By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

Yes I'm real and that really hurt. Why are you under there?

[Will is good and doesn't stab her. Because stabbing regular, real people is really, really bad.]

Monsters?

[Like they wouldn't find him under the desk?]

I'm sorry I hurt you.

[She stops to think about that for a minute but then nods and climbs under there with him.]

That's a good idea. Monsters aren't under desks. [Usually.]

[Will smiles a little as she crawls under the desk with him.]

No. But they could be looking. Did you see any out there?

[Smiling is much better than stabbing, although she doesn't smile back, she just keeps looking out for monsters.]

No, but they don' always look like it.

That's why I stabbed you. Just in case.

You don't smile enough. Or are you upset that I hurt you?

[Will mused. Who doesn't like to smile?]

I don't smile when there's monsters. [Or...ever, but he doesn't have to know that.]

You shouldn't stab people.

I didn't know you were a person! You could have been anything.

[She was really super serious.... what was up with this girl?]

Why? Does smiling attract monsters? Or would you rather just not have fun?

I have fun! [Sometimes.] Just not when there's monsters!

And when is that? Like never?

[he paused, wanting to look around the corner to see if there was anything but not quite brave enough. It was safe down here.]

I'm Will. What's your name?

When there aren't monsters!

[DON'T MAKE HER POUT.]

I'm Annabeth. I ran away.

You ran away? Isn't that kind of dangerous?

[She looks kind of young too. Kind of too young to not be smiling.]

I don't care. They didn't want me anyway.

Oh. I'm sorry.

[Why did people do that? Why have kids if you weren't going to actually take care of them? It pissed him off, and totally wasn't fair.]

It's fine. Luke found me.

[Pause]

I don't know where he went. He can take you too.

Who's Luke? I don't need anyone, I need to find my satyr. We were on our way somewhere. I guess I'm not going there anymore though....

Maybe we can stick together? Until we find everyone?

Luke is my friend. He sees the monsters too. Him and Thalia.

Yeah we should do that. It's better with more people.
