Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

Whaaa? You mean you don't think the fam back home is gonna be interested in how you got kidnapped into a parallel universe where your emotions have deity personifications and ask you to fight killer robots for them?

[The words tumble out of his mouth very drunkenly, and despite his goofy smile, they are dripping with sarcastic cynicism.]

Sounds like a fun guy. [Kiran shrugs and flashes her a grin before continuing to eat. The food is actually pretty damn good. He doesn't regret taking as much as he did.

After a few more bites he continues the conversation.] So you, like... lived with him then, if he was cooking for you all the time? He sounds more like your dad or something than a doctor.

I wouldn't have anyone to tell, anyway.

[ Whoops, he doesn't mean for that to come out; can't even blame it on the drink since he's barely had any. ]

No one that'd believe it, I mean.

[ Okay, that should cover his ass. Plus, Kiran seems pretty tipsy, at the very least, so he can probably get away with it. ]

[She blushes just a bit, aware of how considerate the other woman is being. She's also just really pretty? This is Alphys' equivalent of I saw a woman so beautiful I started crying, except she has pocket burgers instead of lunch money.]

Oh, it's f-fine! I already, uh, packed some up for later.

[There's like a whole bucket of them in the fridge at her apartment. She is unstoppable.]

[Aw yeah, gonna get drunk with an elf lady. Sometimes, Hadriel is pretty okay. This conversation is going pretty okay too. He follows her along and takes a deep breath and long sigh.]

It's okay, I think there's plenty. And hey, let's not lie to ourselves... I won't be devastated if everyone else misses out. Ya know? [he shrugs and finishes what's left in his glass as they walk.]

He was fun. A kind of formal fun.

  [When he wasn't killing anyone, or manipulating her to kill.  And a part of her even misses that.] 

I did.  I lived with him for about a year back home.   And a few months here before he disappeared.   Yeah, he was like a dad.  He became my guardian after my parents died.

I'm sure he is. I don't think I wold mind so much, I just never really learned how.

For a little while, yeah. Since I made it through to the end, figured I'd celebrate.

[She won't get a second one, though, because she wants to save room to try a little of everything.]

I wouldn't mind hearing about some of those adventures.

I don't know if the world needs perfection. To get better, sure. Everywhere can use that. But I don't know 'bout perfect.

[It reminds her of what she heard Party say once. Would you destroy Something perfect in order to make it beautiful? She sees rigidity in the idea of perfection. She sees a loss of the human error that made life worth living.

She smiles slightly when he turns his gaze away, amused by the look he gives the flowers. Girl has little experience with love, but some parts of seeing it still rings nice.]

I'm totally an adult. [She waves off the question.] But 'm not gonna go hit on some old person and that's a lot of the folks here. If I want someone, they ought to be a lil' more my age. And that's just sayin' I even wa- wait. What do you mean we're not talkin' 'bout the same thing?

Like candy that's been dropped in sand? [She has very limited experience when types of food or flavor.] Give it a few minutes. Not everything makes you sick right off the bat.

[She gives a brief flash of a crooked smile.] You like hearin' stories? I think a lotta the ones I got are best saved for nights and campfires. But I got plenty I don't mind sharin', just depends on what you wanna hear.

I bet a lot of people would like that.

[He's not really the party type, and is mostly here for the free food, but that doesn't mean she's had a bad idea.]

Especially if they could drink.

He was a bit of a wild one - always was! It's not quite the lifestyle I would have chosen.

[ He wrinkles up his nose. Granted he's used to the over processed, barely-meat products in the Bat City stores, but he's also smelled blood, and it was different than this.

[ It's the inaction and helplessness that's been fucking with his head the most. She might've been the bomb, but he knows they're all getting ready to explode, one day.

But, right now, there's this to deal with.

He makes a face and grunts in vague disgust.]

They can suck bags of dusty dicks.

[ With that, he rubs at his nose and gives the tables a look. So many different dishes, different smells, colors, shapes. So many things he can't identify, some that look less than food, sometimes.]

Still feelin' like a trap.

[ But that might just be his default paranoia.]

[ Oh, Party's familiar with blood, just not so much of it. And definitely not presented like a particularly smelly bowl of punch.

[ He twists his nose, glancing at Edgar then into the bowl again. Despite his expression, he leans to take a closer look, though the smell, somehow intensified by the acknowledgement that that sure is what it is, seems a lot worse all of a sudden.]

Exactly! It was a home for unfortunate books. [ And now he is really laughing, remembering scouring the shelves for old treatises on forging and the history of metalwork. ]

I saw some of those old manuscripts! From back when they were just inventing the art of making parchment, and the runes were not yet developed to the degree that they were in Atar's time -- before he invented the Elven-script. . .

Say, do you think he maybe invented the script letters so he wouldn't have to crane his neck and wreck his eyes reading that awful old rectilinear style?

[It's scary and can be mean, but-- it gave her a second chance. A real one, to do better.]

I guess it's easier to love when it's, uhm, all p-pretty like this.

[Wow Edgar, you really know how to play 'em. Taako's smile is wide and toothy, letting his hair stay over his shoulder with the end of it tied down at his thigh.]

Can't believe you haven't heard of me, frankly. Seeing as uh, I'm Taako? You know, from TV? Practically a household name in any plane.

[He does raise an eyebrow at the thought of tricks, though, enjoying that for once he's actually got the height advantage in this situation. Oh, tricks are the least of his repitoire.]

Besides, you wanna talk about tricks. Please. Probably been workin' on my biz longer than you've been alive.

[He reaches forward, brushing his fingers against Edgar's chin and leaning towards his face.]
