By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

Well, Father is just Warden of the South, he's not the king. But, you know what? Father tells me that I'm going to be the queen when I grow up!

It is. My House sigil is a golden rose. [she pulls a fine gold chain out from her dress. hanging from the chain is this charm] See?

You know you're going to be married already? [All right, a little odd but it happens- though wait, she said "the queen?"] To the king?

[He tries to picture her in his grandmother's golden robes for a moment. Maybe she'd like them if she likes pretty clothes?]

Oh, that's pretty! It looks a little like one of Laurelin's flowers.

Well. . . it's not settled yet. But I'm only a couple of years older than Prince Joffrey and father says that I'm going to grow into a beauty. That's why I have so many lessons in governance and politics and charm with grandmother. I have to make sure that when I meet the prince and his father, they'll want no one but me. [and she already has a good idea of what charming men will involve.

Laurelin's one of the Trees! She blooms during the day at home, and she gives off golden light.

[she shakes her head] It won't matter if I like him or not. I'll be the queen and the mother of the prince. Princes learn from their mothers and I'll have a lot to teach mine.

A tree that gives off light? We don't have anything like that in Highgarden. She must be beautiful!

But princes learn from a lot of people, not just their mothers. And their fathers. And their aunts and uncles. And tutors and the Valar and the Master Craftsmen...

If you're gonna be married to someone forever, you should get to like them.

[The Elves of Arda take their romances very seriously. When you're bound to one person for the lifetime of the world, you have to be.]

She's very beautiful, she and Telperion give light to all of Aman. You can see them from almost everywhere. And when Telperion and Laurelin bloom together, there's golden and silver light everywhere.

Not in Westeros. There, the mother has the final say in which maester tutors her son and she teaches him herself.

It would be nice to get to like him. My mother and father seem to like each other well enough, but they were strangers when they wed.

[Westeros weddings are primarily for alliance purposes, not love. ones who are for love only don't tend to end well.

she sighs happily] I would love to see it. Do you think maybe I can?
