Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

If they're that annoying, killing them off first would make finding a way to leave easier.

And you're not the first to assume that. Thing is, if they die, we not only lose any hope of access to the Door that brought us here, our food and power supply goes with them. [They could probably make a go of it for a while, but Rey would rather not be stuck on this planet if she can help it. The cave was better than this.]

That doesn't account for those who don't actually want to go back to where they came from, either.

You've all allowed yourself to be completely dependent on them. There has to be something here that they don't control.

[His tone may suggest that you're being blamed for that particular injustice.]

You have every reason not to trust them, but you're still eating their food.

[circumitus]

[Wow, excuse me, princess.]

Not all of us. Some of us have actually made efforts to depend on them less than others.

What they don't control is us. Just because they can manipulate people's emotions and perceptions doesn't mean they have control over our free will. They don't know shit about how we work -- they still keep referring to everyone here as "humans", and that has worked against them.

Honestly, they're the least of our worries, anyway. [le sip.]

[Kaiba couldn't disagree with anything she'd said. Even if he was new to these particular "gods", she was repeating his own philosophy.]

The 'monsters' and animals outside of town.

[Stares off towards the edges of the town as though sizing them up.]

With the right technology all of the problems could be resolved at once. Is there anything here more advanced than the copper age?

[circumitus]

No, not them, but they've got their uses.

[Rey appreciates having something she can kill and eat, when something comes along that's actually edible.

[She pauses to think.] The Null that the gods are running from, probably. There are parts of them and some tech at the science lab. [Her eyes narrow.] Just don't be a dick to Alphys; she's already got enough issues as it is.

[allthecards]

[Perks up at the idea of a science lab. Rey now has his full attention.]

Who is Alphys? Is it her lab?

[circumitus]

Yes. She's got a computer and parts from the Null, if playing around with a bunch of robot corpses is your thing.

[Rey's not going to judge.]

[allthecards]

[If it came from a Null, that means he could get more parts. For the first time in their conversation, his lips twitched into a smile. And not a particularly nice one.]

It helps to not anthropomorphize them.

[circumitus]

[Her eyes narrow at that response. That hits a little close to home, man.]

Well, they did apparently start out as organics before they turned themselves into machines, so that's a little different.

[allthecards]

[Well that complicated things. At least needing to worry about others' reactions to harvesting or using the parts.]

Hn. The sentience debate. If they're already dead, it's not like they can care.

[circumitus]

Not really much left to debate as far as some worlds are concerned.

[Okay that's a lie, but she will fight over Nick's personhood to the death despite how he looks.]

Still, the bastards were trying to kill us the last time they attacked -- even went after kids. Doubt you'll find much opposition here.

[allthecards]

[Just nods in understanding. He was going to do what he wanted with any Nulls he found anyway.

Still this woman had been helpful and he was networking]

You have a lot of experience with this world. I haven't caught your name yet.

[circumitus]

[Rey is hardly about to be a paragon for the Null and stop him because ~ethics~ or whatever. She's not even buying that cute little infected robot that's been taking advantage of the resident bleeding hearts by claiming it wants to be "friends". Such bullshit.]

You tend to get experience after two years if your head's not stuck up your ass. [And she likes to think that hers totally isn't.] And the name's Rey.

[No handshakes, only drinking.]

[Good, he doesn't want to touch her either.]

So Alphys has a lab. Anyone else without their heads up their asses I should know about?

[circumitus]

[People have cooties. Gross, gross cooties. Especially stuffy rich kids.]

Some would probably argue about the Guard, but it's run by good people and they tend to keep track of the shit that goes on here. [Flatly:] And they're not law enforcement, no matter what some assholes here would have you believe.

[Because she's really sick of hearing others getting the wrong idea.]

The best of the gods to get answers from is Sorrow, once he's back in commission.

[Better a stuffy rich kid, than an uncultured slob.

Nods along to show understanding. So a group of do-gooders who would protect people, but some will likely try to play policeman without authority.]

Assuming you can trust the answers from any of these 'gods.'

[circumitus]

[She sighs, rolling her eyes.]

Most of what they've said has added up over the years. You'd be more pressed to worry about what they don't tell you rather than flat out lying.

[Rey can't even recall if Delight technically outright lied to them before she betrayed their own. Maybe to the other gods, sure.]

[allthecards]

What makes Sorrow so useful? Sounds like he'd be useless.

[It all sounds stupid, but he's not giving up any potential advantage]

[circumitus]

He's straightforward and pragmatic, for one thing. [Qualities alone that Rey can respect.] He is also the one most willing to be reasoned with.

And he knows more about the Door that brought everyone here than anyone else.

[allthecards]

[Nods. He can respect those qualities as well. Though the bit about the door is far more interesting. Not that you'd know by his lack of outward reaction.]

Hn. Good to know.

[circumitus]

[Good thing she doesn't need to read expressions to keep up.]

They're all useful to some degree, honestly.

Well, save for Love, of course. And Delight, because her backstabbing ass is in the brig or whatever they have here. [Forever hating Love and traitors, that's Rey.]

[He still doubts the amount of use any of the gods could be. They were firmly in the enemy camp for having brought him and his brother here.

That mention of Delight was new information. Backstabbed who? The humans? It couldn't be backstabbing if they were already against them. Against the other gods? That could be much more interesting.]

Backstabbing? Explain.

[circumitus]

[Some would see it that way, sure. Rey's been around long enough that it's hard to resent the gods for giving her and others who have nothing to go back to another chance. Those who actually have lives or aren't about to be eviscerated, though? Probably not going to be as stoked to be here.]

Guess she'd been leaking info to the Null for a long time. She seemed to think that her species would be better off if she just snuffed Hope and give the rest of them up to be energy slaves or whatever.

[No doubt Delight thought she was doing the right thing, but most would disagree. Rey included.]

[If that was Delight's only goal, then she wouldn't be a potential ally either. No, all this was doing was confirming what he already knew: the only side to be on was his own. The gods were the enemy, even their traitor wouldn't be useful, their enemies were murderers, and the other captives were all idiots or barbarians No offense Rey.]
