By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

[ He hugs her enthusiastically ]

Thank you, Abigail! You's really really nice.

[Abigail hugs him back with a giggle.]

Thank you. That might be the first time anyone's ever said that to me.

[ He gapes up at her ]

That's silly, coz Abigail is the nicest! Cano'll say it all the time!

[am_i_a_monster]

I think Cano is the nicest!

[She exclaims. He's so innocent. It reminds of when she was that way and makes her feel happier than she's been in a while.]

[childofthemusic]

[ He shakes his head at her ]

Nuh uh, we can't both be the nicest! Abigail is the bestest ever!

[am_i_a_monster]

[Abigail giggles.]

We can tie! Cano is the bestest, most awesome, coolest ever!

[ he ponders this and then laughs, agreeing ]

Tie! [ he hugs her then grins ] Us should shake on it!

Deal!

[Abigail grins and shakes her entire body]

Just kidding.

She extends her hand for him to shake.]

[ He nearly falls over giggling, and grabs her hand to bounce excitedly rather than shake ]

Deal! [ He pauses ] Does us have to spit on our hands? Cano's seen the merchants do that.

[Abigail laughs at his reaction and then shakes her head.]

No spitting. I'm glad I'm not a merchant.

[She wrinkles her nose.]

I wouldn't want to buy anything from those merchants, especially not food.

It's very un... un... un-hy-genic. [ He says the long word slowly ]

Cano wonders if they wash their hands?

You're right. It is very unhygienic.

[Abigail shrugs.]

I'd hope so. I'd still wash anything you buy from them. All those germs. Hannibal would probably by very disturbed by it.

Whassa germ? [ He asks curiously ]

[am_i_a_monster]

[Abigail takes a moment to think of an answer he'll understand]

Germs are teeny, tiny organisms that can make us sick. They're so small that you can't even see them without a microscope. And there's lots of them in spit.

[childofthemusic]

A mic-ro-scope?

[ He says curiously ]

Woooooow they must be really really tiny. Why do they make us 'sick'? [ what is sick ]

[am_i_a_monster]

A microscope is a tool for making small things look bigger so you can see them. Germs make us sick because they don't belong in our bodies. They can use up our energy and make us tired, so our bodies try to get rid of them by making us sneeze, cough or get a fever.

[That at least sounded sort of right.]

My guardian, Hannibal, he's a doctor. He could explain it better.

Wooooows! [ He bounces ]

That sound REALLY interesting! Cano didn't know they existed, although Cano...I've never had a fever before. [ earnestly ] Cano thinks Abigail explains stuff REALLY well. Lord Hannibal must be really really clever!

[am_i_a_monster]

Never ever? You must be really healthy.

[Or he doesn't remember. Abigail can't think of any kid who's never been sick. She gives him a big smile.]

Thank you. And he is. Hannibal's the smartest person I know. He knows about medicine, psychology, art, music, gourmet cooking, all kinds of things.

[childofthemusic]

Never ever. [ He nods ]

Cano doesn't think we gets sick like that? Nelyo broke his wrist once, and Grandmother Miriel went to sleep and never woke up, but Cano's never seen anyone with a fever.

He sounds reaaaaaaaaaally smart! Abigail must be really smart too, huh?

[am_i_a_monster]

[Abigail looks at him curiously. Hard to believe he could have never had at least the flu.] You must have really good immune systems. Or vaccines. Do you get a lot of shots?

[Abigail chuckles.] I don't know. Hannibal thinks I'm smart, so maybe?

[ he shakes his head ]

Cano's never had a shot. Mebbe it's the immune system?
