Intro Log: Welcome to Your New Home

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for December
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: December 10th-12th
Warnings: New folks, fire everywhere, and there are still killer robots on the loose

As far too many others have in the past, you wake up on the sandy ground of the colosseum, the stone ceiling of the cave stretching high overhead. But this is probably the first time this has happened to you - and even if it isn't, things are even more chaotic than usual right now. You've come at a weird time, friend.

The first thing you might see when you wake up is a salamander, or maybe a lot of salamanders. These amphibious creatures may be kind of cute, they're also incredibly flammable. Anything that brushes up against them has a very good chance of lighting on fire, so keep your distance, and make sure all your stuff keeps its distance too. Oh, and maybe keep them from crawling into the city to light that on fire, too. And in case that isn't enough warmth for you, you can also find a collection of different socks scattered around the arena. So that's... nice.

Of course, you've come at a remarkably bad time. A whole army of evil AI robot creatures recently attacked the city, and all you newcomers have arrived just as the attack is winding down. Does that mean you're not in too much danger? Of course not! There are still Null running around, and while they will ignore you if you ignore them, the second you attack them or deliberately get in their way they'll turn on you too. On top of that, the city itself has been devastated by the attack, with buildings destroyed and people killed. Welcome to Hadriel, let's hope no one tries to use you as a distraction while you're confused and frightened.

Once things calm down, the city's going to be on a different world - but you'll still have a life to live. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers December 10th-12th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Arya Stark | Game of Thrones

[personal profile] needlebearer 2017-12-10 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Arya blinks awake, pushing herself up from the ground and not bothering to brush the sand from her already grubby, tattered clothes. Staring around at the unfamiliar surroundings, her hand automatically goes to her belt to find Needle, remembering only when she's grabbing at thin air that it's long gone. Instead she takes hold of the knife she'd stolen from the Hound, bending down to slit the throat of a salamander - who knows when she'll get the chance to eat again? - only to jump back in alarm as her sleeve catches fire.

The phone is an odd shape and weight, and she notices it immediately, pulling it from the drawstring pouch in which the only other contents are the coin Jaqen had given her and an interesting shaped stone she'd picked up in the forest near the Riverlands and turning it over in her hands. She isn't sure what to make of it, or what the odd material it's made from is, and she bashes it against a wall a couple of times for good measure, seeming surprised when doing so accidentally activates it, and staring in wonder at the lights and colours on the LCD screen.

She begins to wander, making a mental note of her surroundings as she progresses, keeping her eyes and ears open to find out just what's going on in this half-destroyed city while trying to stay away from any signs of trouble.

Waking up in what appeared to be an actual place versus the oblivion of death was... odd, to be perfectly honest and not what she had expected in the slightest. Things seems to be real, alive, and stranger than where she'd been before all of this had happened, too. Lydia's slowly pushing herself up to stand, brushing herself off and frowning as she watches a salamander or two run past her, making sure to not touch anything alive around here out of instinct of all things being able to kill someone.

Hell, if she hadn't been certain that she was still a lich, she'd have been more frightened instead of confused. As it stood, she could still feel the cold grip of unlife on her and the fact she still didn't need to breathe. Interesting.

Without a moment's more hesitation she's moving for the exit of this place, changing her outfit quickly with her magic to appear darker grey with hints of deep purple and a black cloak on top of it to maybe keep her from attracting too much attention as she wandered. Everything around her being purposefully ignored if they don't seem to be humanoid.

"Hey, Barkspawn! Check this out!" A redheaded dwarven woman in black armor with two swords sheathed at her back, is holding a pair of socks with a grin. Her companion, a large war-hound sporting war paint, sniffs at the socks and wags his tail in approval. "I know, right? Now we can match."

Barkspawn's ears perk up as he hears someone approach and he responds with some friendly barking, trotting over as Aren follows. "Don't be rude, Barkspawn. No jumping, 'kay?" She shrugs as her eyes meet the human girl. "He's built like a brick wall, but he's a sweetheart. Don't worry, he won't knock you over."

The salamanders are the least of the city's perils at the moment, but the newcomers have at least one advantage: they're ignored by the dwindling but still dangerous metal monsters who still roam the streets.

The city's long-term residents often don't have that luxury. Not far from the river, Arya wanders near to one such unfortunate, in the last moments of a duel with a particularly spiky monster. When the swordsman finally puts the creature down, he turns around-

Only to spot Arya, and snap, "Morgoth's bloody balls, of all the things that could be working the Door's still-damn it." He catches himself impatiently and shakes his head.

"My apologies, my lady. I should not have shouted." Not at her, at any rate.

#1. Colosseum, arrival

[ The thing is, Will is already having trouble telling apart reality from the things in his head, already frequently opening his eyes and finding himself in what seems like a whole other dimension, so something like waking up somewhere unrecognisable is already bringing up the question of whether this is also in his head, like the doctors keep saying.

Will steps forward a little from where he's woken up, looking around. This is... different, definitely not Hawkins, not the school he was in seconds before. He holds the walkie talkie he's still clinging to tightly.

This isn't the Upside Down. It's different from his flashes there. It's not as cold. There's fear, that mess of confusing fear that comes from suddenly appearing somewhere you shouldn't be, but it's not an all consuming horror, not freezing terror. That- That feeling... that overpowering, dark evil that stared him down, that isn't here. He hasn't been here before.
]

Hello? Mike! [ Growing more worried by the second, Will starts really looking around now. He can't be alone here. Let his friends be here. Rather than call out again, he speaks into his walkie while he searches. ] Does anybody copy? Mike? You there? Lucas, Dustin? Please.

[ He doesn't hear back from his friends, but he does find lizards, which is almost funny considering he was actually looking for a lizard type creature several minutes ago. These though... Not the one he was looking for. Which believe it or not might be a good thing, right until Will spots one of them crawling over a sock and apparently setting it on fire.

Will backs up. The longer he's here, the more panicked he's beginning to get. He turns and almost runs to the exit, no doubt running right into somebody in the process.
]

#2. around town, any occupied house

[ Leaving the Colosseum doesn't help. Actually, it makes things worse. He's only been making his way through the town for a few minutes, calling out to his friends, when he spots one of them. A giant robot on four legs that looks like it belongs in one of his comics.

If he'd waited around, he might have realised that the robot wasn't actually going to do a thing to hurt him, but he doesn't wait. Will turns and runs for the nearest building almost as soon as he spots it.

What he doesn't really expect is for the building to be occupied by someone else.
]

S- Sorry! [ He stops dead in the doorway, awkwardly looking between the person in the room and the window. ] There was a- a giant, uh- Sorry.

A young man in his late teens dressed in an odd light-blue uniform floated a few yards above the floor of the colosseum, knees folded into a sitting position, looking down at the flaming lizard below him with calm confusion. He had got himself out of the reach of their spreading fires, but he didn't seem to know what to do next.

There were others here though, with him, fleeing the lizards as they scurried around, but as he searched their faces he didn't recognize a single one. None of his teammates, none of the normal people he knew... none of them even looked like his usual enemies, although he was not certain enough of that to rush to assist anyone.

His only guess was that he was... kidnapped, he guessed? But even then, this situation made absolutely no sense from the perspective of any would-be kidnapper. They hadn't bound him or injured him and they hadn't stolen anything either - he still had his wallet and his watch and some spare change in his pocket. But he had no memory of how he got here - so it had to be a kidnapping, right...?

The young man continued to watch the others around him deal with the salamanders, never bothering to help, until he eventually, idly fished his phone from his pocket. After staring into it with a furrowed brow for a few minutes, he looked up and finally showed some interest in who else was here with him.

Leaning forward, he floated over to the nearest person and looked down at them hesitantly. His hair and clothes rustled gently, as if he were facing a strong breeze blowing up from the floor. If the person were struggling with a salamander, he'd still offer no help.

"Uh... excuse me?" he muttered awkwardly. "You got kidnapped too right?"

[personal profile] ex_matricide319 2017-12-11 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Kiran is also meandering near the exit, hesitant to leave the colosseum but keenly aware that there is no reason for him to stay here. He just has no idea what he's supposed to do or where he's supposed to go once he gets out there, and he's not exactly chomping at the bit to explore.

He'd have ignored the white-haired woman entirely if he hadn't seen her spontaneously change her clothes - and sense the magic that came off her when she did.

"Hey!" he calls out as she's about to pass him by. But once he's said it, he's not really sure what to say next. Going by the seat of his pants here. "Um... do you know where we are?" Maybe she's going somewhere specifically and that's why she's running?

[during Arya's wanderings, she'll happen across a young woman wearing a torn and tattered remains of a dress (the one on the right). Her hair is a mess and she has visible bandages in some of the gaps on the dress, but she's fighting a stray Null using a sword and a very non-Westerosi style of swordplay.

[Margaery has gone home to rest and recover after her latest ordeals with the Null. she's sitting at her kitchen table, eating the last of a can of peaches when a young man bursts into her home, startling her]

It's fine, just hurry in and close the door before it sees me!

[He runs into someone alright, but at least it's someone just as confused as he is?]

Whoa! Kid, watch where you're going. [it's a mostly toothless scolding as he looks down at him in concern. How old is he? Twelve?? And he looks pretty terrified, too.]

Just relax, okay? Running out there in a panic doesn't sound any safer than staying in here.

He had to check. You know, just to make sure. There's no way, if the gods-slash-turboliches had any actual say in what the Door did, anyone would come through this month. But one of the first things he learned from Delight was that they don't, which means it'll probably be business as usual back at the coliseum.

Which means people will be getting launched face first into the fucking cage match of the century. Which means if Lucretia or Carey come back, if Davenport or Killian or Noelle or, hell, if he really called it and Juicy Wizard is lying face-down in the dirt arena, surrounded by monsters and Null and whatever else, they'll need more help than ever.

He's pretty banged up already before he charges in and instantly steps on a salamander, jerking away and hopping up and down on one foot, his freshly burnt one stinging instantly.

"Ow! Fffffuck, first laser robots, now fire-lizards!" Since they'll probably be resistant to burning swords, he switches out the Sword of Doom for his trusty ol' Railsplitter and shield combo. Then, he quickly whispers to his shield, "Did I ever tell you about the time I killed and ate a full kabob of salamanders? You don't have to cook them, they come pre-heated!"

The shield loves the pun, I guess, 'cause the stupid joke just gets engraved magically onto the mirrored surface.

"Ha! Just try and give me hotfoot now!" Before he can launch himself into battle, however, he notices a certain cloaked someone trying to get the hell out of Dodge. As backup, he brings Railsplitter down on a lizard that looks like it's trying to head in her direction.

"Hey!!! You got the right idea! I got you covered, lady!"

If he had realized who it was yet, this would be going very differently.

[Laura is one of the few people left who is being ignored. she's gone out of her way to not annoy the Null and so far she's succeeded. she's not about to let this person mess that up, even if she apparently has magic (neat trick with the outfit switch) and could theoretically defend herself]

Stay quiet. Don't annoy them and they won't try to kill you.

[ Hey, Kokichi is totally in the same boat here, having also just arrived and immediately run into the spooky killer robots and all, but Will barging suddenly into his hiding place scares the crap out of him. Worse than the robots did. He fumbles a second as he attempts not to drop his phone out of sheer surprise, even. But since Will doesn't look that old or threatening, he smoothly transitions into pretending he didn't just freak out.

Importantly, Will might've noticed a little resistance as he rushed in and the very distinct bang of knocking something over as he pushed open the door. Yes, he attempted to hold the door shut by jamming a chair under it, but obviously it did not work out the way he wanted it to as it is not quite the right height. He's never actually done it before, just seen it in movies and stuff. ]

... You better be sorry!! This is my private property and you are totally trespassing! I don't care if you saw a swarm of giant hornets. Look, you even damaged my favorite chair. [ He gestures enthusiastically. It's like, scuffed from hitting the ground. No big deal. ] Who's gonna replace that, huh?! You got money to replace it? 'Cause I sure don't! Not in this economy!

Curufin has come to the Colosseum as he sometimes does during the days when newcomers appear. He was hoping that the Door was taking a break during the Null invasion, but no such luck.

He spots the young woman with the knife in one hand and a Hadriel phone in the other. She smacks it against a wall and then stares at the screen.

He calls out some cautionary advice. "Hey, don't bash that phone so hard! They're made to be durable, but if you break it, it'll be hard to replace!"

All of this is pretty alarming and while inwardly very concerned about having been kidnapped a second time, outwardly, Kokichi only seems interested in messing around with the salamanders. He has one a bit off from the rest and is playing with what was once a whole skeletal arm, except by now it's burnt up to the wrist because he insists on slapping the salamander with it. Like most things, bone smells awful when it burns.

It's hard to miss someone literally floating around overhead, but nonetheless when approached, Kokichi plays it cool. It's no weirder than salamanders that catch stuff on fire. Right? Even if he has no intention of letting it go without comment, he focuses on what he's actually saying for now. He drops the arm as though in shock, eyes going wide.

"Huh? Kidnapped?! W-what do you mean? You're really not here for the lizard petting zoo like the rest of us?"

( he's absolutely done his fair share of waking up in strange places, but he can safely assure anyone concerned ( not … that anyone would be ) that he's never woken up in a place like this, flat on his back on a sandy floor and glaring up at a cracked ceiling that makes the place look like it could use some work. ( it's the colosseum, dbag, of course it's going to look like it could use some work. ) but he doesn't have a headache and he doesn't have a terrible case of cottonmouth, so he's pretty sure this isn't the work of passing out shitfaced. whatever he can deal with this.

he rolls to his feet, taking brief notice of the socks lying about ( fucking weird ) and a bit less brief notice of the creatures slinking about ( still fucking weird ) and he really has no intention of paying them any mind until a couple of steps in one direction finds him tripping over one … and immediately cursing up a storm as his pantleg catches fire.
) What the f— oh, you asshole! ( welp. that'll be one less salamander with the help of a nice swing from rebellion. you're welcome, murdercave. one less to make it into the ruined city!

but we must continue. because if he trips over another one of these things he's going to end up getting so damned irritated that he'll stay and do a bit of batting practice, and he doesn't exactly carry around a bat for such things. nope —

outside the colosseum he begins to wander, and the city is a mess; of course he has zero fucking clue what's going on or what happened before he'd popped up here, and maybe he should think to find out, just so he knows what to expect during his stay — but it just so happens that there isn't really anyone around to ask outright, so he just. shrugs to himself and keeps right on wandering.

he hasn't run into any robots yet, which means at the very least he's stayed disengaged from any measure of fighting, but. that might end up changing. who knows with this one.

Arrival

[When she wakes up in the dusty cave floor, Padmé looks around, feeling completely out of sorts. While not a Jedi, she's been around them long enough to think that there's a good chance that she'd return to the mysterious Force after her death. This, however, is nothing what she's imagined. She's not sure what this is, but it's not Naboo, Coruscant, Mustafar or even the medical facility on Polis Mossa.

And, honestly, she hadn't expected to wake up after attempting to plead with Obi-Wan about Anakin. So, when she spots the strange lizards, she's not stupid enough to touch them. If anything, she pulls the thin medical gown closer and tries to skirt around the creature. Years of fighting have taught her to not to call out unless she's absolutely sure that she's near allies. And she's not, so she's quiet.

She doesn't stop moving until she's out into an open area and sees the buildings on fire and people panicking. A hand raises slowly to her mouth to keep the gasp she wants to make in. And then, because old habits die hard, and she's not sure that anything is even real right now, she attempts to pull herself together by reaching out to the nearest person and stopping them from moving away.]

What's going on here?

Settling In

[After finding out the situation, she spends a great deal of time helping out others. It's the only thing that makes sense in a time when nothing else does. Except, she doesn't really have a place to stay or money or anything like that. They're things she's never had to think about before, not when her family was so influential on Naboo and then she was a public servant.

So, now, shes wandering the streets, a strange communication device in her hand. Occasionally, she stops to sit and read a bit of information before she starts again. However, she still can't shake the feeling that everything is surreal. Or stop looking around to make sure that no one is following her, despite the fact that she looks like some crazy woman in a nightgown even now.]

He had been on alert, knowing a new batch of arrivals was coming. He saw that she was helping others, doing what she could, and that was nice. It just didn't change the fact that the last few doors since the kid has arrived has brought his friends through. With Mike and Ben remaining Eddie understands it's just a matter of time and so he goes to quietly wait in the area, leaving his other friends back at the apartment in order to simply watch and see.

There's a lizard nearby, seemingly non-agressive as Eddie takes a seat on a rock and waits. It's content enough to watch him in return and the fact that it's letting off a warm glow is missed as the teenager's focus is on the new guys. This seems fine; somewhat low key compared to previous doors, though the socks are, as usual, a mystery. Who in their right mind would wear one of those? The new guy gets a glance or two and it's only when the other's pants leg goes up that Eddie shifts away from the basking salamander nearby. God damn, nothing in this place is ever normal.]
