Event Log: The Hope of a Child

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the The Hope of a Child event
Where: All over the city!
When: January 23rd-Feb 1st
Warnings: Youths

By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

► This log covers January 23rd-Feb 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you trip over a kid and die, please let us know here.

[ Oh, for fuck's sake.

Drake has... a vague idea of what's going on. He thinks. Ha's run into a few kids at this point that have turned out to be people already in the city, so even though he'd left Ephemera asleep in the apartment this morning... well. They lock the door and even if he'd forgotten Ephemera would have woken up at the sound of someone messing with his armor. So this must just be him. It's the only explanation how a kid could get their hands on a piece of it, and this little guy's coloring is right. Drake isn't quite close enough to see his features.

He strolls closer, trying to seem as casual as possible, thumbs hooked in his belt loops. He's armed, sure, but projects harmlessness as much as he can. His voice is light and friendly. ]

Hey, what've you got there?

[Terrence spins, shoving his hands behind his back instinctively. The flame thrower is hot and he singes his hand a bit, but he grins wide and doesn't let it show. The adult who shows up is big and tall, not one of the regular patrol guards or maintenance workers who usually yells at him. Terrence isn't too worried. He can probably run for it if he needs to. He's plenty fast.]

Nooothing!

[ Getting up close, he can see now... yeah, it's almost certainly Ephemera. That little glint in his eyes, the way he shows his teeth when he smiles. This is weird. This is so fucking weird. ]

Reeeeeeally? 'Cuz a friend of mine's got flamethrowers just like that. He showed me how to use 'em.... looks like your trigger control needs some work.
requiemshark: (007)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2018-01-28 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Uh oh. Ephemera blinks. The soldier he'd taken them from had been fast asleep. And apparently this guy's friend.]

I didn't break 'em or anything.

[personal profile] braveoff 2018-01-28 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
[ Don't worry, kiddo, you're not in trouble. Honestly, Drake's mostly just glad little!Ephemera didn't set it off in his own face. ]

They're pretty durable. But can be hard to control, especially since it's not really your size. C'mere, I'll show you.

[personal profile] requiemshark 2018-01-28 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Terrence holds the gauntlet out warily. Adults don't pay attention to him. Or if they do, they yell and throw things.]

Why're you showing me?
braveoff: <user name="wonjae">; commissioned (3)

[personal profile] braveoff 2018-01-28 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Because you're interested? And if you're gonna be using it, I don't want you to get hurt, or hurt somebody else... or break it. My friend would be real pissed if you broke it.

[ Drake puts the gauntlet on his own arm and goes through the proper hand and wrist positions to activate the igniter before shooting out fuel. ]

Go on, copy me.
requiemshark: (006)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2018-01-28 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Terrence shrugs. He's not in the habit of overthinking stuff. And if someone's gonna show him how to use an awesome flame thrower, he's not gonna say no.

So he shifts his weight and copies Drake. He still overextends a bit.]

Don't lock your arm like that, or the kick will make your aim unpredictable. Keep the tension in your wrist instead, then roll your fist down. Watch.

[ He triggers the fuel release slowly, his jet of flame much more controlled than Terrence's attempts had been. ]
requiemshark: (035)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2018-01-28 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, that's so pretty. Fire is so cool. Terrence watches with rapt attention, eyes wide.

Okay. Don't lock your arm. He tries again, biting his lip. Tension in the wrist.]

Like that?

[personal profile] braveoff 2018-02-01 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
[ Drake relaxes his hand and the flame shuts off again, nice and smooth. The kid's focused now, gotta give him that. ]

Yup, that looks better. You ready to try the real thing again?

[ Of course he is. Let's go. ]

How'd you know there was a flamethrower in the gauntlet to steal it, anyway? That's not standard.
requiemshark: (008)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2018-02-01 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Terrence doesn't wait any longer, activating a blast and then cackling as the fire spits. He's nearly vibrating with energy. This is so much fun! And there's someone paying attention to him, which is cool too. Terrence isn't used to that. But he thinks he might like it.]

That's awesome.

[He bounces up in the air, grinning.]

It's modified, you can see it on the seams. [He indicates the gauntlet vaguely.] Lotsa mercs modify their stuff. And then you can take it when they're drunk! But only the drunk ones, or they get really mad and catch me.

[Which isn't fun.]

I'm really fast.

[personal profile] braveoff 2018-02-01 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
[ Hold up. Drake knew Ephemera did some dumb ass dangerous shit as a kid but he never mentioned anything that level. ]

You steal from drunk mercenaries?
requiemshark: (007)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2018-02-01 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Uh oh. It occurs to Terrence then that this guy recognized the gauntlet and knew how to use it, and probably knows the guy he took it from.]

Uh. Noooo?

[He eyes the surroundings, wondering if he should make a break for it.]
braveoff: <user name="wonjae">; commissioned (11)

[personal profile] braveoff 2018-02-01 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
[ Whoops. Don't bolt, kid. Drake adjusts his tone back to something lighter. ]

Don't worry, I'm not turning you in. We'll just put it back before he notices. [ Or something. Drake's not certain how this event is happening, but figures it'll work out. ] You've got balls, I'll give you that. What happens when they do catch you?
requiemshark: (005)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2018-02-01 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Terrence eyes the man, but doesn't make a run for it. Not yet. He offers the gauntlet back. Seems like safer option.]

Nothing. Or smack me into a wall. But I'm fast and they're stupid.

[Wait.]

Nooooot that your friend's stupid! Nope. Nu-uh.
braveoff: <user name="wonjae">; commissioned (22)

[personal profile] braveoff 2018-02-01 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
[ Hah. ]

Nice save, kid.

[ He takes the gauntlet back, grinning. And he already knows the answer to his next question, but this is just for appearances. ]

What's your name, anyway?
requiemshark: (012)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2018-02-01 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Crisis averted! He grins.]

Terrence. Not Terry. I hate that.

[Someone is paying attention to him! This is a good day.]
braveoff: <user name="wonjae">; commissioned (8)

[personal profile] braveoff 2018-02-01 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. It's not much of a nickname, anyway, they're both two syllables.

[ He offers a hand to shake. ]

I'm Drake.
requiemshark: (012)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2018-02-01 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Two--? Oh. Uh huh.

[Terrence hadn't thought about that. He just knows that Terry is wrong somehow and Terrence is a mouthful, but it fits better. Terry is what the adults call him when they crouch down on and try to make themselves small to look him in the eye. He hates that almost as much as the when the tunnel dogs catch up with him.

But he likes this man, Drake, and shakes his hand with a grin.]

Hi, Drake. Why're you being nice to me?
braveoff: <user name="wonjae">; commissioned (10)

[personal profile] braveoff 2018-02-01 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ Drake will call him whatever he wants to be called, honestly. He lets his hand drop, holding up the piece of armor with the other. ]

Mean's not my style. And I wanted this back eventually. Besides, you weren't hurting anybody with it.
requiemshark: (013)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2018-02-01 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I wanted to see what it'd do.

[Terrence bounces up on his heels. It's hard to hold still for too long.]

It went vwhooosh and then there was fire. Napalm? Napalm! So cool.

[So very bright.]
braveoff: <user name="wonjae">; commissioned (13)

[personal profile] braveoff 2018-02-01 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's pretty cool. But really dangerous. It's a good thing you knew there was something extra installed or you could've triggered it by accident.

[ He tilts his head curiously. ]

Is this usually the kinda thing you do for fun?
requiemshark: (016)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2018-02-01 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Terrence shrugs. He hasn't gotten burned yet, so.]

Uh huh. I get bored.

There's safer shit to do when you're bored. You like the rush, huh?
