By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.
And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!
Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...► This log covers January 23rd-Feb 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!

I'm like, the last person on the planet who's going to call the cops.
[He brushes aside some empty bottles, picks up one with something in it, and kind of tilts it back and forth. What is this, exactly?]
So do you sleepwalk? Or did somebody leave you like a puppy on the side of the road?

[Is she starting to sound a little panicky? She's feeling panicky.]
no subject
Well... what's the last thing you remember? Before you woke up here?
[He doesn't really want to get involved, but he's not heartless. She could actually be in trouble.]

[Yep, still panicky.]
Where are we?
no subject
[He holds his hands up in the universal gesture for "relax".]
I wake up in places I don't know all the time. It's okay. We're probably just in the southwest or something. [Yes, probably JUST in the other half of the country from where you were.]
You probably have family, right? They'll come look for you. Or like, I don't know, send the police. [At which point he doesn't want to be there, but you know.]
no subject
[But... Wait. She frowns.]
You wake up in random places all the time? You're kidding, right?
no subject
[Probably. He assumes that is what moms do.]
And it's not like I have amnesia or I'm teleporting or anything. I just don't always know the names of places. It's not a big deal.

[Why are you making this a thing???]
It's not like I'm lost or anything. I'm not going anywhere special.

[And dangerous.]
I don't have to go to school or anything. See? I told you it's cool.
no subject
[Mostly? Maybe?]
Are you like... alone, though?
no subject
[Why do people always think he cares about that? He'd be lying if he said he wasn't lonely sometimes, but 1. he lies a lot anyway and 2. it's better than the alternative.]
no subject
So you're totally fine with being in some weird desert? Can you like... help me get home?
no subject
[He can't tell her this freaks him out, though. The whole point was to make her not panic.]
I mean, deserts suck. I want to leave, too. I guess we can look for bus stations or like, trains. But those need money, so it's easier if we just find somebody with a car.
[So, yeah, hitchhiking.]
no subject
[Nico has drilled the whole stranger danger thing into her head more than her mother has, probably.]
No thanks.

We're not gonna get murdered. I've done this like, a million times. Nobody's ever tried to murder me.
[And if they did, he thinks he could at least buy some time with the element of surprise.]
Besides, I can defend myself.
no subject
no subject
Nobody's gonna have a gun.
[Probably. They might. Thanks for the paranoia, other kid.]
Wait, you can defend yourself?
[He looks her up and down, doubtful. She's like, a tiny wisp of a half-elf. What's she gonna do?]
no subject
[Which is maybe not something a twelve year old should be actively bragging about, but here they are.]
no subject
They don't teach kids magic. Not anything dangerous, anyway.
