By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

( She nods, not seeming to respond to the tone in any noticeable way. But her eyes drift out towards the city as she talks. )

Yeah. After Cocoon fell, lots of people moved to the planet below. It was abandoned for a long time, and there were a lot of monsters. We had to start from scratch. Build new towns and villages.

( It's then she drags her attention back to Sweets. )

I know it isn't the same, here. That this place wasn't abandoned. But seeing everyone trying to build a new home, relying on each other... it reminds me of that, you know?

[Lance is quiet, listening in interest but watching her just as much he's paying attention to her words. When she looks back over and finished, he gives a small smile.]

That's a very positive outlook to have. It's nice to hear.

[Everyone and everything is usually so somber and negative, even Lance himself lately despite that he really does have good reason. But some positivity goes a long way, and although he can't quite share her viewpoint--especially without her experiences, and with knowing some of the past occurrences here--it's still refreshing.]

( Being positive is just better, isn't it? Better than being hung up on pain and feeling cynical about everything.

Besides, someone had to try and get Lightning to smile. Goodness knows her sister needed that.

All that said, Serah does look a little surprised at Sweets' response. It's just been how she always is. Finding the bright side. Good dreams when she was turned to crystal, her work with the students back home, Snow-the-Cat, her friends at NORA. All of those things little bright sides when everything else could hurt too much. )

What's your home like?

( Come to think of it, though, she doesn't know anything about his home. )

[Lance has to consider the question for a moment, not because he can't describe his home but because he needs to figure out a way to do so that'll make sense, considering Serah's description of her own world.]

I live in the capital city of the country, so it's very developed and active; sometimes a little too active, for me. I see a lot of it since I work in law enforcement.

( So it's a lot like Eden was, before everything happened. Working in law enforcement, huh... )

You said you were a psychologist. So, I'm guessing you helped the officers with their problems.

( She speaks slowly, as if piecing the idea together. The Sanctum wasn't exactly in the business of, you know, providing mental health care to their workers, most likely. )

Yes, at least at first. Then I got involved with solving the cases, and also became an officer--they're called agents in this organization--myself.

[The FBI really should've paid him three different salaries, honestly.]

I can see how that would help. ( Breaking the law has a lot to do with people's perception, just like psychology, right? ) You must have been very good at your job.
