Event Log: The Hope of a Child

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the The Hope of a Child event
Where: All over the city!
When: January 23rd-Feb 1st
Warnings: Youths

By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

► This log covers January 23rd-Feb 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you trip over a kid and die, please let us know here.

After a while, Serah begins to figure out what's going on. That children are appearing who appear to be residents of this place, only... de-aged. Like they're in their own personal time distortions.

She can't figure out how to fix it, though. Hadriel doesn't have time labyrinths for her to go and fix anything. Instead, the best she can do is try to take care of them, to assume this is one of those events of the gods that she's heard about and let it pass. It's not the ideal solution when you're used to ferreting out paradoxes and correcting time, but what else can she do for now?

Which is why Serah's out when it's getting this chilly, wandering the city just in case any children appear and need help. Or corralling. (Probably the latter, honestly.) It's the young, non-human child who tentatively moves towards her that catches her attention this evening, wandering through the streets looking more scared than anything. While years of living on Pulse and all her time travelling with Noel has involved strange creatures often attacking, this one... he's so young, and his expression reminds her more of Snow (the Cat) when she finds herself brought near a bath.

"Hi," she starts, voice quiet. "Are you lost?"
glacius: (Huhwha?)

ye!

While fairly impassive when grown, this younger version of Glacius actually gives a small start when this... person addresses him, taking a little step back before managing to lock himself in place. He hadn't been expecting one of them to turn to him, and now he's suddenly wondering if he's made a mistake, if he should turn around and run before this outsider tries to hurt him...

But where would he run to? He has no idea where he is, and he hasn't seen even a single one of his people here. He has to try and be brave, and so he peers up (way up) at the woman. Another pink-skin, like the man he met earlier, and she doesn't seem to be angry or sly. Perhaps he can trust her.

So he gives a very tentative nod, not quite able to muster up more just yet. Everything about this situation feels very uncertain and he's still not sure if he should be ready to bolt at a moment's notice, but he wants badly for this to be fixed and for everything to go back to normal, so he's willing to stick around should someone seem interested in helping him.

this is so pure

Okay. That's something. Whatever he is, he seems shy. And maybe he can't talk. Or he doesn't want to. She doesn't know. Mog could talk, but Mog was extraordinary. A gift from Lightning, from Valhalla. It shouldn't be too surprising that he could talk with them.

Now, how does she explain this city to this child?

"This isn't your home, is it?" Of course it isn't, but maybe it's easier to hear the news when it's phrased like a question. "It isn't mine. I woke up here, too."

Maybe that's enough to see if he does know how to talk?
glacius: (nyoro~n)

;n; they're learning.

To her first question, the young Glacius just shakes his head quickly, torn between wanting to look around and being too unnerved by his odd surroundings to actually do so. So he instead keeps his focus on the being before him-- she's unfamiliar too, but at least not actively intimidating. He isn't sure if he should talk to her, but if she's lost like he is, well... it makes him feel a little better to know there's someone else who understands.

"Where... is here?" He finally manages, trying his damnedest to keep the squeak of his voice. He doesn't know if she knows-- or if he wants to know the answer. But ignoring her doesn't seem right, either.

Oh, good. He can talk. That brightens the expression on Serah's face before she casts a glance down the streets, trying to figure out just where in the city they are. A couple of weeks has helped her find a home, and even explore most of the city, but she's still shaky on the exact locations. Were they close to the Colosseum, or not...?

"It's called Hadriel." She pauses for a moment to let that sink in. Before she arrived here, she didn't know this place even existed, and it seems like a lot of the children - or younger forms of the people here - don't have their memories of ending up here.

Best to take it slow.
glacius: (Not entirely sure about this.)

[personal profile] glacius 2018-02-07 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Glacius pauses as if considering the answer, though in truth it does nothing for him-- he hasn't heard the name before, so he still has no idea where he is. All he knows is that it is very, very different from his homeworld, and therefore likely dangerous.

"Where is the ice? The snow? The land looks... sick," the little alien frets, having never seen a world that wasn't blanketed in white. All this bare earth is awfully alarming, just like the rest of his situation.

Oh, so his appearance is

That makes sense, she supposes. But that can wait.

"This is a desert. It's too hot for snow most of the time." Although, right now, in the dark, it's freezing cold. Which probably suits him just fine. It's just a shame Serah hasn't seen anyone who looks similar to this child before today. She could have found him some familiar faces.

"I guess this is the first time you've seen anything like this, huh?"
glacius: that might alarm you. (Here comes a thought)

[personal profile] glacius 2018-02-14 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"De-sert," the young alien repeats the word carefully, followed by a quick shake of his head. "No, never. It's awful. I don't know how anything can stand this." Then, a quick moment of realization followed by panic—"I don't know how I'm going to stand this, if there's no snow! And heat... heat is bad. I—I have to find my way back to that room. There was a nice human there, and he made ice and snow!"

Glacius starts looking around, rapidly scanning his surroundings... but given that this is his first time outside he and Carlisle's shared apartment, nothing looks familiar. He stamps in place a little with nervous energy, as if suddenly worried about getting back to safety before the heat of this strange land flares again.

By being better adjusted than an alien made out of ice, mostly. But, you're in luck, Glacius. Because there's more than one human who can make ice here. Serah holds up her hands.

"Whoa- It's okay." This... should work on her surroundings too, right? She's never really tried to use her magic on anything but enemies before. But Serah concentrates on a spot of ground close to the child, but still far enough away that she won't hit him, and builds up her magic, letting a small blizzard coat the area. "... It worked."

Thank goodness.

"Does it help?"
glacius: (Happy thoughts.)

[personal profile] glacius 2018-02-21 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
A small storm of snow and ice whips up just a few feet away from him, and the alien finds himself absolutely transfixed... but only for a moment. Then he immediately bolts into it with a delighted cheep before the winds have even died down again; Serah might be better adjusted for this sort of heat, but when it comes to weathering extreme cold and ice storms, even the young of Glacius' species can't be beat.

"Yes!" the little alien remembers to respond after a moment of sitting down and sticking his hands in the snow excitedly. "I didn't know any outsiders could manipulate ice and snow like my people can. Amazing! Thank you!"

Her fist comes to her lips to stifle the giggle that bubbles up when the child dashes into the small blizzard that quickly dissipates into a cool patch of ice and snow. That's adorable, and Serah's heart is warm with the fact that her magic does something other than kill monsters.

"I just started to learn a while ago," she replies, crouching down just outside of the frosty ground, "but my friend, Noel, he can make an even bigger blizzard." He was much better than her at ice magic.

Serah hums and tilts her head curiously. "What are your people like?"
