Event Log: The Hope of a Child

By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

"I'd like to, sometimes," he admits. "But they're very good at not listening to what they do not wish to hear."

Fingon grins. "I thought you could, you clever thing. Now have you seen the house we're staying it. I can show you how to find it, and then we can see about having a bit of fun."

"Where we staying? All together?" That would be fun!

"YAY! Playtime!"

"There's a house we'll be staying in, full of other elves whom you can come to for anything." Well, hopefully it would be full of elves. Fingon hadn't seen Curufinwe over the past few days.

"But you'll have us, and as many playmates as the city can hold besides."

He loves his family but...

"More family?" He asks cheerfully.

"Lots of friends! When can we go home though?:

...but? XD

[utulien_aure]

"Yes. But maybe I should let them introduce themselves. We wouldn't want to spoil the surprise, would we?" He pauses, then continues in the same cheerful voice. "Your brother is here as well, but he's very tired at the moment and taking a nap."

He swallows hard at that request. "Soon, Cano. Just enjoy yourself for now, while we sort out things here. But you'll be back where you belong soon. I promise."

but sometimes he wonders if anyone would mind if he gagged them XD

"Ooooh yes!"

He nods.

"Cano will let Nelyo sleep!" Until he gets bored. "Cans play with him later!"

He pats him gently. "Cousin Finno is sad?"

"Of course you can," Fingon agrees. With any luck, there would be enough other children around to keep little Cano busy. It was a pity that Maedhros couldn't see his brother so young and happy, though. He would have enjoyed it.

"Oh, a bit. It's been a little while since I've had the chance see Tirion, that's all."

Fingon gets a hug for that.

"Come and visit Cano after then! We cans play together lots and lots!"

He'd miss them talking anyway.

It's a very nice hug, one Fingon is happy to return.

"Do you know what? I think I will."

He supposes this is true

"Yay!"

He cheers happily.

"Can you play instruments, cousin Finno? We's can play together!"

It's never boring, at least?

"That I do. As a matter of fact, I have my harp at the house. Would you like to play with it?"

True that.

[childofthemusic]

"YES PLEASE!"

He bounces on his shoulders in eagerness.

"Is it a very big harp?"

[utulien_aure]

He should have guessed that would get a reaction.

"No, sadly. My larger harps are still in Hisilome." All of which had barely been touched since the Bragollach, he noted, a trifle sad at the thought. The house could hold a great harp, though- perhaps it was something to consider when this was over?

"But I have a traveller's harp with me, made by a very dear friend. And it sounds as sweet as any I have ever played."

"Can we go see now?"

He bounces.

[utulien_aure]

"We're heading there now," Fingon reassures him. "Take a look around, just in case you need to make your way back here later."

They pass through Delight's housing until they reach their destination.

"And here we are! Shall we take a look at that harp?"

[childofthemusic]

"Alright!"

He pays careful attention as they go - or well, as much attention as a child his age can be expected to.

"Yes please!"

That's all right. Fingon will be on hand to make sure he's safe.

[Until Findekano reappears, of course. Then who knows what will happen?]

"It's over here," he opens the door to his room, where the harp that Maedhros and Celebrimbor made waits on a chair. "Would you like to try it out?"

Terrible things, clearly!

"ooooooooooh" He sighs in wonder and looks up at him hopefully. "May I? Cano... I promise to be very gentle."

Fingon smiles at him, and reaches over for the harp. He hands it over with a small bow, "Of course you may! You should always take the opportunity to play a harp when it arises, don't you think?"

He's nodding so fast his head looks like a bobble toy, but when passed the harp ge automatically sits very still and handles it carefully.

"Yes! Sooo pretty." He touches the strings lightly, drawing a little rippling trill that makes him beam.

"Will cousin Finno play too?"

[utulien_aure]

"Would you like me to?"

Fingon doesn't mind, of course. But if Cano would prefer to play it himself, he doesn't mind.

He considers and then nods.

"We could... play together?" He beams at him hopefully.

[utulien_aure]

"Excellent idea," he beams down at Cano, and shifts to place his arms around the boy and the harp.

"What about The Weaver and the Stubborn Goat?" He suggested, thinking back to what he'd been playing at Cano's age. Makalaure had been probably beyond the easier children's songs at that point, but it was hardly as though Fingon could be sure.

"Yes!" He nods, snuggling happily into Fingon's hold.

"Cano plays the high part, and cousin Finno plays the low part?"

"I think I can manage that," Fingon says, absently strumming the first few chords of his part. "Shall we begin?"
