Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

► This log covers May 27th-June 10th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you drown or get eaten by an alien shark, let us know here.

The lead on the Door is obviously useful and she won't deny it, and so she nods along at his reply. She's just mad for personal, emotional reasons. If this gets her back home sooner, it will have been worth the reminder of the suffering she had gone through. That wasn't really her, that was another person's life. None of it matters now.

But she rolls her eyes at his question. "Have you ever tried to fight in water? Or what if we need to flee? It limits our options. I can swim, sure, but not as quickly. And who knows what lives in there."

The first thing that passed through Kelson's mind when he saw her was that at least her skin was covered this time. He was slowly getting used to seeing the miss match of different cultures, although perhaps varying the individuals he talked too would help with that. He still didn't understand the need for some people to show so much skin, but as he had been reminded multiple times, he was no longer in Gwynedd. Maybe this experience would make him a better king.

Not commenting on her choice of dress, instead he sat down beside her, careful to keep his legs dry, however.

" Someone back home?" The new atmosphere didn't remind him of anyone in particular but her words brought him back and he tried to keep his own sadness out of his voice.

"You look cold, my lady." He was 95% sure she was not actually a lady, but he didn't want to be rude.

"Yeah. He was here for a while, but he left." She was still mad about that. As if the first time wasn't enough. The cost of being popular. Or infamous. Whichever. "He'd have really liked the water. He could have taken some people between the islands, too, and we could really use that." Sure there was Nico, but she wasn't going to risk Will's wrath tiring him out.

"I'll live. Being cold is so far down the list of bad things that can happen to me, I'm not even concerned."

[personal profile] kingforboth 2018-05-28 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe it was his imagination, or a cultural difference....but she seemed angry about him leaving. Going home he presumed. "Then perhaps enjoy the water for both of you. Forgive me if this is presumptive but you seem angry that he was able to escape, or be sent home."

Kelson didn't understand. He would give anything to see any number of people from his kingdom again, Morgan, Duncan. Rothana. God, Rothana. Or to see his father one more day, even just a day, for any of them. Maybe it was different for her. Maybe the pain was too much.

As for being cold, he wished he had another layer he could give her.

"It's just...not the first time he's been sent somewhere else and I can't get to him. I mean, I think I know where he is and I'd rather he stay safe there if he can but being alone is not my first choice anymore." Sigh. Why was she even saying that to him? Percy wasn't here and they'd all just have to learn to live without him. Maybe they'd even get boats eventually and they wouldn't need someone who could swim people back and forth.

"Sorry. I shouldn't dump all that on you."

[even sensing the movement beside him, her voice still takes him by surprise, he's that distracted]

Oh. Caedra-ya. [hey gurl hey] It's not what I see, but what I sense. Life. [he tips his chin in a nod toward the sea in front of him] There's more out there than there was anywhere in our last location. Huge sea creatures, I can feel them.

Kelson thought he understood at least. He'd had to send men on quests, missions, off to war, and each one of them left someone important behind. Including him. He'd even been the one 'stuck' on occasion, being told he couldn't go and do what he wanted too, not yet. Waiting was hard, especially when you were separated from the people you cared about and the duty you wanted to do. Kelson was not particularly good at waiting.

"It's never easy. Especially when you are stuck somewhere and you can't act as you wanted too. I understand. I wish I didn't." Kelson shook his head. "No, despite everything I am happy I understand. It's a good thing to know."

He looked a little puzzled at her last sentence. Something there didn't parse correctly. "I don't understand. Do you feel faint?" He brought his hands up in case she needed assistance.

Really? You can feel that?

[Not that she disbelieves him. It's actually pretty fascinating. He is often just so full of surprises.]

This must have been the one you wanted the most out of our options, hm?

[personal profile] yearrounder 2018-05-29 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Sorry." She wasn't stupid, she knew other people felt the same way she did sometimes, but she also knew that she needed to be reminded of that from time to time. She tended to get lost in her own head. And she was bad at feelings anyway.

"Huh? No. I'm not even moving. Besides, this is easy. There isn't even any lava." She kind of wished there was, weirdly. At least she could have something to do, even if it was as mindless as the climbing wall. "I'm just sorry I, uh, said all of that. You probably don't want to deal with all of that."
kingforboth: (stare)

[personal profile] kingforboth 2018-05-29 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps she needed a priest. If one ever came through the door that he actually trusted, he'd suggest he talk to her. There seemed to be a number of people here who might benefit from the right clergy. Or perhaps he was using them as a crutch again. Alfred was right, he needed to learn to commune with God without one of them. Waiting certainly wasn't doing anything.

Wasn't magic just another method of prayer? Another way of celebrating the divine? Kelson wished he had asked that to one of the few Deryni priests he knew when he had still the chance. Now he had to work it out for himself.

Which was the point, wasn't it?

"Lava." Kelson repeated the very unfamiliar word, struck out of his reverie and thought for the moment, still concerned she might pass out. "It's alright. Back in Gwynedd, listening and solving people's problems is my job. Although, as has been often pointed out, I am not in Gwynedd anymore. But that doesn't mean I can't listen."
yearrounder: (Question)

[personal profile] yearrounder 2018-05-29 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
She stared at him for a moment, grey eyes almost as stormy as the water beneath them. What was she even supposed to say to that? Somehow "sorry but I don't talk to strangers about feelings" seemed like it wouldn't go over well. And she was in a great position to get pushed off a cliff if she insulted someone too much. Not that she thought he was the type, but she hadn't lived this long without being a little paranoid.

"There really isn't a solution. I'm here and he's there. It's not the first time it's happened and we both survived. I'm not happy about it, but I can take care of myself and he can take care of himself. Besides, he has studying to do and I will never forgive him if he doesn't pass his exams."

A pause there, for a moment, as she seemed to realize she should probably try to be polite. He'd only offered to help, after all.

"Thanks, though."

West Island - all over

[Jo had seen Pell off and returned to the kitchen to work on lunch. She turns and the light in the room changes suddenly. It only takes her a moment to move to the window.

Clouds, instead of endless sun.]

That's a change. [Fear must have moved the city. Is this the ocean planet? She gathers her bag and steps outside, scanning the area. Not much changed outside that she can see...

But she heads to her left, grateful that she can find her way around again. Eventually she hits a cliff and stands there, staring out into the ocean.]

Damn. They really did it.

Yeah. More or less.

[is it that obvious? he glances toward her, the closest to genuinely happy he might have looked in the last year. It's still subtle, mostly a light in his gray eyes, but it's there.]

Well. I do want to learn more about the Null, and uncover whatever secrets the gods are hiding, but my first priority is the Door. Supposedly, out there somewhere is information relating to it. [out...there, yeah, across the waves] If so, we're going to need a ship to get to it.

[Lance hears her approaching, glancing over at her as she steps up beside him and links their arms, and offers a small smile and playful tug on her arm.]

I'll forgive you. This isn't so bad anyway; all the options kind of sucked, so let's just blame the gods for only giving us bad choices.

[He's quiet a moment before continuing.]

It's kind of cool, even if it's also really inconvenient.
abyssalarcana: (bury me beneath the trees)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-05-29 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Right, I recall hearing about that.

[She pauses, seemingly hesitant, but continues.]

I didn't want this place. I have my reasons, and they're not frivolous. But since we're here, we may as well make the most of every opportunity we get to find out about the Door.

If you get your hands on a ship, I'm coming with you.

[personal profile] lifetothefullest 2018-05-29 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
[Wow, okay, he cringes a little at the initial response, but considering it is Carlisle and he's doubtlessly quite stressed Lance is inclined to just brush the entire thing off even before the apology. After it, he even offers a small smile and steps a little closer, although the expression is short-lived considering the glowing eyes and just generally not-great look about Carlisle at the moment.]

It's okay, we're both pretty bedraggled, so I won't judge if you don't.

[Lance's own hair probably looks utterly ridiculous, considering it's gotten a little long and is naturally curly, and so actually even longer than it normally seems. With it all soaked it's kind of everywhere.

He wants to ask Carlisle more about how he's doing, especially since he's been meaning to for awhile now, but recognizes this may not be the best time. So, instead--]

Is there anything I can do to help with your plants?

Really. [well color him surprised] You'd take to the sea with me? All for the Door, I suppose.

[he does remember her pillow talk about urgently wanting to find and control the Door. It's the kind of goal that might make anyone set aside their distaste for the setting, isn't it?]

Not a fan of the ocean, then.

Yeah, they suck as usual.

[She grins at him, tugging back.]

Want to go swimming?
abyssalarcana: (I saw there a great abyss)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-05-29 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Of course for the Door.

[You tall dummy. Being stuck on a boat with one person, even him, is a recipe for disaster in her mind. That's more of a prison than this city is. But she's willing to put up with extended close quarters if she has to. It might be her only key to getting out of here - especially if being one of the first to find out important information means she gets control over how that information is used.

Though she smiles a little and shakes her head anyway. He's lucky he's so good in bed. At least it would make said close quarters a little more tolerable. And there's something attractive about the idea of sailing out to explore a new world.]

The ocean itself is fine. This sort of environment brings back unpleasant memories, though.

['Hesitant' is probably a very mild word for the expression Lance gives at that question, for multiple reasons.]

I'm not sure if that's exactly the safest thing to do.

[Who knows what's in the water, and just the water itself looks dangerous enough.]

[Lance's initial comment gets a soft smile out of Carlisle, the sheepish sort that says he's embarrassed about what just happened, but grateful for the doctor's forgiveness and willingness to quickly move past it.]

There is something you could do, actually. If you don't mind.

[He motions for Lance to join him beside what is presumably a bloodwort: the shrub stands about chest-high, the vines weighed down by both the red, bulbous fruits they bear and the rain gathering on the leaves. Carlisle kneels beside the base of the plant, pulling his hands from his gloves and pushing his sleeves past his wrists.]

See how the roots are coming up? We need to rebury them, then cover them with some of the rocks I have in that satchel I was carrying.

[He gestures to his bag, which sits over by one of the trees.]

This dirt has gotten so displaced from this move. I'd hate to lose one of these. Plant from back home and whatnot.

[ Curufin turns around. He's soaked, but not unhappy. Not far away is his boat-building shed, in a little clearing not far from the southern border of the woods, nearest the shoreline. There's a huge heap of lumber next to the shed, under a tarp. He's taking a break from working on the first of the two boats Henry suggested he build for starters. ]

"Sister, I'm better in water than I am on land, and I'm pretty fuckin' good there, too."

Underneath that lanky, 80s asshole glamour of his, he's a big ol' murderpotato, and he grew up literally living in his mom's basement at the bottom of a lake. Water, he can handle. If the Null try to take him on in the ocean, he'll wreck their asses harder than those hippies wrecked Woodstock.

"And we ain't gonna need to run if the Null don't look here at all. We'd be just as up shit creek, anyway, if we tried runnin' off on either of the other planets. People'd freeze on the iceball and get eaten or some shit in the jungle."

He shrugs with his one good shoulder. "Transport's gonna fuckin' suck for a while, yeah, but people've been usin' boats since forever. Shit'll get sorted."

She holds up a finger as he goes on, then immediately jumps in once he stops talking.

"First things first: I am not your 'sister'. Secondly, I don't care. This whole thing could have been easily averted if the assholes who pretend to be gods had used their heads at any point. I'm not here to fight their battles, and I don't care if the rest of you get yourselves killed."
