By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

It may be a lie, but Lup's watching Merle a little more carefully now. And sure, there's still suspicion behind her gaze, but it's definitely pushed back in place of a soft, childlike kind of awe.]

That's so cool. Does he give you wishes? Could you get anythin' you want? Like, a castle? Or a giant pile of gold? Oh, or a pet dragon!! [Gods are basically genies, right?] You should tell him to make your arm less weird. I think it smells funny.

First off, I'm not gonna add a buncha stuff to his backlog. Paperwork's crazy up there! Second, how do you know it's not just the rest of me that smells weird?

The tiny elf narrows her eyes up at the man, her expression extra critical and just full of judgement on the man, before Lup finally give a shrug of her skinny shoulders.] Guess that could be true.

Do ya got any more sandwiches?

[ You did it, Merle. You won. It's the greatest negotiating success of your entire career, and you didn't even deny that you smell weird. ]

Oh, yeah, for sure! Can't offer people food if you didn't get any together! C'mon, we can get ya set up. I mean, the fact is, food's all free in this town anyway. Gettin' stuff together's the real pain in the ass.

[Merle you are a conundrum.]

How can all the food here be free? Why would anyone make food and just give it away for nothin'? That sounds super fake. No one's that nice.

Oh, I dunno. There are some pretty good people out there if you keep lookin'! Believe me, I've looked all over the place.

[ There's some quality folks in the universe. Like, this kid is gonna be one. That's already a good count. ]

I mean, the food thing, I actually don't know about. It just shows up. H- maybe I've been stealing this whole time! Someone's got a tab for me if I ever start makin' some money!

[Merle's mention of accidentally stealing at least manages to leave the girl smiling a little. Now he sounds honest.]

So where's all the food at? Will you show me how to steal it without gettin' caught? [Give the girl some tips, Merle. Show her how to become a proper thief.]

[ It's so great how crimes make children smile. Angus could afford to get on this level. ]

Yeah, you bet I will! [ TEACH KIDS TO BE CHAOTIC NEUTRAL AT BEST 2K18. ] C'mon, I'll show you a thing or two about... stealth. And distraction. And how there's no one at the counter anyway. Might as well have some fun on a supply run!

[Angus could honestly learn a lot from Merle. Not like, anything good, but a lot.

Lup is a small child and even she barely believes that anything about Merle could be described as stealthy, but damn if she isn't invested now. She's gotta see this out to the very end.]
