Intro Log: Rock This City

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for January
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: January 10th-14th
Warnings: New folks, rockin' dudes made of rock, and collectible friends!

This time, it's different.

There's no cave, no stone walls looming up around you and overhead, no stifling air or artificial light- not that you'd appreciate it, seeing as to how you've probably never been here before. And still, when you land facefirst on the dirt ground of the colosseum, you may not quite appreciate all the improvements and steps we've had to take to get here- after all, you're still surrounded by strangers in a crumbling city on an alien planet in the middle of nowhere.

Oh, and you're being attacked by Earth Elementals. These creatures are tall, between seven to ten feet, and made of solid rock, capable of punching through all the squishy bits of you- and for whatever reason, they definitely want to start punching. They're incredibly strong and, seeing as to how they're enchanted alive and have no internal organs, they're very difficult to kill.

But don't let that scare you off. For all the collectors in you, you can also find a very special array of beanie babies all scattered at the ground at your feet. Do you know that some of these things will be worth a lot of money someday? Better find the rarest one and stockpile it while you can! You might run into the rainbow crab, the platypus, or the sought-after bald eagle, or many more! Be sure to never take the tag off and never ever let anyone play with them so they don't lose value.

Once you've got your kids' college fund squared away, it's time to start exploring! You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

Sure, I'll meet him.

[evocation]

Cool.

[She takes his hand again and starts to lead the way towards her apartment.]

Who were you fighting, anyway?

[hardwearing]

[ She won't like the answer to that, so Wash hedges, squeezing her hand. ]

Does it matter?

[evocation]

I guess not, but you're being cagey.

[hardwearing]

I got to try using a sword?

[evocation]

See what I mean? Cagey.

[hardwearing]

I took every offer I got, that's all. It's not a big deal.

[evocation]

[She's not sure she buys that, but she doesn't feel like pushing, so as they reach the spire and start up the stairs, she just shrugs.]

Okay. Do you even have swords in space?

[hardwearing]

Not really. The Sangheili have energy swords and Tucker wound up with one of those, but it's locked to him so I've never gotten to try it.

...I wasn't very good with an actual sword.

[evocation]

Maybe you'd be better with magic.

[hardwearing]

I mean, everything takes practice. If they're willing to keep sparring with me I'm sure I'll get better at it.

[ Magic, though... she can teach him now that hers is back. ]

You think? I'd like to try it.

[evocation]

[She shoots him a grin, unlocking the door.]

Yeah, you'll be awesome at it.

[And hopefully he's ready for a dog, because as soon as Kyna opens the door, the one she promised rushes out, tail wagging, and tries to shove his nose into Wash's free hand. He's pretty huge and has an incredibly dopey smile.]

Um, that's Lando.

[hardwearing]

[ Wash reels back at first -- even with his limited experience with animals he can tell this guy's not a threat, but he's still. Very insistent. ]

Whoa, calm down... Kyna, he's bigger than you.

[evocation]

Yeah, I know. Lando, sit.

[Lando does as he's told, though it's less "sitting" and more letting his back end plop to the floor. He's still staring up at Wash adoringly.]

My brother is taller than me.

[hardwearing]

[ Wash takes the reprieve to set down his helmet, but as much as he'd like to get the rest of his armor off and cling to Kyna for awhile he can't ignore that face. So Lando is getting petted now. ]

Hey, buddy. You're gonna be seeing a lot of me, that okay?

[ Wait. ]

...has he ever met a cat before?

[evocation]

Yeah, Nico used to have one. He'll be fine.

[Lando, meanwhile, is thump-thumping his tail against the floor, and ignores Kyna as she heads inside. He's going to be glued to Wash as long as the petting continues.]

[hardwearing]

You sure? She's tiny.

[ And this dog doesn't seem to realize he's gigantic. Wash keeps up the petting a few moments longer before straightening up and gesturing for Lando to follow Kyna and get back inside. ]

[evocation]

[Lando heads inside and Kyna leans over to plant a kiss on his head.]

Go lay down.

[And, though he shoots another look at Wash and wags his tail hopefully, he does. Kyna straightens up and smiles at Wash.]

He was really gentle with Nico's cat, but we can keep them separated if you want.

[hardwearing]

We can introduce them and see what happens.

[ Now that he's not actively petting the dog he can get his armor off... it winds up on her kitchen table and then he's heading over to Kyna, pulling her in against him. ]

[evocation]

[She sighs, leaning against him and closing her eyes. It's just what she needs to dispel the last of her anxiety.]

Are you okay?

[hardwearing]

I'll get there.

[ He just needs to let things settle a bit in his head. ]

Catch me up on your life?

[evocation]

[She hums thoughtfully, rubbing circles against his back with one hand.]

Um... Well, we quit Kairos and started our own thing.

[hardwearing]

Good.

[ He didn't like the sound of Panna as their boss, tbh. ]

You've been finding work on your own?

[evocation]

Yeah. It sucked at first, but it's been easier lately. And now we can actually take jobs that aren't sketchy.

[hardwearing]

Any interesting ones?

[ He's totally giving her a chance to brag here, in addition to being legitimately curious what kind of things she's working on now. ]
