Event Log: Party Royale

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the Party Royale event
Where: All over the city!
When: September 22nd-29th
Warnings: Paintball, loss of consciousness, and partying!

As is par for the course in Hadriel, at some point throughout the day- waking up, making breakfast, doing laundry- you find an item. This isn't just any item though, it's a tried and true paintball gun, shining and just waiting to be picked up. This gun never runs out of ammunition, never malfunctions, and almost always hits the target that you're aiming at, so say hello to your new best friend for the next week.

Touching or picking up the gun will fill you with a competitive surge, which will likely increase when you find the note that's left with it, saying nothing more than be the last one standing. With instructions like that, how could you lose?

Well, you could lose if someone else shoots you. But never fear, there's a plan for that too! Even if you embrace the throes of unconsciousness, the gods have got your back and will eventually teleport you into a grand party where prizes will be handed out based on how long you survived. Awesome! At this party is also the traditional copious amounts of food and drink, as well as everyone's favorite goddess Delight and everyone's slightly-less-favorite goddess Rage!

Happy paintballing, and may the odds be ever in your favor!

► This log covers September 22nd-29th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you fall and break your neck or something because you can't die in paintball, please let us know here.

"Yeah, all right." He nodded and got to work lifting the unconscious people. "I might be able to give you a bit of a boost in strength or stamina if you need it." he said. "Chances are, I'll end up boosting myself anyway just a little. One drawback of being more compact...things like this are more awkward sometimes." His five foot eight frame made it tougher to do a lift like this than if he'd been as tall as his dad. A Force boost was a big help.

"I think you should keep your stamina in case you need it yourself. I'm pretty good at maintaining mine unaided. But thank your for the offer, Luke."

True, there is that difference in their heights. Curufin is six foot two (in his boots), and though his basic frame is a slim one, years of handling heavy weapons and heavy tools and also of being a mountaineer have left him with powerful ams, shoulders, and legs.

"But we'll do just fine, between the two of us."

He runs back to the firehouse to get the ladder truck, which has an internal compartment right behind the cab, and a separate door for that. This compartment can be used for extra riders or for an ambulance.

He brings the truck up, parks it, comes back to where Luke is, and grabs one of the unconscious people by an arm and a leg, slings him up on those broad shoulders, and carries him into the ambulance compartment.

Together, they get all of the people in. "Shall I drive or shall you drive?" he asks.

"All right." Luke replied. He, too, had a muscular build from years of discipline and training, and his arms and legs are strong enough, so he should be all right.

"Yeah, we will." he agreed.

He helps get the people in and then turns back to Curufin. "I'm okay either way. I don't mind, but if you want to, go ahead."

The two of them work well together, with their muscular physiques, piling the unconscious bodies into the compartment.

"In that case, I call shotgun, and you can take the wheel," says Curufin with a grin. He climbs into the passenger seat in the cab. And then he digs in his pockets and hands over the ignition key in case Luke doesn't have his own keys with him.

And off to the Clinic!

{{OOC: If okay with you, I'm gonna assume that Luke has his own keys to all the vehicles, as well as to the pumping station and the firehouse. }}

"All right." Luke agreed. "It's okay, I have mine." He pulled them out and started the engine.

"I just hope this isn't permanent. I mean...I know most of the time, people wake up or come back...but you never really know. I just hope they'll be all right."

An expression of uneasiness crossed Curufin's face.

"I hope they're all right, too. I was assuming this was just a game, and I got involved. I was having fun. But. . . damn the gods, they have such bizarre ways of thinking. They might just think it's funny to get people to kill each other, believing they are only playing a game."

Luke nodded. "I really don't like the things that they seem to want to let happen here. It's not right." he agreed.

"That's the understatement of the year!" Curufin observes, with a wry chuckle.

It isn't far to the Clinic, and soon they are pulling up in front of it. Curufin hops out, runs around to the ambulance compartment door and pulls it open. "Once we get these people inside, I suppose we could keep driving around and see if we can find anybody else who needs a lift?" (Pun intended.)

"Yeah, it probably is" he agrees.

They'ere at the clinic quickly, and Luke nods as he helps unload the patients.

"That's probably best." he replies. "I have a feeling there are more."

"I don't doubt it for a moment," says Curufin. "The way everybody's running around shooting each other. . . there are bound to be unconscious people by the cartload!"

Not that Curufin hasn't been contributing to the problem himself. It's just that with Luke here, the firefighters' ethics are invoked, and so he does an about-face and starts behaving like the rescuer he is in his current life.

They haul the people into the clinic. And there, they hear the news -- the people who get paintballed remain unconscious but don't otherwise appear to be harmed. The healers are hopeful that this means they'll awaken when this event is over.

Luke and Curufin emerge from the Clinic building and head off to find more of them.

Luke didn't like it, but he figured it had to be true. So many had been using the weapons, and there was no telling how many had been hit before they'd realized the extend of the problem. "Yeah, I agree."

He listened along with Curufin and thought about the situation as they went back out to find more.

Apparently, there were others who were doing the same as they were -- taking unconscious people to the Clinic. If they saw anybody struggling to carry anybody, Curufin and Luke stopped and volunteered their services as an ambulance. They probably thereby saved the Clinic staff from having to treat a number of cases of back-injury that day!

After a while, they had the city center cleared of bodies and they were working their way out towards the outlying neighborhoods.

They crossed the river and checked out the area of Tranquility's temple and the moped lot. Surprisingly, a lot of people had picked this region to paintball each other. There was a whole heap of people by the temple wall.

"Guess this group were all terrible at running away," chuckled Curufin, as he squatted down to make sure they were all simply unconscious and not in any other way injured.

"Here, help me with this guy! He's heavy." Curufin took the big guy's shoulders and waited for Luke to take his feet, so they could sling him into the fire engine compartment.

"Yeah, looks like it." he agreed. It was tiring, even for him, to keep going like he was, but he felt there'd be time to rest later. He had to keep going as long as possible.

He got to work right away and when Curufin asked for help with the big guy, Luke didn't hesitate to do as asked, grabbing the feet and helping get the guy into the compartment.

They carefully stacked the people on the floor of the compartment, keeping them as comfortable as possible -- though there was no knowing whether or not the victims would or would not have any memory of their experiences after they had gotten hit with the paintballs. The two firefighters placed small pillows under the people's heads and covered them with some spare blankets.

Curufin laughed a small wry laugh. "I feel like we ought to be tucking business cards into their pockets, with phone numbers and net addresses. How about this? -- DOA? Not if we have anything to say about it! When you need an ambulance right away, call the Hadriel City Fire Brigade! We'll get you to the Clinic on time!"

Luke helped, not sure either what they'd remember. They were present in the Force to him but figuring out if they had any awareness or memories wasn't possible at the moment.

He laughed. "Yeah, maybe. Advertising is always good."

Good place to wrap? -- we can catch each other in the latest Null plot

The unconscious people were at least breathing and apparently not wounded. They would hopefully be all right, and they were going somewhere they'd be comfortable -- some nice cots at the Clinic. The healers there would sort it all out.

Curufin laughed with Luke. Humor always helps!

Luke was glad to help as much as he could, though by the time he and Curufin finished, he was tired, much like at the fire. He looked forward to a good rest after everyone had been gotten to safety.
