Event Log: The Hope of a Child

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the The Hope of a Child event
Where: All over the city!
When: January 23rd-Feb 1st
Warnings: Youths

By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

► This log covers January 23rd-Feb 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you trip over a kid and die, please let us know here.

(1) Down by the river.

Will couldn't remember where he was but that was nothing new. His father's job had them traveling around a lot, mostly it brought them to waterfront towns and villages but this was a strange place, nothing like anywhere he'd ever been before.

Being an only child, Will was used to playing by himself, he had strange quirks and was kind of shy, constantly being the new kid at school only added to his quietness. it was unfortunate and often that he'd find himself at the brunt of bullies and jokes, so he tended to keep himself to himself.

Taking off his sneakers, rolling up his faded denim jeans and stepping out into the water, Will started to slowly wade out deeper and deeper, trying to catch fish with his hands... Oblivious to the dangers that lurked in the depth of the rolling waters.

(2) Out and about

He didn't mean to be strange, honestly! Will just struggled to interact with others. So as he stood there, cramped between two narrow walls of old store buildings, watching the other kids running around and playing, the few adults that seemed to be here too, smiling and engaging them, Will couldn't help but feel alone.

Sitting down, pulling his knees to his chest, fumbling with a small, smooth rock that he had found, rolling it around in his palm before it fell with a bounced and rolled out towards the other children. There was a sense of dread that grew inside him, as he watched it come to a stop at the feet of someone. He closed his eyes and rocked back and forth. Hopefully they wouldn't notice it, hopefully, they wouldn't see where it came from.

(3) Libary.

"Maybe this means---" Uttering out loud to himself as he tried to read one of the many books he'd found. It was strange, the words didn't seem to make sense, they were like nothing he'd ever seen before. Deciphering them was a fun game though! And Will already thought he had noticed a few patterns in certain scrips.

He'd been there all night, eating whatever cold meat he'd found in a half opened can behind the library. Probably not the safest thing to consume but hey, no adult supervision.

Seeing as no one really seemed to be as interested in the books as he was, Will has made himself a little den on one of the higher shelves. A few rags of blankets, a half burnt out candle and a few different shaped, small slithers of wood he thought looked interesting. He'd made himself quite the little private space up here, it was actually kind of relaxing!

Abigail's spent more of life hunting than fishing. She wanted to learn to fish because it was Will enjoyed. Without Hannibal, she was hoping to turn him into another father figure, someone to cling to as tightly she did with Hannibal. Being completely independent was too scary to even consider, especially in Hadriel. For her dad - she hunted. For Hannibal - she played harpsichord and sketched. For Will - she'd fish.

She had homemade rods, made out of materials she'd found and parts from monsters that she'd hunted. She carried them down to the river to practice on her own. The plan was to test each one out, see what worked and what didn't, then impress Will with what she'd learned. Maybe she'd even have a few fish to show off.

The plan changed as soon as she saw the boy in the water. Even with the recent events, she didn't make the connection that this could be Will. The idea of him as a father and her as a child was too entrenched in her thoughts. This kid reminded her of her innocent days before her dad became the shrike and she felt a twinge of protectiveness.

She waved to the kid, hoping to get his attention. "Hi, there. Would you like to come out and try fishing with me? I think this will work better than hands." She held up one of the rods, carved out of bone and with a fishing line made of out monster intestine. He didn't need to know that part though. She'd made sure to make them look as normal as possible.

Tatara was out an about, trying to help children stay out of trouble. After all, there were alot of places in Hadriel a small child could fall victim to. And, well, since he was reminded of a little princess back home, of one's birthday he had come to miss, he's naturally drawn to the little ones, even more than usual.

So he had passed through the stores, looking for supplies in a variety of things to help keep kids occupied and nourished. He was no Izuka, but he still figured he should be able to do a decent job at it, as far as cooking went.

He sure misses that bar. And Anna. HOMRA, and Mikoto.

But there's nothing he can do about that, is there? Even if the Gods could send him home, he figures... he would be dead just as he was when he left.

It's fine here. Even if it is a little lonely for the lack of the familiar faces he came to know and love.

But the sound of a pebble clacking at his feet, makes him pause, pulling him from his reverie. He looks down at it, finding a rather smooth stone, and he kneels down to pick it up. Had he kicked it, perhaps? He looks around and sees someone hiding between the buildings, looking terrified and rocking back and forth, as if waiting for the monsters under his bed to retreat.

He gently steps closer to the little boy, holding the stone out to him.

"Is this yours?" he asks with the gentlest of smiles.
