By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

[He like, outright sprints to this broom. He’s gonna die and it’s gonna be worth it. Part of him thinks this dude gave him some bullshit password for the goof, but he seems pretty serious about it. It’s not trust, really, just betting on the odds of Merle being a moron. Which are pretty good odds.]

Okay okay okay.

[He puts a hand on it, and looks very, very intently.]

Hang ten!

[And holy shit it’s working it’s working he’s using all of his limbs to get on this thing right now.]

[ RIP maybe Taako we knew ye well. Merle's not even stopping this. They need a competent adult. But none of those exist, which is the secret of all adults. ]

Just remember I mean it! If you eat shit, I'm not liable! A-and if you get stuck in a tree, I'm gonna sit under it and laugh at you. Leave you for a bobcat to find!

[ There aren't any bobcats here, he thinks. But maybe if he paints Peanut. That seems like a cool and fair and not deadly idea for a grown man to have. ]

[Merle, you are a fucking menace. Taako will chastize him for it once he's like, taller than him again. Then again, he probably is now. Dwarves, man. Regardless, he wraps all of his limbs around this thing like a stretched out koala and is super ready to go.]

You're never gonna catch me, old man! This is mine now!

[And he wills this thing to go.

And oh no, it goes.

The broom rockets upwards and Taako screams, suddenly wondering how Merle fucking surfs this thing but also mostly panicked. He's not letting go though. But it sure ain't going in a straight line.

[ rip, my little dude, rip. Merle's laughing because he's a bastard man. That's the long and short of who he is as a person. He cares but consider, he could be laughing at a kid pulling a full Mookie.

Though you know what. Mookie would be screaming from laughter, not terror.

How does he steer that thing while surfing? He never actually thought about it, ever, it's just been one of those little blessings in life that happens to him. ]

You gotta point the handle!

[With that artfully and kindly delivered advice, Taako jams the tip of it downwards, trying to control the movement. He hasn't quite figured out how to make it go slower, though, meaning he whings around a bit but seems to get it to go mostly okay.]

I don't need advice! I can do this--

[And, in not looking where he's going, he slams right into a fucking tree. He looks like he's gonna fall right out of it, broom stuck up in the branches, but he stops himself from falling by holding onto the trunk hard despite his dizziness.]

... That was. On purpose.

[ God, kids are wild. They're just absolute riots. Little snot-nosed buttfaces. ]

Oh yeah, I believe you. Sure. Would I believe you if I could cast Zone of Truth? Who knows!

[ He wishes Magnus was standing here right now so he could just like. Climb the tree and grab an elf and save everyone's day. Oh well. Gotta make do in this life. ]

Break any bones as part of your master plan?

[He's surprisingly durable, so he's dazed, but okay. He sticks his tongue out in Merle's direction, not moving.]

And now you can't get me anyway! I'm still gonna get away with this! I took it! There's no police either so you can't call anyone!

[ SHRUG ]

I dunno, I'm not too worried about it. Shit happens, right? Next time you crash, I could just loot ya.

[This has become an argument of children, in which both sides are Actual Babies. It's actually remarkable.]

You're too short! And slow! And I already took it!!!

I'm short and and I'm wise and I got a magic arm! And you're up a tree! Who's the real winner here?

[ actual fuckin babies yeah this is a real thing. ]

[He puffs up his cheeks, indignant.]

[Well, at least Merle knows how long ago this attitude started. The problem is they're now at a stalemate- his broom is in a tree, guarded by a (likely bitey) elf kid.

If Merle remembers he can call it back to him Taako will be beyond pissed.]
