By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

[He can hear it in her tone, the inquisitiveness of a kid who doesn't yet know limits. Part of him misses that boundless confidence too, but it's not something he ever really had until he waa much older and forced himself to believe it.]

Well pumpkin, for starters, you wouldn't wanna do that inside.

[Cuz those stop being fireworks and start being a house fire like, real fast.]

Besides, takes energy to cast the big stuff. Can only do stuff like that a couple times a day. Some of the real fancy stuff is only once a day plus not getting smacked around. Don't you feel tired if you do too much?

[ For Rose, at this age, the sky is truly the limit. She'll hit her head on it eventually nad know that isn't quite the way reality works, but- For now, she still believes that she (and others)
can do almost anything. ]

Oh. [ she says to that. He's right, actually. Fireworks inside would be a bad idea. She thinks of her village's little wooden shacks set ablaze because of stay fireworks. ]

I guess, like. A little, sometimes? I don't use it a whole lot.

[ She hasn't had reason to just yet. ]

See, so there you go. Gotta have small magic same as big magic.

[He leans forward and pokes her on the nose, and a few sparkles come between them when they touch.]

So what sort of things do you do?

[ Her nose actually wiggles in response, blinking a few times at the bright sparkles before they reflect in her eyes after a couple blinks. She smiles just as beautifully as the magic itself. ]

The ice is, uhm. That's really all? I'm not really an elemental... I can howl really well! But that's not magic.

[He pulls back, brushing off his hands a bit. He needs to remember she’s going to, uh, completely remember this whenever the gods fix whatever the hell they’re pulling, so he can’t get too saccharine. Though it’s hard to reconcile this with the woman he does drugs with and the woman who ripped out his throat.

Man, when did his life get so complicated?]

Oh yeah, howling, that’s gonna be great. You’ll get better with the magic stuff. Y’know. Once you’ve done more.

[ It's always been complicated, Taako. Pudding has only listened to approximately like 1/4 of your canon and she already knows this, okay. ]

You think so? [ 'Practice makes perfect' is a saying among demonkind, too. Her father was insistent about it, actually. He figured the harder Rose tried, the better she'd become and maybe people would stop talking about the little wolf who couldn't. ]

I don't know what I can do besides ice, really, but I can try and figure out more stuff! I'm pretty fast...

[It's fucking true, god, it's so true. He can't help but smile a little though, making it thankfully look more smug than genuine. He crooks his finger and the ball of light in her hand flies back his direction, joining the other three circling his hat.]

You wanna learn how to do this? Great for throwing in people's faces if they piss you off. Or just a decent reading light.

[ Her eyes follow the light before falling back onto his face. ]

Uh, yeah! Of course I wanna' learn how to do this! I didn't know I could, this is awesome!

[ Way to make this littlest woofs day, Taako. ]

[Listen, he gets to show off and gets more praise. This is like a win/win, frankly.]

Alright, watch closely.

[He unhooks a pouch from his belt, digs around in it a bit, and pulls out a small rock.]

So uh, with magic, you've got three parts- spoken, like, magic words, visual, so you see where you're goin', and material, so like, stuff you need to hold. So for this spell, we need all three. So we have this rock, which is the uh, material part. And we can see, so we got the visual. So the last thing is the magic word.

[He holds the hand up with the rock in it, and speaks a word ~~that I don't know because DND is not great at this~~ and the balls of light appear again, circling around the hand with the rock. He dispells them with a flourish, and bends down a bit to hand her the rock.]

Now you try. Just think uh, really hard about those light balls, and say the magic word.

[ It's so different from ki. For Rose's 'magic' to work, all she needs is to focus enough and suddenly she's changing her very own energy into something tangible. There are limits, of course. Creatures like her only have the innate ability for ice. Similarly, fire apparitions can only channel their ki in a way that manifests fire.

She's not so sure this will work, but- She wants to try. She hopes it works. And if she does remember this, she will probably ask him again later to teach her more. She watches intensely then focuses on the rock even more intensely. When she finally thinks she's had the balls of light in her mind's eye for enough time, she says what she needs to and-

It works.

Sort of. It's more like a flash pop than a consistent light source. It's there for the whole of maybe a few seconds before it sputters out. Still- ] Woah! I can do magic!

[ Kids are very, very easily amused. ]

(( ooc: heyo! i'm on hiatus until probably mid-april due to life stuff so i will still be painfully slow if you'd rather drop/handwave this and start something new when I get back lmk!!! ))

[Shhh, so he’s being sweet here, don’t @ him okay. He watches with his arms crossed, hip cocked, but can’t help the tug of a smile when she gets it— or well, close enough. Angus’ first attempt was about as bad, but this was absolutely less grisly.]

Yyyup, guess so. See, just that easy. I’d say, uh, maybe one day you’ll be as good as me, but there is no chance of that happening. But y’know, you can learn.

[Taako why are you like this.]

[ooc: I’m good w keeping this one if you are!]

[ She doesn't like that she wasn't better at it right. All skills take time to learn, she knows, but there's so much still that Rose seems to struggle with but- Maybe this is something she'll actually be good at, for once. ]

Maybe not as good as you, [ she agrees, far more easily than her adult counterpart would ] But! Is second best still an option?

[ Just look at that grin. ]

[Ugh, this is stupid cute. He grins, and then ruffles her hair somethin' fierce.]

Mmmmaybe. Better practice hard, kiddo. I don't give up second in command so easy.

[But it's not as mean as his last statement, so that's... progress?]

[ To that, Rose can only give a light fit of laughter. Her ears bend under his hand then immediately pop back up once he draws it back as her tail wags excitedly. ]

I'm gonna' practice so hard! Starting right now!

[ SHE'S SO READY TO GO, TAAKO, YOU DON't EVEN KNOW!!! ]

Yeah, yeah, show don’t tell little gal.

[He reaches down, takes the rock he gave her for the spell, and neatly splits it into two pieces, handing one back to her.]

There. Get on it.
