By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.
And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!
Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...► This log covers January 23rd-Feb 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you trip over a kid and die, please let us know here.

I mean, I got my guitar somewhere around here. I could maybe jam a little, if you wanted to listen to that. Can't promise it'd be anything like what you're used to but it's something.

[a pause]
What's a guitar?
no subject
A guitar is... [ The blond trails off as she moves to where she'd let it rest against the trunk of a tree not too far away. ]
This beautiful thing.
[ Bam. One (1) acoustic guitar, on display. It's case is left off to the side. ]

she watches curiously as Rose goes to retrieve something she's never seen before, but assumes it's the guitar. ooooh]
I've never seen one of those before. It looks like a lute, only prettier.
[she is very curious to know what it sounds like]
no subject
She gives it a test strum, single notes sounding in the air before hitting a whole cord. Her head tilts. ]
Huh. One second, it's a little out of tune.
no subject
I can wait. I don't mind.

Last night I fell in love without you. I waved goodbye to that heart of mine beating solo on your lawn. Every aching wound will cauterize and bruise in memory of what we used to call in love. And only time will tell if violins will swell in memory of what we used to call in love, used to call it love

after Rose finishes playing, Margaery scrambles to her feet, applauding enthusiastically and grinning brightly]
Oh, that was wonderful! You have a beautiful voice and I love your guitar. Do you--do you think you could teach me?
no subject
I could, yeah. At least maybe some easy chords. Like... most songs are only four chords? Some dudes even made a song about it.
no subject
she claps again]
You could? Wonderful! I can learn four chords. Grandmother says I can learn anything.
no subject
Alright, then- [ she starts, taking the strap from over her shoulder and handing the instrument over to Margaery. ]
First, you gotta' learn how to hold it right. Lemme' see.
no subject
she wiggles a little in excitement and takes the guitar reverently]
That makes sense. You can't go very far if you're not doing it the right way.
no subject
Probably. ]
Nope. So, put your hands like this- [ As she says it, she lifts the girl's hands gingerly into the proper place. ] How's that feel?
no subject
she lets her hands be maneuvered into the proper place] That feels fine. What do I do now?
no subject
[ It's a learning experience, really. This is the way Rose had learned, feeling out the instrument first in a way more intimate than textbooks or videos could provide. ]
no subject
[she experiments with the guitar, plucking different strings ranging from lowest to highest. she also moves her fingers along the fretboard to hear what it sounds like. she smiles over at Rose]
How long did it take for you to play so well?
no subject
Yeah, the long part- You've got it, don't worry. See the little lines? Those a different frets. It's also called a fingerboard since it's where you rest your fingers, but. You don't need to know all the technical stuff just yet.
[ As for her, well... She supposes she learned a bit faster than most. Of course, she had superhuman hearing and reflexes to help her out. ]
A few years, maybe? I can play most stuff by ear now and that's a skill you just kind of pick up as you go, able to listen to notes or cords and know exactly which ones they are then replicate them. Don't worry if you can't do that right away. Some people go their whole lives unable to do it, actually.
no subject
Yes, I see them! So touching different frets makes the guitar sound differently? And I appreciate learning the proper words for things! Grandmother says that you must always have all of the facts all of the time.
[while Margaery is a wee human. she has an ear for music when it comes to dancing, but no one has ever tried to teach her an instrument before]
All right, I won't worry. I'll try really hard, though.
no subject
Yeah, placing your fingers higher up or down or different places will make different sounds. It's pretty neat. But your grandma's right. You're gonna' get people trying to test you all the time so better to know what you're talking about.
[ At that second part, she only continues to smile. ] I'm sure you will. And if you keep trying, you'll be a pro in no time.
no subject
she tries out what Rose says, moving her fingers on the strings of the frets to experiment with different sounds] This is very neat! I'm getting to learn something that no one else in Westeros knows how to do! [and she nods] Grandmother has me studying and practicing all day. I don't mind. Most of it's fun and the parts that aren't are good opportunities to practice my ability to seem interested.
I'd like to keep trying a lot, but this is your guitar. Where can I find one of my own?
no subject
I don't know. This one came with me when I arrived and I haven't needed to ask the gods for any replacement parts or anything yet, but... My bet would be asking one of them.
no subject
Oh, that's fortunate for you! But, you have gods here? Not the Faith of the Seven?
no subject
They're not my gods. They're this world's.
