By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

[Whoa. That's so cool. Terrence brightens instantly.]

[The sucker stick burns up pretty quickly, so this time David just conjures the flame in his palm. It's hot, but it won't burn him, and this way it's easier to control.

After a moment, he scrunches up his face to concentrate and the flame flickers into the image of a cat running. Ta daaa.]

Has your school not started teaching you this stuff yet?

[His has, though he picked it up especially quickly. He can even cast two cantrips at once, which he's doing now. The perks of being a sorcerer.]

[Terrence doesn't actually pay much attention at school, but he totally would if they showed him how to do awesome fire tricks. He shakes his head.]

School's boring. As fuck.

Yeah, that's true. All the stuff I'm good at is boring because the other kids are dumb, and all the stuff I'm not good at is just regular boring.

[He shrugs. Magic is boring, too. The classes don't move fast enough for him.]

Where'd you get your thing? [He waves a hand toward the flamethrower.]

[Terrence hums. He gets that.]

This? Found it. Ain't it cool?

[David considers it. It's not that cool, but... okay, yeah, it's pretty cool. But he just shrugs again, noncommittally.]

Where'd you find it? Did you steal it or get it in one of the stores? You don't have to pay for stuff in the stores. You can just take whatever you want.

You know, around, [he says vaguely. Because he totally stole it.] This place has awesome stuff. Way cooler than back home.

[All the best stuff comes from stealing, so David is not surprised. This whole town apparently functions on a stealing-based economy, anyway.]

It has alright stuff, I guess. I found candy. [Which is the best thing to find, but it's also the only thing worth finding around here.] Nothing else is good. Your home must be pretty dumb if this place is that much better.

Everyone knows Talitsa's shit. Where're you from, anyway?

What's Talitsa? That doesn't sound like anywhere I know. I live in Philadelphia.

[Or a suburb of it, anyway, but he doubts this kid will have heard of Springfield if he's from some weird place called Talitsa.]
