Event Log: End of Arc 2

What: The event log for the End of Arc 2
Where: All over the city

Warnings: A full-scale battle, including character death, NPC death, and various other ways to suffer

It was bound to happen. The Null warned you, after all, and this has been building for awhile - and now it's here. First comes the initial attack, the agents of the Null attacking Hope's temple. Then, an SOS, warning the city of what's happened: a betrayal, and Hope being injured. Luckily for everyone, thanks to the actions of his guards Hope survives the attack. Unluckily, his attacker, the goddess Delight, escapes and lets the Null in.

Flooding into the cave, the Null will attack anyone who they believe is resisting them. They'll destroy buildings and deploy dangerous crowd control weapons, in addition to their sheer strength and speed. Confusion empties the monsters in the tunnels into the city, to help distract the Null. Some gods fight, others provide safe havens, but everyone is in danger.

After about a week and a half of the attack, Fear summons enough power to teleport the city. This stops any new Null from arriving through the tunnels, but the remaining Null must be hunted down and destroyed, or else they'll signal their location to the rest of their species. The danger will lessen as Null are taken out, but things won't really be safe until Fear moves the city again, so don't get too comfortable.

What will you do? Run and hide? Fight? Help the fighters? Turn on the gods yourself? Whatever you do, it's time to make a decision.

It's not worth your life, Margaery-ya! If Hope succumbs, none of us are coming back. Ever. None of this is worth sacrificing ourselves any longer.

[he might have considered it early in the fight, but it's been two weeks. There's no longer any sense in any of what they're doing]

Well, if it's not worth sacrificing ourselves over, surely you can rest a little?

How is Hope? I've heard nothing in the past few days.

[two weeks of constant Null attacks are wearing on everyone. she's taken breaks to go back to her apartment, taking fitful naps, and eating a little, though she's been so nervous she's had a hard time holding anything down]

...since I can't even use my ability right now, yeah. I need to. I know that.

[but where? they're not close to any of the remaining sanctuaries]

Alive, as far as I know. I've passed by the temple to clear out attacks but never stopped to catch up on details.

Since we're both in need of a rest, it would be foolish not to take one.

[are they closer to the clinic at the hot springs or to Delmar's bunker?]

But they're still trying to kill him, I take it?

[yes, yes they are. There you go, Marg, you get to check on the shop after all. Law looks around, needing to use his regular senses to figure out whether or not there are any Null in the way. Nothing special about it, sigh.]

Yeah. The gods are their real enemy, after all.

[that's good. she's been meaning to get there for the past several days. and Marg also looks around for more Null, but doesn't see any for now, thankfully]

And we're just acceptable deaths along the way.

Yeah.

[good, because he's so tired of fighting. He won't hate it if they have a few minutes of peace between here and the shop, starting off with his sword dragging along the ground behind him]

You're all right? Not injured, I mean.

[she's tired of fighting as well, though grateful that Ikaruga's lessons seem to have been paying off. she watches him drag his sword with some concern. he must be much more tired than he's been letting on]

Not badly. I have a few cuts and scratches here and there [gestures to her arms and legs] and had them checked out by the clinic. They've been bandaged. They may not even scar?

[she's vain enough to hope that they don't scar]

Ah. That's good.

[he'd give it a look if he needed to, but it sounds like she's smarter than most, getting herself properly tended. Meanwhile Law's the walking example of the physician heal thyself proverb over here]

Yes, I'm pleased. I haven't been going out much, but I've been able to dispatch the Null I've encountered. I just hope that at some point they realize that they're going to lose and retreat to where they came from.

[yeah, and she notices]

Are you sure you don't want to try for the Clinic?

I don't think that's likely. [grimly; he has nothing but a pessimist's assessment of the battle now, and just about everything else]

Don't you know? The clinic was destroyed a week ago. I'm fine, I don't need to go to one of the fallback positions.

But we can hope. [she has to hope. hope the Null will stop, hope that she'll see Matt again, otherwise she's going to collapse]

I know. We could still make it to one of the fallback positions.

[hot_mes]

[ironically, the man who's been defending Hope can't feel any right now. Good idea, bad idea?]

It's too far. When I say I can't use my ability right now, I mean it. I have nothing. If we get attacked, it won't end well.

[while she's been forcing herself along, trying to get through each day without giving in to despair. Sorrow's death hit her hard and she hasn't been able to fully shake its effect]

Oh. Oh, dear. That's terrible. Very well, we'll go to the shop. Then perhaps I can look you over, see if I can do anything for the surface wounds at least.

[well that would be irony, and it's not lost on Law - he huffs a small, humorless laugh under his breath. The rest of the way he's quiet, until they get to the familiar shop.]

Just a few minutes of rest. That's all I need. [lies, but it's all he can spare himself]

[so is she. she's trying to not dwell on her worries, but it's hard]

It looks as though you could use a great deal more than that.

[grumble mutter must not show weakness to other humans...]

I just need to recover my stamina so I can use my ability if we get attacked.

[he says as he wobbles into a wall. yeah he's not fooling anyone anymore]

You need a good night's sleep and a full meal. Unfortunately, I don't have any food at the shop, but you can at least get some sleep.

[she takes him by the arm and tries to steady him]

[Law recoils slightly at the touch - no one in the city has yet gotten close enough to touch him, aside from patients he's had to haul around. He was doing so well not letting anyone into his personal space, or so he thought.]

I said I'm fine! I just need to sit down for a bit.

[the irritation is nothing personal - he's far beyond having any control over himself at the moment and snaps out of sheer exhaustion.]

[personal space is a completely foreign concept to Marg, sorry.

[she's trying to not take it personally, but can't help it. just a little]

[he'll be contrite later when he realizes what he's said in his moments of frustration. Right now he just wants to be left to himself, but he still needs to make sure nothing happens to Marg. She's a good egg, she doesn't deserve his grumpface.

Once inside, he's going to find a corner to slump in and stay there for a bit, brooding. He doesn't want to get in her way, after all.]

[Marg inspects the clothing she'd been working on before the Null attacked, a dress for herself and for Dany, a scarf for Abigail, and a new suit for Matt. she wishes she'd gotten it finished and to him before all of this started. she clutches at it before carefully folding it and putting it inside a drawer.

she still has reserves of fabric from before, which is good. the Seven know she certainly can't expect Delight to provide her with cloth anymore. most of the damage is cosmetic, things knocked over and scattered. she starts to put things back in order, hoping that the Null won't come again]

[Yeah, he's aware of the loss of their fabric source. That's going to be terrible in time. For now, Law is actually pretty glad that Marg showed up and that her shop is okay. It's a nice little oasis in the middle of the chaos.

As she bustles about, he lifts his head, wondering if the rest of her life had ever given her the impression she'd ever be a warrior-seamstress striding around a sewing room girt with a sword.]

I wonder if they're not touching anything that came from Delight.

[wow, so not the thing to think about, let alone voice aloud, right now]

[she's planning on trying to get cloth from Love or Tranquility. surely one of the two will see the value in the service Margaery provides?

no, she wanted to be the queen. which she was for a while, but it didn't fulfil her the way she thought it should. the fact that she wasn't in love with her husband didn't help. honestly, if she could find Matt and be sure of his safety, she'd be. . . happy? as a warrior-seamstress]

Perhaps? Though, it's likely they tried finding me here first. This looks like the work of more than one Null.
