What: The intro log for May
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: May 10th-14th
Warnings: Flying monkeys! New friends! Prosthetic limbs!

Here in Hadriel, we do introductions right. That means dumping you on the ground of an old Roman-style Colosseum with a bunch of scary monsters and also a bunch of weird shit. Your monster of the day happens to be Winged Monkeys, more commonly known as flying monkeys, from the Wizard of Oz and affiliated stories!

As you may have been able to guess, these creatures can fly and they're rather intelligent- intelligent enough to wield spears and daggers as crude weapons and strong enough to pick someone right up off the ground and fly with them to a perch, where they'll... you know, stab them with their knives and stuff.

Why? We don't know. It's Hadriel.

Just in case you lose a couple of limbs in the process of escaping these critters, we've got you covered. Scattered around the newbies are prosthetic limbs for various body parts. These limbs are all fully functional, even if they look a bit... odd, so if you've lost an arm or two, or a leg, or even a pinkie finger, feel free to grab one and try to figure out how to use it!

Good job dealing with those monkeys! It's kind of a weird thing to be threatening, but clearly someone was afraid of them once. Once you're done, you can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

Oh shit.

[Lup follows after her, slowing her usual quick pace down so that they are walking at the same speed. What can she say? This woman interests her.]

Another doctor, huh. Just what this place needs. What's your field? Cuz just between us, I think Lance would break down crying if another psych popped in. That boy's always on call.

I'm Lup, bee-tee-dubs. Pleasure an' all that.

I do surgery and general practice, so no, no psychology involved. Imagining myself as a therapist is a good laugh, though.

[Imagining her seeing a therapist is already laughable enough.]

Maybe if this Lance is lucky I'll charge him a fee to let him complain to me about it, though. I'm open to expanding the business, so to speak.

[Cause it sounds like Lance might need a therapist of his own, honestly.]

[It's enough to leave Lup snorting with laughter while she leads the other woman towards the entrance of the arena, finally out of reach of the monkey menace.]

Honestly, he could probs use it. Don't know how the guy hasn't lost it big time with all the complainin' he hears daily. [Lup can barely handle her twin moping around, she doesn't want to think of what she'd be like with strangers.]

That other stuff isn't bad to have around though. Pretty sure the clinic would love to snap you up.

I'd love to be snapped up. Medicine's basically all I do. Pretty shorthanded back home, to put it mildly.

[Not that she doesn't also find plenty of time to manipulate fledgling Destroyers into dismantling the power of the gods, but you know. Details.]

And honestly, I think all therapists are driven to madness by the time they've got a few patients under their belt. I don't envy him.

Dunk. I'll give my pal Kate a call an' hook you up. Lookit you! Two seconds out of the arena an' you've already locked down some full-time employment. I'd say you are doin' way better than most of the newbies here.

[Considering they are close enough to the colosseum to still hear some of the newcomers screaming, yeah, sounds about right.]

[The backdrop of screams certainly punctuates the thought, and Avisheh laughs, because their misfortune just so happened to be funny at the moment.]

Job security. People always need doctors.

[It'll be her problem later, probably, when she's cleaning out monkey bites and cursing the lack of vaccines.]

I figured it'd be necessary the second I touched down here. You know, what with all the monsters. And people, people tend to cause plenty of problems for each other as well.

[Lup lets her mouth curl into a grin, though she doesn't laugh along to the background of screams. The monkeys aren't that big of a threat, not compared to some of the monsters the door has brought through, but the thought of innocent folks being hurt has never really sat well with the woman. Once they part ways, she'll probably hit the arena again, just to save a few of the newbies having trouble slipping away from their tormentors.]

They sure do, though you'll find out quick enough it's the liches in charge who make most of the problems in this place.

Is "lich" a cute swear word where you're from? I'm not familiar.

[Her fantasy world of origin was a little less high fantasy.]

What do they do, anyway? Are they the ones transporting people?

We call the dicks who brought us here liches. They're, uh - [Lup's had this conversation so many times she really should be better prepared for it, but honestly, she just wants to give the condensed version and move on to trash talking the gods in charge.]

They suck up strong emotions. Y'know, slurp it down like soup, it's how they sustain themselves. Kinda similar to the liches that exist where I'm from. Well, the shitty ones, at least.

And yeah, they're the ones in charge of dragging folks in and sending them away. They do whatever they can to keep us all on our toes.

[Avisheh takes a deep breath. Welp.]

Fine. Liches it is. I'll pretend it's a cute swear word, too. Lemme guess, they try to make us feel things now that we're here to sustain them.

[That sounds fun, only like, the opposite. Ugh.]
