude, haven't you heard that saying about bringing a knife to a gun fight? Cashmere's not gonna be stuck with the lesser weapon if she can help it. ]

Honestly, I can't believe they gave us guns. I hope that's not their way of preparing us for this whole Null thing.

That's how I feel about it, although it seems not everyone here agrees.

[He's maybe a little annoyed still about how many people told him to just use a knife or a sword instead. As far as the Null--]

Maybe, although if defeating the Null is as simple as using a firearm I don't think they'd be as big of a threat as they seem to be.

[He's a little more concerned about a related possibility.]

Unless the gods want us to have more weapons to use against each other, since some people are planning to side with the Null.

[ oh, good. it's always nice to have your unvoiced anxiety echoed by someone else. at that point, it's essentially become an actual theory. ]

I wondered about that too. People are a little tense about the Null thing... and the interrogation. So I'm not sure people will make the best decisions. And now a bunch of us have deadly weapons. Great.

[Oh no, they're both thinking the same. Yeah, that's never a great sign when it's about something bad.]

If it's any consolation, most people here had deadly weapons beforehand.

[It's a very dry joke, because obviously that's no consolation at all.]

That's a good point, I could have spent this whole time being generally afraid for my safety. How silly of me.

[ but not to worry, they have plenty of terror-filled moments ahead. ] At least these little sandwiches are good. And there's olives, which I like.

No, you definitely had the right idea in skipping out on that; it's not very fun.

[He's normally a little stressed out, but it's been pretty much nonstop here since he arrived. Still, he gives a small laugh at her looking on the bright side.]

I'm not really big on olives, but they have blueberries. I think I saw pizza too, but I haven't double-checked because I'm not sure I'd eat anything else if there really is pizza here.

[And he should get some variety while he has the opportunity.]

Pizza's the bread with all the cheese on it? [ she's heard about it, but never had any herself. she's just not... sure about it. ] Is it really that good?

Yeah, usually with some other topping too, and yes. It's that good. Even when it's bad, it's usually good.

[He's had some disappointing pizza, but never anything he'd consider bad; still, he's heard tales that it's possible, hence the 'usually.']

Huh. Well, if you see some, let me know. I'd like to try it, assuming it won't turn me into a monster of some sort. [ you can't be too sure about these things. ]
