Intro Log: Fly, My Pretties!

What: The intro log for May
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: May 10th-14th
Warnings: Flying monkeys! New friends! Prosthetic limbs!

Here in Hadriel, we do introductions right. That means dumping you on the ground of an old Roman-style Colosseum with a bunch of scary monsters and also a bunch of weird shit. Your monster of the day happens to be Winged Monkeys, more commonly known as flying monkeys, from the Wizard of Oz and affiliated stories!

As you may have been able to guess, these creatures can fly and they're rather intelligent- intelligent enough to wield spears and daggers as crude weapons and strong enough to pick someone right up off the ground and fly with them to a perch, where they'll... you know, stab them with their knives and stuff.

Why? We don't know. It's Hadriel.

Just in case you lose a couple of limbs in the process of escaping these critters, we've got you covered. Scattered around the newbies are prosthetic limbs for various body parts. These limbs are all fully functional, even if they look a bit... odd, so if you've lost an arm or two, or a leg, or even a pinkie finger, feel free to grab one and try to figure out how to use it!

Good job dealing with those monkeys! It's kind of a weird thing to be threatening, but clearly someone was afraid of them once. Once you're done, you can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

So you're from the future. Have we gotten flying cars yet?

Was it any good?

[she rarely went to movies when she was in London, her ex-boyfriend Dan was far more into the theatre and opera. Jane hated both things]

Didn't see it. Had too much going on.

[A little shake of his head.]

Okay, so, we're being brought here from different points in time as well as different worlds. I guess there's no knowing if your Earth is even my Earth.

[myrealname]

What kind of much is too much?

[she watches him curiously]

Multiple Earths. That's a brain-twister if ever I heard one. And I guess there's no way of telling if your Earth is my Earth because all of the stuff that's current to me is old news for you.

[magician_king]

You know. Job changes, relationship things.

[Creating mini universes in the attic, returning an ex from the dead.]

You can't always get to the movies. How are you settling in here?

[myrealname]

...oh. Yeah. That can be rough.

[UNDERSTATEMENT. not a lie, but an understatement.

she shrugs] I was expecting the baggage claim at Laguardia, but got a sci-fi novel instead. How about you?

I was in an orchard.

[Which meant quite a shock.]

What the hell, seriously, right? Have you read through the intro they've got on the network?

[myrealname]

Wow. So a big change in the scenery, huh?

[since it looks like someone built this town in the middle of Death Valley]

I have. It's crazy. Gods of emotions wanting to feed on us? Being hunted by homicidal robots? None of it seems real.

[magician_king]

I've travelled between worlds before.

[He admits, glancing over his shoulder at the door, the world out there.]

But thi sis one of the odder ones.

What? No way! How does that work?

[she follows his gaze. the view doesn't get any less strange]

What counts as weirder than this?

[magician_king]

Talking bears was pretty weird. A whole planet that's just a library. Oh- fuck, a sub reality that was a giant highschool gymnasium with only half the lights on. Polished wood floors with intersecting court lines in an incoherent tangle, and everyone who lived there dressed in the same white pyjamas, never eating, never sleeping, never dying.

[Jane kind of. gapes for a minute. don't mind her, the concept of other worlds is still very new to her. she's from 2004. they don't even have iPhones yet]

That last one sounds really unpleasant.

[magician_king]

It was beyond fucked.

But this is just as strange, in some ways. A weird blend of high tech and apparent magic.

[myrealname]

Both of it's weird to me. This phone? [she pulls hers out of her pocket] It's a lot cooler than the cell phones back home. And I didn't even know magic was a thing.

[magician_king]

Yeah, it is in some worlds. I don't think all, but there's no way to be sure, because the community keeps to itself.

We have phones like this by my time. So that's around the corner for you.

[myrealname]

Smart. If people knew that other people could do magic, they'd be hassled all the time. "Do this for me, do that for me, make this person love me."

I guess so? I don't usually think too far in the future, I just take things as they come.

[magician_king]

Well, shit's about to get weird, so I'd probably work on a medium term strategy. This isn't a wave you should just ride.

[myrealname]

Shit's already weird. But I'll adapt. I always do.

Hey, wanna go exploring?

[magician_king]

Yeah, definitely.

[Brightly, going to grab the door. He can find a place to sleep later.]

What have you seen so far?

Great!

[she follows him to the door]

I haven't seen much of anywhere besides here and the arena and I'd like to pretend that I never saw the arena. How about you?

[magician_king]

I went and saw one of the temples, but there wasn't much to see there.

Let's figure out where and how people get food?

[myrealname]

Yeah, I went to one of the temples, too. It made me feel shitty, so I left.

Smart. We're gonna need to know that if we're going to be here a while.

[magician_king]

I hear something about stores?

[Holding the stairwell door open to her.]

Stores? Thank fuck. I was afraid we'd be stuck with the barter system or making everything ourselves.
