Intro Log: Fly, My Pretties!

What: The intro log for May
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: May 10th-14th
Warnings: Flying monkeys! New friends! Prosthetic limbs!

Here in Hadriel, we do introductions right. That means dumping you on the ground of an old Roman-style Colosseum with a bunch of scary monsters and also a bunch of weird shit. Your monster of the day happens to be Winged Monkeys, more commonly known as flying monkeys, from the Wizard of Oz and affiliated stories!

As you may have been able to guess, these creatures can fly and they're rather intelligent- intelligent enough to wield spears and daggers as crude weapons and strong enough to pick someone right up off the ground and fly with them to a perch, where they'll... you know, stab them with their knives and stuff.

Why? We don't know. It's Hadriel.

Just in case you lose a couple of limbs in the process of escaping these critters, we've got you covered. Scattered around the newbies are prosthetic limbs for various body parts. These limbs are all fully functional, even if they look a bit... odd, so if you've lost an arm or two, or a leg, or even a pinkie finger, feel free to grab one and try to figure out how to use it!

Good job dealing with those monkeys! It's kind of a weird thing to be threatening, but clearly someone was afraid of them once. Once you're done, you can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[Twenty-four seven, although that doesn't always work depending on the planet she's on... Not that she minds, really. Carolina does give a nod.]

Where I'm from, soldiers go to other countries, not planets.

What century are you from? Twenty-fifth for me.

[Which might explain some things. Although she also knows that not all planets are the same. Perhaps whenever she is from, they never achieved space travel.]

21st for me. 2004 to be exact. Tell me something, did the US ever get a president who didn't suck?

[they managed the usual Earth space achievements. hers is a very normal kind of Earth. no one has superpowers or magic and the supernatural doesn't exist]

I honestly couldn't even tell you... Politics has changed, at least in the scope of size. There was the Unified Earth Government. Now, UNSC- United Nations Space Command.

[Which is a lot of information in a few sentences.]

[she smiles and shakes her head in amazement]

That all sounds like something outta "Star Trek." No offense.

[uptightness]

None taken. I suppose it does sound pretty far-fetched. I've lived it and some parts even I question.

[She hasn't even spoken of any of the other parts that she's lived.]

Yeah? Like what?

Uh.

[A laugh.]

Alien races and temples? Check. Alien technology? Check. Plots to destroy Earth? Check.

[a grin slowly spreads over Jane's face]

No. Way. Seriously? Damn. You must be badass.

[uptightness]

[A low huff.]

Pretty badass sometimes, yes.

[she's giving her a frankly admiring look]

Only sometimes?

[uptightness]

[We're not going to talk about the moments that she's had... Like getting trapped in her armor. Or getting a knife in her leg. Or her lame attempt at a joke when starting out...]

Even I have to sleep.

[no, those sound like much less cheerful stories and after the twenty-four hours Jane has had, she'd prefer cheerful stories.

she laughs] Yeah, even badasses have to sleep. Though, how does that Chuck Norris fact go? "He doesn't sleep, he waits?"

[uptightness]

[It isn't a phrase that Carolina is familiar with, but it still earns a huffed laugh from her. She has gone long periods of time without sleep, but she doesn't recommend it. Heck, sometimes it hasn't even been on purpose but out of necessity.]

I'll have to remember that one.

[she got a laugh! good. and Jane has gone through nights with no sleep, either, usually because she was working, then went home to wonder what she did to drive Dan away]

You should. It suits you.

[They'd have that in common, being kept up late for work, although the nature of the work is what would drastically differ between the two of them.

She does still like to keep the Blues on their toes. Wash gets it. It's not like he's sat back and gotten a beer gut since being here. Tucker and Epsilon... Are hit and miss. Sometimes it takes a good shove to get them in the right direction.]

I'll have to let you know how well it goes over.

[Because she may or may not whisper that in to either of their ears when they're being particularly disruptive.]

[yes, their jobs are polar opposites, but it's still nice to find some common ground.

she'd enjoy watching Carolina order the Blues around. seeing grown-ass tough guys scampering to obey her commands]

Definitely. We'll hang out, have coffee, and you can fill me in. They do have coffee here, right?

How about I show you the Speakeasy one day.

[Not that she was the type that ran around and drank, but sometimes, it was needed.]

[Jane usually avoided partaking in large amounts of alcohol herself. it tended to loosen her tongue and for someone who's spent the last four years in a web of lies, that was to be avoided. here, she's not so sure she can keep up the identity of "Alice Ayres"]

Give me a call when you've settled in, and I'll pick you up.

[Which is more casual than anything else from Carolina. It makes sense. She's been around the land more than she has, so she'd likely get to her and then get them to the Speakeasy simply enough.]

[Jane feels a little flutter of excitement in her tummy. she's looking forward to this in a way she doesn't usually look forward to doing things with women. Jane doesn't even really have female friends. but this could be different]

[That nod is given as an affirmative to her words. She's certainly talked to others since coming here but she hasn't exactly made any plans to meet up. Then again, she's still working on the whole more social and less 'intense'.

Her gaze shifts back to her.]

[and she's working through the pain of the end of a four year relationship. one that would've lasted forever if Dan had known to leave well enough alone]

[A curt nod, which is more from her training than anything towards her.]
