Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

Glad to hear it, brother!

If you were in the Orchard, then you're on the island to the east. What did you do when you found yourself here? [ He can guess, but he likes to hear Maglor talk. ]

I was in the Park. It was almost mid-morning, and Yukari came to the workshop to pry me away from my work and take a walk. Suddenly, everything was different! [ Softly ] I'm happy to smell the sea again and be within sound of the waves. I'm building a boat, so I expect I'll see you soon.

[bythewaves]

The sea called. [ Maglor says apologetically ]

I would like that. [ He hums happily ]

Ah, so you went wandering besides the waves. [ Smile ] Did you sing to the sea?

I'll try to finish the craft as soon as I can. I am eager to see you.

[ Maglor smiles back, still a little apologetic ]

And it to me. [ He nods, eyes lighting to hear that ]

I would like that. Are the others alright?

[ Maglor's smiles are heartening to Curufin, whatever kind they are. ]

The sea loves you, I think. And it is especially good if the sea of this world feels the same way!

I certainly hope they are all right. I have not heard from Maedhros, Fingon, or Cel. Have you?

[ He shrugs a little wryly ]

I don't know if this sea feels the same way. But certainly it does not seem to mind me.

[ For the first time, concern flicks through his eyes, driving back the ocean ]

No. I had not thought... they have not contacted you?

[ Smile ]

If it doesn't mind you, that's a start, isn't it? Play your harp at it, charm it!

[ Curufin is concerned too, needless to say! ]

They haven't. I've searched all over North Island; not finding them. If you've searched the East Island and are not finding them, then they must be on one of the other two. Wherever they are, I hope they're together. [ Sigh of anxiety ]

[bythewaves]

[ There are no ocean maia here to charm, but Maglor supposes that he can try? ]

Oh... I didn't even realise... how long has it been? [ COMMENCE FRETTING ]

[ None that we know of, anyway. Yeh, give it a try, Mags! XD ]

A couple of days. [ COMMENCE LIL BRO TRYING TO REASSURE BIG BRO ]

I didn't... I haven't noticed the days passing. [ He confesses ]

Nelyo must be worried... I hope they're alright...

I suppose you wouldn't. You do tend to fall into a trance when wandering by the sea, from what you have told me of your experiences in the Second and Third Ages. [ And who could blame him? How else to deal with being the last of them, and a wanderer in a strange era? ]

I wonder where they were when the change happened? It was around mid-morning, as I recall. If they were still at the house, then they must be on South Island. I know they have food, in that case, since we transported so much of the harvest to Delmar's Bakery, and that's now on the same island.

Still, I need to get that boat built fast! I'm just going to work straight through till it's done.

The sea is very loud. [ Maglor says helplessly - the fact that the Sea at home also has the Silmaril probably doesn't help that, of course ]

I suspect they must be at home. Nelyo didn't cope well with the recent... event, and Fingon didn't do that well either, for all he put on a brave face. They were both quite tired, and I don't think they would have been likely to stir far from home. I'll have to call them, after we're done. Make sure they're alright...

So it is. [ And as for the Silmaril, Maglor would know, since he was the one who threw it in. Whether it is still sunk in the muck at the bottom of the bay or retrieved by Ulmo or one of his Maiar and cached in some underwater palace, it would still have power over Maglor's imagination. ]

It is true, Nelyo and Findekáno were exhausted by their losses, and Nelyo in particular was overcome by his memories. I would think you are right, they are still at home or nearby. It would be good if you would call them.

[bythewaves]

[ Real or imagined, but the silver siren call still sounds for Maglor. Perhaps it always will. Or perhaps one day Osse will get fed up and smack some sense into him ]

I will. But what of Tyelpe? Where do you think he has gone?

[ Ossë had better!!! XD ]

[ Sigh. ] It would be just like Tyelpe to have gone off exploring. And it might just not occur to him to give us a call. You know how he is. Normally he's so thoughtful and the first thing he thinks of is how others might feel, bur once in a while he gets absorbed in what he's doing and then he's just as oblivious as you or I when we're absorbed.

[ And let him be all right, Maglor's dear nephew and Curufin's dear son! ]

[ The mun is sure he will ]

Aye that does seem like him - like all of us, at times. Perhaps I will call Nelyo and you can call Telpe?

[ Ossë, just drop that damned shiny rock into the deepest part of the Mariana Trench and have done with it already! ]

All of us, yes. [ A little bit of a laugh. ] All right, I'll call Tyelpe and you call Nelyo.

[ He probably kicked it straight to Ulmo all ewwww ]

I still remember us all at one stage or another running late to meals!

[ And we wonder what Ulmo did with it??? ]

Don't we always run late to something or other? [ Grin ]

I certainly remember having to drag you from the forges, Curvo!

And I remember having to drag you from the music room, Kano. [ Still smiling. ]

Aye well. [ Maglor laughs back ]

We all had our obssessions, eh?

[ Absolutely! All you need is a diving suit and a set of lock-picks. Or else a ship and a crane. XD ]

We all had our obsessions, indeed! We wouldn't have been ourselves if we had not. [ He grins at his memories. ]

[ Maglor thinks a crane would need more rope than currently exists XD ]

So we did! Although I think we were all grateful that you grew out of the need to test if gems were candy or not by gumming them.
