By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

「She gets the right idea alright, he's always been taught these things, in order to protect himself, but he never really got the full picture of how bad it could be. I might not be a big wound at all, but he cannot imagine himself hurting others like this.

He nods slowly at her, picks up the dagger and offers it back at her.」

[ She's glad to have helped him learn that lesson, then. Honestly, she'd have been more concerned if he'd showed no remorse. That wouldn't line up with the Atem she knew and... She's glad, actually, that he was just as kind as a child as he is an adult.

She takes the dagger back, sheathing it easily. Already, her wound looks less severe. Given enough time, it'll be fine. Not even a scratch or a scar. ]

Alright, then. Let's get started.

「She's so strong... She has Atem surprised in more than one way, how she might be in pain and doesn't show it, and how friendly she is even after how he hurt her, and more over, how kind she acts around him, just so he learns.

She can bet she has a little admirer...

He nods enthusiastically--」

What's your name? Mine is Atem. People call me Prince but you can call me by my name.

[ To her, there's nothing about her that should be looked up too. She's not about to tell the kid that, of course, and what she doesn't know won't really hurt her but... ]

I'm Rose. Nice to meet you, Atem. [ This version of him, anyway. ] Are you really a prince though?

「Well, SHE'S WRONG AND HE'S RIGHT FITE HIM, or not because he could hurt her, again.」

Rose... 「Her name doesn't fit her, mind you... she's so white and her hair so golden, like some of his! He likes that!. But it's a pretty color anyway.」 Hmm, yeah, my dad-- my father is the king of Kemet.

[ And it's been established that neither of them want that. So, no fighting. Thakfully.

She notices the way he says her name like it's strange. It doesn't suit her in the way that most people think, does it? She doesn't look much like a rose but- Her mother had named her for her ability to bloom in adversity. She was more right than she would have known it was a strength her daughter would need. ]

Kemet, huh... I've never heard of it! But that's pretty cool. I've never met an actual prince before.

Never? Don't you have a king too? Where are you from?

「He's heard stories of golden haired people who lived up in the north, way too far away from home. But this is not home, right?」

We got a king of the dragons, but he's a huge-

[ Oh. Right. Shouldn't swear around children, uh. ]

-jerk. He's known as the 'rain bringer' and I've seen him do it. He's powerful... but not kind.

[ Which is why Rose doesn't hold much love for royalty these days. ]

I'm from Japan, originally. But I spent a lot of time in the states.

A dragon!?

「Why didn't she say that before?! He asks excitedly about that, apparently he doesn't seem to care if he's a jerk or not.」

Where is Japan? What are the states?

「Questions! He has them!」

A dragon!

[ she confirms. That's right. ]

His name's Ryuo and he's... Well, he's not really a good guy but he's really strong. [ Which seems to be about the only thing her people care about. ]

Japan's a country. The states is what I call the United States of America.

「The confirmation only seems to make his eyes sparkle! That's the most awesome and unbelievable thing... Dragons are like, Gods, or creatures of the gods! And that sole thing makes them super special. Not the fact he's not a good guy, though.」

What do you mean he's not a good guy? And... never heard of those places before...

「He seems to be thinking very hard as of where they would be. He's supposed to know all these countries and places, not that he's ever been there, but he had to know them!」

They are nowhere close to Kemet, are they?

[ In Rose's reality, they are basically a step down from the gods. Some of them even have ties to the dieties directly. Not that her gods ever seemed to care much for going ons of the yokai... Rose had found that to be true of any religion though. ]

He's just a jerk. Thinks that he and his brood know what's best for all of us. It gets on my nerves.

[ Don't hurt yourself, Atem. A lot of people aren't familiar with places from Rose's world, it's alright. ]

Prrrrobably not, if that's in Egypt. They're both an ocean away.

And, isn't it? Sometimes we have to do things we don't like for our own good.

「Just talking by experience. By the way, what is Egypt...?」

A whole ocean? That's super far!

「How disappointing. Can't go visit.」

Not if 'killing all humans' is a good thing. It wasn't, the last I checked.

[ Rose doesn't think anyone wants that except for the dragons and the demons that follow them. ]

It is super far! Well. Not as far as it used to be, I think... But you definitely aren't getting there anytime soon.

「Ouch, alright if she wanted to make her point across, that does it. His fascination for the dragon turns to horror.」

That's bad! Why would he do that?!

[ Rose gives a shrug as her unsure answer. ]

He thinks they're the ones tainting the world, not demons. They're throwing off the balance of all the ki and making a mess of everything, so- They gotta' go.

But he's wrong! Not all humans are bad!

「Well... duh? Shh, he's realizing that.」

What's a ki?

[ Rose knows that some humans are pretty fucking terrible. She's lived it. But he's right. A few rotten apples doesn't spoil the bunch. If only Ryuo could see the same. ]

It's energy. It's in everything, from the trees to the mountains to me.

「She says energy and he looks at the his palms then at the trees around the orchard.」

Like... the... hmm soul?

[ All that has ki, too. It's here. She can feel it. ]

Not... exactly. But sort of close, I guess. It's in everything and kind of influences the natural order of stuff.

「Natural order or stuff... He frowns at her, well, not at her, more than at the idea, he's trying to understand.」

Killing people would affect the natural order of stuff even worse, hasn't anyone told him that?

「He's so disappointed, dragons are supposed to be glorious creatures, bringers of good omen, not... killers. He crosses his arms, looking more than a little annoyed.」

[ Dragons are colossal douchecanoes, sorry to break the news. At least, the dragons of her world absolutely are. Rose hasn't ever thought highly of them. A lot of yokai seem to though, so- They must be doing something right. ]

He doesn't think so. He thinks humans are the ones that messed it all up in the first place. Wipe them out, problem solved.

「He pouts, a very tender frown wrikles his forehead. He's obviously not okay with these news!」

You're right, he's a jerk...

「Baw, he shouldn't sound so disappointed but he is. But he's not about to give up on this.」

If you find a way out of here, take me with you, maybe I can try talking to him!

「Hmm.. yep, that's him alright, hasn't changed much to the adult version Rose knows already.」

[ Ah. No, that he hasn't. The spunk makes her smile though. She's oddly endeared. If only there were more humans like him out there, huh? ]

He's the rainmaker, kid. He'd drown you. Or worse, smite you with lightning.

「Because that's so scary for seven year old.」

No, he will hear me, I'll make sure of that.

「Cue pout. He doesn't know how! But he will, he will!」

Let's begin those classes! I'm gonna need them.

「He sounds bossy, putting his hand on his hips and all, but it's not quite at Rose more than him being a little mad about the situation.」
