By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.
And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!
Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...► This log covers January 23rd-Feb 1st.

[Abigail stares at him in disbelief. As any teen of her generation, she thinks everyone would know them even if they weren't allowed to use them.]
What sites do you use? Twitter's getting popular. Do you send out royal tweets? Have Facebook, Myspace? Make youtube videos?

[She thinks back to what's learned in school.]
Are they all banned? I thought that only happened in places like China and North Korea. Maybe Iran. Are you communist? I didn't think they had royalty.

[She pauses, thinking maybe it isn't the government, but the technology.]

[She's very confused. Could someone be a royal, dressed this fancy and not have, what is to her - the basics?]

[Abigail stares at him for a few moments, trying to understand what's going on.]

[She pauses. He wouldn't get Minnesota winters in his part of the world.]

[She blinks.]
Well, it has to matter to you. How can you do anything without it? It'd be like a black out all the time.

We don't need to heat our houses, the Sun warms everything, and it's really hot outside already, like, all the time. If I get really, really hot I just go get a bath, or swim in The River. But, it's a little annoying at times, because I would have to reapply the khol and all the other stuff and that takes a lot of time... And sometimes it gets a little chilly during the night but, then you just use a cozy blanket. And when it's really dark out there we use candles and torches.
Can't you do anything without power?

The khol? What's that? Sunscreen? I like to swim too, in the lakes or the community pool. But don't you ever want air conditioning if you live somewhere so hot? Or a nice dish of ice cream, straight out of the fridge? Electric blankets have got to be coziest, especially with a mug of hot chocolate to sip from. And flipping a light switch is easier than lighting a candle. Even a flashlight would be easier.
[She nods.]
Oh, yeah. My dad likes to take me camping. We hunt and hike, take nature photos, cook our meals over a fire, have s'mores for dessert and sleep in tents or under the stars with sleeping bags. We might go mountain climbing too, someday. But when camping's over, I just want to go home, back to normal life and a place to charge my phone.
[Because a phone is essential to her normal teenage life.]

「He gives little sigh, he really wishes he knew what she's talking about, it sounds very interesting, but he doesn't want to burden her with his million questions either. They'd probably never end. But he listens attentively anyway,」
Do you think your dad would get mad if I visited you?
「He asks after a little pause from his part. All he can think about is learning about all this stuff. But, let's face it, her dad sounds a little scary.」

Oh. So it's like eye shadow? Or eye black?
[Abigail's first thought is that her father would be beyond mad. He doesn't even let guys from her class visit when they've got a group project to work on. She could tell her dad that she can date girls too, but then he might not let her have any friends at all.]
[She doesn't want to scare Atem off.]
He's not really good with vistors. Maybe you could come in secret and we could hang out near my school?
[She pauses.]
I guess you can't do much in secret though. You must have paparazzi around you all the time.

「It's ridiculous the amount of knowledge he has about makeup... He could make Abigail look all pretty.
Oh but, that sounds like something he can do.」
No! Wait, I can! I... 「He lowers his voice, but still looks excited about it.」 I've escaped from the palace a few times, visited the market wearing a cloak. No one recognized me, I think we can do that and we can hang out without anyone knowing.
「Paparazzi sounds like a bother, and... he will not bother with that, they are probably some kind of bodyguards or something, which he did have around, most of the times.」

[She smiles.]
Like a modern day King Henry, huh? Don't you worry someone might see you? And take a video?..Oh, right. No electricity, so probably no phones. And no tourists either?
[Her smile fades as the reality, or what she thinks is the reality, sets in.]

「Lip gloss sounds familiar! Probably not what they would call it, but it helps the lips from chapping, it's so hot there it happens all the time. He idly wonders what Christmas is, since it makes her smile.」
No, if they see me... the worst that could happen is they taking me back to the palace. 「Not true, at all, but he still naively thinks all people are inherently good and wouldn't hurt him because of who he is. He's been mostly lucky. 」
Airports... I don't know.
「He's a little afraid to ask at this point but he sees her smile fade and it worries him. It's one thing after the other.」

[It hasn't happened to her, mainly because her dad's strict rules don't allow her to do much to embarrass herself. She's seen it happen to other kids and can only imagine that it's worse for someone famous.]
