What: The intro log for May
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: May 10th-14th
Warnings: Flying monkeys! New friends! Prosthetic limbs!

Here in Hadriel, we do introductions right. That means dumping you on the ground of an old Roman-style Colosseum with a bunch of scary monsters and also a bunch of weird shit. Your monster of the day happens to be Winged Monkeys, more commonly known as flying monkeys, from the Wizard of Oz and affiliated stories!

As you may have been able to guess, these creatures can fly and they're rather intelligent- intelligent enough to wield spears and daggers as crude weapons and strong enough to pick someone right up off the ground and fly with them to a perch, where they'll... you know, stab them with their knives and stuff.

Why? We don't know. It's Hadriel.

Just in case you lose a couple of limbs in the process of escaping these critters, we've got you covered. Scattered around the newbies are prosthetic limbs for various body parts. These limbs are all fully functional, even if they look a bit... odd, so if you've lost an arm or two, or a leg, or even a pinkie finger, feel free to grab one and try to figure out how to use it!

Good job dealing with those monkeys! It's kind of a weird thing to be threatening, but clearly someone was afraid of them once. Once you're done, you can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

Mm, it's... a little too close to war for comfort. Have to get into the mindset of being ready to decide who is expendable, and sacrifice them. Always hated that shit.

You had to do that back home? Decide who was expendable?

[To put it mildly, more or less. Intimacy issues up the wazoo with this one, right here.]

Sort of. Was usually the expendable one, though, being able to die and come back and all.

[she'd get it. she has intimacy issues of her own. meaningless sex is fine, but if there are supposed to be feelings involved? Laura doesn't know how to cope with that.

So? Just because you can be brought back to life after being killed, it shouldn't mean that you're expendable.

[Rey has way too many hangups to even bring herself to try meaningless. She's tried, and it ended in a panic attack.

[She should be touched by Laura's outrage, but Rey just sighs.]

Just telling you how it was. The asshole who put me in that position is dead now, so. No more of that.

[that's a good reason to not try meaningless sex, yes.

Good. I'm glad he's dead.

Well, guess he's about as dead as a machine can be...

[Gregory had died plenty of times, but she is pretty sure that last one was as final as it can get for a synthetic.]

I hope that means extremely dead.

You could say that. But whatever, I'm over it.

...I guess it's better to be over it than hold a grudge.

Sometimes. Just don't see the point in crying about how unfair it all is.

Besides, what happened between us was... complicated. He had reason to hate me so strongly.

[Hell, Rey hated herself enough to think she should have continued to endure it for a long time.]

Complicated. Why does it always have to be complicated?

[hated? past tense?]

Because not everything is as simple as "he was a bad man and got what he deserved". Sure, there are a lot of people out there who would be largely improved by a lead salad or two or more. Sometimes you do some phenomenally shitty things to people, but if that was always enough to earn you the capital punishment, I'd be long gone by now.

[It's hard to judge someone who controlled her life for so long when there are so many lives Rey has ruined, herself.]

[this throws Laura. she's used to operating under very black and white theories of morality. you're either good, or you're not. that was how Daytime Laura (the good girl, the homecoming queen, the perfect daughter) and Nighttime Laura (the prostitute, the cocaine addict, the party girl) was born. add in her experiences with BOB and you don't have much room for nuance. despite the fact that she's done some incredibly shitty things to other people herself]

...okay. Sorry. Hadn't really thought of it that way.
