Warnings: Youths
By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.
And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!
Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...► This log covers January 23rd-Feb 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!

Drake has... a vague idea of what's going on. He thinks. Ha's run into a few kids at this point that have turned out to be people already in the city, so even though he'd left Ephemera asleep in the apartment this morning... well. They lock the door and even if he'd forgotten Ephemera would have woken up at the sound of someone messing with his armor. So this must just be him. It's the only explanation how a kid could get their hands on a piece of it, and this little guy's coloring is right. Drake isn't quite close enough to see his features.
He strolls closer, trying to seem as casual as possible, thumbs hooked in his belt loops. He's armed, sure, but projects harmlessness as much as he can. His voice is light and friendly. ]
Hey, what've you got there?
no subject
Nooothing!
no subject
Reeeeeeally? 'Cuz a friend of mine's got flamethrowers just like that. He showed me how to use 'em.... looks like your trigger control needs some work.
no subject
I didn't break 'em or anything.
no subject
They're pretty durable. But can be hard to control, especially since it's not really your size. C'mere, I'll show you.
no subject
Why're you showing me?
no subject
[ Drake puts the gauntlet on his own arm and goes through the proper hand and wrist positions to activate the igniter before shooting out fuel. ]
Go on, copy me.
no subject
So he shifts his weight and copies Drake. He still overextends a bit.]
no subject
[ He triggers the fuel release slowly, his jet of flame much more controlled than Terrence's attempts had been. ]
no subject
Okay. Don't lock your arm. He tries again, biting his lip. Tension in the wrist.]
Like that?
no subject
Yup, that looks better. You ready to try the real thing again?
[ Of course he is. Let's go. ]
How'd you know there was a flamethrower in the gauntlet to steal it, anyway? That's not standard.
no subject
That's awesome.
[He bounces up in the air, grinning.]
It's modified, you can see it on the seams. [He indicates the gauntlet vaguely.] Lotsa mercs modify their stuff. And then you can take it when they're drunk! But only the drunk ones, or they get really mad and catch me.
[Which isn't fun.]
I'm really fast.
no subject
You steal from drunk mercenaries?
no subject
Uh. Noooo?
[He eyes the surroundings, wondering if he should make a break for it.]
no subject
Don't worry, I'm not turning you in. We'll just put it back before he notices. [ Or something. Drake's not certain how this event is happening, but figures it'll work out. ] You've got balls, I'll give you that. What happens when they do catch you?
no subject
Nothing. Or smack me into a wall. But I'm fast and they're stupid.
[Wait.]
Nooooot that your friend's stupid! Nope. Nu-uh.
no subject
Nice save, kid.
[ He takes the gauntlet back, grinning. And he already knows the answer to his next question, but this is just for appearances. ]
What's your name, anyway?
no subject
Terrence. Not Terry. I hate that.
[Someone is paying attention to him! This is a good day.]
no subject
[ He offers a hand to shake. ]
I'm Drake.
no subject
[Terrence hadn't thought about that. He just knows that Terry is wrong somehow and Terrence is a mouthful, but it fits better. Terry is what the adults call him when they crouch down on and try to make themselves small to look him in the eye. He hates that almost as much as the when the tunnel dogs catch up with him.
But he likes this man, Drake, and shakes his hand with a grin.]
Hi, Drake. Why're you being nice to me?
no subject
Mean's not my style. And I wanted this back eventually. Besides, you weren't hurting anybody with it.
no subject
[Terrence bounces up on his heels. It's hard to hold still for too long.]
It went vwhooosh and then there was fire. Napalm? Napalm! So cool.
[So very bright.]
no subject
[ He tilts his head curiously. ]
Is this usually the kinda thing you do for fun?
no subject
Uh huh. I get bored.
