Event Log: The Hope of a Child

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the The Hope of a Child event
Where: All over the city!
When: January 23rd-Feb 1st
Warnings: Youths

By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

► This log covers January 23rd-Feb 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you trip over a kid and die, please let us know here.

"We are brought here by the rulers of this place." Maglor explains, and sighs softly.

"I'm sorry youngling - there is no way back unless they let us go. But for the nonce, you are relatively safe here, so long as you do not leave the city bounds."
glacius: (Reservations.)

"But I want to go home," Glacius protests, his voice choking up as he puts his little foot down. Then, remembering lectures about how any sort of petulance is unbecoming, he tries to find some semblance of better composure. It isn't easy when so much is being slung at him at once.

"Why did they take me? Why don't they let us go? Why are they being so mean?" And more importantly, how did they get him when he was safe and secure back on his homeworld? A new, sudden pang of worry hits him, one he immediately gives voice to. "They didn't hurt my parents, did they?"

"Oh little one." Maglor says sadly. "I know. I'm sorry. They took us from our homes because they need emotions to live, and there are too few of them now to generate enough. I'm sure your parents are fine though. We think that when we are finally sent home, that we go back to when we left, so they won't have time to be worried, hopefully."
glacius: and hope there's better things ahead. (You have to push through)

Some of that will take Glacius a bit more time to puzzle out—emotions to live? How does that even work?—but the latter sentiment strikes home, at least.

"So they... won't even recognize that I am gone?" That sounds good, but wait—now a new worry has popped up. "B-but then... how will they know to look for me?!"

"Ssh ssh." Maglor yields to the instinct that says, reach out, the young one is hurting, brushing a gentle hand across Glacius arm, not daring anything further.

"You'll be gone like the blink of an eye, little one, back before you or they know it."

He doesn't know if it's true, but for Glacius, he believes it, pours that belief into his voice.
glacius: Your shot glasses are so tiny. (How curious.)

The young Glacius seems highly unsure about the hand reaching for him—his people are raised with a healthy wariness of outsiders, after all—but so far Maglor hasn't been acting in a way that suggests he might have intent to harm. So the little alien doesn't skitter back away from the contact, and he is... admittedly glad for it. Comfort is something that's been on short supply ever since he woke up here, and he'll take what he can get, even if from unfamiliar sources.

"... This doesn't make much sense to me," the alien admits, but he has quieted somewhat. "So what do I do in the mean time? Is there anything I need to do to be sure I get back?"

Maglor leaves the hand there, gentle pressure without demanding more.

"Rest. Look after yourself. The door home will open as it will, when it will." Maglor explains. "We don't have any control of it. So the best thing you can do is make sure that you are well rested and ready when it does."

which... is only a little bit of a lie, but one Maglor hopes won't prove false, for it seems best to him to make sure this youngling is cared for, until this strange time ends.
