Event Log: The Hope of a Child

By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

[ Angus makes the mistake of taking his eyes off one of the twins for a second, and then Lup is suddenly behind him and his exit is blocked. He squeaks, going completely rigid. Oh boy, is he gonna have to jump out the window again? Is that going to keep being a Thing when the twins are involved? ]

Everything that I have is in here, and you already said you didn't like any of it!

[ PLEASE DANIEL, WE CAN'T KEEP DOING THIS!! ]

[pocketspa]

[TRAPPED NOW, BUDDY. Taako folds his arms but leans in his chest, closing even the small amount of space between them.]

But we totally just said we liked your shoes, so... you've probably got plenty more.

[SHOE!!!! HEAVEN!!!!!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!]

[restinglichface]

[Angus, Lup's gonna feel a little bad for this later.

The hands on his shoulders suddenly disappear before Lup's wrapping her skinny limbs around Angus instead, trying to trap his arms to his body. She's skinny, but has a bit of a height advantage on the younger boy.]

Quick! Grab 'em, Taako!

[hellosirs]

[ Likewise, Angus may apologize later for the drastic steps he had to take in self-defense.

... Namely, screeching like a banshee, doing his best to wriggle out of Lup's arms, and stomping on one of her bare feet. Sorry Lup! His fight or flight instincts have activated! ]

[pocketspa]

[Unlike Angus, Taako will not be apologizing for this later, because he never apologizes for anything. He launches himself at Angus' feet, grabbing the ankle of the one that stepped on Lup and wrenching it upward to pull the shoe right off his foot.]

Stop fightin'!!

[restinglichface]

[Lup's grip on Angus loosens immediately at the unexpected stamp to her bare feet, the elf throwing her arms up and howling at the top of her lungs.]

You little jerkhead!!!

[hellosirs]

[ Taako jerks his foot upwards and Angus strains away with a high-pitched noise, trying to force his leg back down and out of the elf's grip. Instead, the minute his shoe is ripped off, well... that inertia has to go somewhere, so Angus's foot snaps back up and Taako absolutely gets kicked in the face. His arms pinwheel for a second, as he's left standing one one foot and wildly off balance, before Angus tips backwards and crashes into Lup. Everything is a disaster! ]

Sorry! Sorry, ohmygosh, I'm--!

[pocketspa]

[Oh, it connects. Taako's mind is already much ahead and getting the second shoe, but the foot goes up, cracks Taako square in the jaw, and he goes backwards and ass over head with a magnificent whump. The shoe is dropped as he goes down, rolling across the floor a bit and out of all of their grips.

Taako groans, sitting up and holding onto his jaw... and then proceeds to spit a tooth out into his hand, which he stares at for a few seconds before looking up at Angus and Lup in something between horror and amazement.]

What the hell.

[restinglichface]

Holy shit. [Lup's voice echoes out at the same time Taako speaks, the two twins staring down at the tooth in her brother's hand before looking right at Angus.

Whatever they expected to get out of this - shoes, probably - that sure wasn't it.]

I can't believe you killed my brother. You, a total giant weenie.

[hellosirs]

He's not dead!

[ Angus crouches down and launches himself at the fallen shoe while everyone is still reeling from the shock. He's honestly just as horrified as the twins (and he has a sneaking suspicion that neither of them will let him live this down, once they're back to normal), but this is probably the only chance he'll get to recover it! ]

... and I said I was sorry!

[pocketspa]

[If Taako was more of an actual weenie, he might cry here, or throw some fit. Instead, he just stares at the tooth another few seconds before tucking it into his pants pocket. He’ll deal with that later. For now, he’s launching himself back at the shoe, meeting Angus on the other side of it as they’re back into tug of war stance.]

Doesn’t matter! Now you deffo owe me! Hand it over!

[restinglichface]

[Taako leaps back into action and Lup takes only a moment to follow. She tries to thread her skinny arms under Angus' this time, pulling them up in proper bullying stance.

Though she's a little more careful about her feet placement this time around.]

Stop strugglin'! A tooth for a shoe! It's just polite!

[hellosirs]

[ You know what? Angus is still kind of a weenie, that move totally works on him. He yelps and just starts wriggling like crazy, trying to squirm his way out of Lup's grasp. ]

What're you even gonna do with one shoe?!

[pocketspa]

Take the other one and have two shoes, duh!

[Then they each get one shoe. And that’s better than neither of them having any shoes!! It’s just science, Angus, gosh. This is a mess and a half.]

So give it! You probably got tons more! What’s one pair a’ shoes??

[restinglichface]

[Angus is the wiggling champ! Lup tries to hold him down while Taako pries off his shoes, but two noodle children wiggling around together don't really get very far.]

Hurry up, Taako! Stop yappin' an' grab it offa him!

[hellosirs]

[ Ok, on second thought, a strategic retreat might be in order here! He's outnumbered, and the twins have a lifetime of practice at double-teaming their unfortunate targets... but he doesn't want to kick Taako in the face again, because he's already gonna have enough trouble living that down when things go back to normal.

Angus manages to tug his wand out from under his sweatervest mid-wiggle, aims it at Taako, and casts Levitate to make him float 2-3 feet off the ground. If Lup's grip on him lessens any, he's running for it. Magic may be cheating, but two against one isn't exactly fair, either! ]

[An older Taako might have more experience with spells, the ability to counteract or at least control himself from a spell that doesn’t do more than lift him. However, this Taako? Absolutely not. Between Angus’ wiggling and the newfound reversal of gravity, he loses his grip quickly, shrieking as he’s released into the air. He’s now a floating hazard, limbs splayed out as he tries to grab for anything, unaware he’s not just going to keep going and fly into the sun or something.]

Lup!!! G-Get me down!!

[FUCK THE SHOES, HE WANTS TO LIVE]

[At first, Taako shrieks and Lup just assumes that her brother is being a big baby about Angus flailing his skinny legs around again, but then she peeks up over the boy's shoulder to see her twin looking so much taller than he'd been two seconds ago.

It's just enough of a distraction for Lup's grip to loosen around Angus, her mouth parting, eyes going impossibly wide.] What the-- How'd you make my brother grow. That's not fair--

[But then Taako keeps growing and Lup realizes his feet aren't anywhere close to the ground. He's not growing, he's floating away!

Angus gets shoved to the side in favor of Lup leaping up to grab her twin's bare feet, attempting to tug him back down to the ground. Don't you dare float away without her!]

[hellosirs]

[ Angus bolts out the door and runs downstairs, minus one shoe, but... not minus two shoes, that has to count for something. As he makes his escape and the Levitation spell deactivates, the twins will hear his voice fading into the distance: ]
