Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th
Warnings: Stealth Rock

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

It is not something done, amongst my folk, and I cannot understand why any would deliberately chose to do so, although I know it happens accidentally sometimes, amongst Men.

[swiftlet]

Some hara are cruel. I've seen that firsthand. Other times it truly is because they know somehar else can do better. Give their harling a better chance in their life than they could.

[bythewaves]

One would argue if you thought you couldn't do that for your child, that it would be better not to bring a child into the world at all! But what's done is done, I suppose. All anyone can do is make the best of it.

[swiftlet]

Knowing my father, I'm not entirely certain it was entirely Cal's choice. But I see your point.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor winces ]

Ai! I will never understand how other races can do that sort of thing. Then again, we have Eol. [ Who will have the entire family lined up to punch him in the face if he ever shows up in Hadriel. Or... anywhere, really ]

[swiftlet]

He was worse to Cobweb. Cal at least knew what was happening, maybe he even expected he would have to give Terzian a harling. Cobweb had no idea I was coming until I did and I nearly killed him.

[bythewaves]

[ A low growl ]

Rape? And here Seel likes to think you are better than humanity.

[swiftlet]

No. Not that time, at least, though Terzian did his fair share of that before his end. Cobweb went willingly, but he was a boy, once. Terzian didn't bother to tell him what was happening.

We aren't. We pretend we are, but we've our own monsters. Maybe even worse ones than humanity had.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor hisses ]

The more I learn, the more I dislike him. Even Eol did not rape, although how bespelled Aredhel was is up for debate.

[swiftlet]

You're not the only one. I'm sure the world breathes easier now knowing he's dead.

[bythewaves]

Good [ He says with grim satisfaction ]

I am glad you are free of him.

[swiftlet]

So am I. Terzian was not a kind har and he wanted me to be like him. Only he underestimated Cobweb's strength.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor reaches out to tuck a strand of hair back ]

I'm glad. You deserve better.

[swiftlet]

He's gone now, at least. And I can't say I'm unhappy about that.

[bythewaves]

Nor I, by the sounds of things. I am glad you had those around you who could help.

[swiftlet]

Few enough of them, but I suppose it was enough.

Better some than none! Which, by the sounds of things, is at least partially the issue with Seel.

[swiftlet]

[Sigh]

I think he believes that, though I'm not certain how true it is.

[bythewaves]

What matters is that he does belive it. [ Maglor says practically ]

It would not affect him so badly if he did not.

[swiftlet]

I know. I'm just not sure how to make him believe anything else. I've tried for 30 years.

[bythewaves]

It might be more practical to leave behind the past to address his present. You are here now - and you are not leaving, eh?

[swiftlet]

Not so long as I have a say in it.

[bythewaves]

Good. [ Maglor smiles at him fondly ]

Try not to dwell too long in the past with him. Draw him into the now.

[swiftlet]

That's far easier said than done. He's lived so long in the past, I'm not sure he knows how to be any other way.

[bythewaves]

It's always hard. [ Maglor nods ]

But one day at a time.
