Intro Log: Please Remove Metal From Luggage

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for August
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: August 10th-13th
Warnings: New folks, metal falling apart, fun stuff

As you wake up on the sand of the colosseum, gazing up at cloudy gray skies, you might wonder what you're doing here. Where are you? How did you get here? You'll figure it all out soon enough, so try to clamp down on that rising panic, or you just might end up in a dangerous situation.

Because, of course, you're not the only thing that arrived. The Door has also chosen to pull in some rust monsters. These monsters may look a bit like insects, but they're much larger, with a rather vicious bite. You can fight them, but be careful - anything metal that touches them instantly begins to corrode. Your sword, a bullet from your gun, even your robot friend. Might want to keep a little distance.

And that's not all. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found a variety of unique and delightful musical instruments. If you're the musical sort, maybe you can figure out how to play one - or maybe you already know. Hopefully no rust monster has wandered too close to the one you want to try, or you might find that it's missing important metal bits.

Once you've found a way to express the song in your heart, feel free to leave whatever bit of safety you've found. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[He winces a little bit too, yeeeaaahh this situation really isn't ideal is it.]

There are people looking into a way to like, get out of here? So. I don't think we're going to just be stuck here forever, y'know?

[Really he sounds a lot more optimistic about this that he actually is. Even if they can get home, his hopes about actually being alive once he gets there aren't very high.]

[far from it. if ideal was the sun, this would be Pluto]

And I'd imagine that my friends back home are looking for me. Brainy and Lyle are two of the smartest beings in all of the United Planets, if anyone can find a way to bridge the divide between this place and the rest of the galaxy, it's them.

[and she sounds a lot more confident than she feels. what she said about Brainy and Lyle being smart is true, but the part about finding her is them knowing to look for her in the first place. and if she is dead as she fears, there would be no reason to look]

There we go, see? And I'm sure my guys back home are looking into all this crap too, so I think our odds are pretty good!

[HA HA no he doesn't. Everyone back home kind of has a way bigger problem on their hands than trying to track down one goofball in a spider costume.]

And you said that Mr. Stark is very smart, too. But, does he have a first name? I feel kind of funny calling him "Mr. Stark" all the time.

Anyway, our odds! I think you're right. Between your friends looking for you in your home and my friends looking for me in mine, we'll both be home in no time.

[HA HA HA, she doesn't think so. and when she was taken, the Legion had a much bigger problem on their hands, four Daxamites, each with the powers of Superman, determined to destroy Earth]

Oh, um. Sorry. Habit. His name is Tony.

Right, yeah! Some day we're all gonna look back on this and go "wow, what a crazy trip that was".

[everything is terrible and nothing is okay. what a great thing to bond over!]

[unphase]

[she smiles] Tony. So I'll know how to address him when he comes for you.

Some day soon. But we'll have to find a way to keep in touch after all of this is over. Brainy and Tony will probably consider it a challenge, to make a device which allows conversations through time to an alternate Earth.

[that's assuming Tinya faces the fact that she's probably dead. she plans to deny that as long as she can]

Man, it feels weird callin' him that.

That definitely sounds like something he'd try to make, though. I'd be surprised if he hasn't already thought up something like that.

[She and him both, buddy. Denial is totally healthy!]

[unphase]

I guess I can understand that. The Legion has a benefactor named R.J. Brande, but most of us call him Mr. Brande or just Brande.

Maybe all he needs is the proper inspiration? I'd say that Brainy would help, but he doesn't really play well with others.

[until denial stops working and you blurt out your problem to the first person willing to listen]

See I feel like it would be more fun to call him R.J., but maybe that's just me.

Not gonna lie, Mr. Stark would probably have a blast just messing with that guy.

[Then it's a whole new mess of fun problems]

[unphase]

Luornu calls him that, but that's because she worked for him before becoming a Legionnaire. The rest of us, though? It's Brande.

[she starts laughing] He can join the club. Lyle already messes with him, though with Lyle I think it's his weird way of flirting. I assume that Tony wouldn't be flirting, he'd just be messing with him.

[how old is the drinking age here?]

Fair enough.

I don't think he'd flirt? But he did say my aunt was hot which was super weird, so honestly I wouldn't put it past him.

[Pretty sure its somewhere around like. Birth.]

[unphase]

[she claps her hands over her mouth to hide her giggling. once she's done, she releases her hands]

He didn't! Oh, no! [she laughs some more] Then yes, he probably would flirt with Brainy, just to keep him off balance. It would work, too, he has no social skills.

[then their eventual mode of coping is clear: drinking until unconsciousness]

[Well he's glad that someone thinks this is funny, because it had been mega awkward when it happened.]

Oh, he absolutely did. Not to her face, though. She probably would have slapped him stupid if he had. But yeah, if this guy is that easy to fluster, it wouldn't even be a challenge for Mr. Stark to trip him up.

[unphase]

[she laughs some more] That would be an accomplishment, slapping someone like that stupid. And it's not that he's easy to fluster exactly, it's that he's been so smart for so long with nobody around him to challenge his intellect that he's sort of . . . forgotten what it's like to have someone around who can. And so he doesn't usually react well when someone does.

[itsnotaonesie]

With how many times he's been blown up and shot at and stuff, yeah, I guess that would be impressive.

I dunno, I feel like if I was that smart, and someone came along who was up there with me, I'd be stoked to have someone on my level to talk to and like, bounce ideas off of and stuff.

[unphase]

Unfortunately, people trying to do that kind of stuff comes with the choice to be a superhero. [she considers] Though, I've never had anyone try to blow me up. I've had someone blow up a moondome I was in, though.

You'd think, but Brainy is very. . . defensive about how smart he is compared to everyone else. I think maybe it's because it's all he has that counts as a superpower, so he doesn't like it when someone comes along who can challenge him.

[itsnotaonesie]

I haven't been blown up yet, but I have had a building dropped on me, and I crashed an airplane trying to catch a dude once, then there was that moon... You know how hard it is to dodge chunks of moon? Pretty hard.

I guess I can understand that? I don't know if I'd even call that a power though, but then things are probably just different where I'm from.

[unphase]

That's. . . a lot. A lot to deal with. And no, I've never had to dodge chunks of a moon. Though, technically I wouldn't have to. I could phase and they'd go through me.

Really? Because it sounds to me as though Tony Stark's main power is his intelligence. The armored suits are part of the intelligence.

[itsnotaonesie]

That really is like the best power ever. You're impossible to hit!

I guess when you put it that way, yeah, that makes sense. There'd be no Iron Man if it wasn't for Tony Stark's crazy ideas.

[unphase]

[except for when she's distracted and thinks her opponent was beaten]

Y-yeah. It's nice, not having to worry about stuff like that.

Exactly. What else has he invented, besides his Iron Man suits and your new web shooters?

[itsnotaonesie]

[Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaah :c]

It was a long time ago, but his company used to deal with weapon development and stuff like that. That's not really his thing anymore, though.

[unphase]

[which she is firmly In Denial about]

That's good. Weapons development is. . . lucrative, but every weapons developer I've ever met has seemed a little [she tries to think of the nicest word possible] shady.

[itsnotaonesie]

Yeah, I've dealt with an entire one, but shady is definitely a good word for it. And dangerous.

[unphase]

Dangerous? Would this be something like the problem with your homecoming date's dad?

[itsnotaonesie]

Yeah, that's exactly what he was doing. He was making all these crazy weapons and stuff, and then just sellin' 'em on the street to whoever would pay for them. He may not have been a big name weapon developer, but he was still doing the same thing.
