Intro Log: Please Remove Metal From Luggage

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for August
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: August 10th-13th
Warnings: New folks, metal falling apart, fun stuff

As you wake up on the sand of the colosseum, gazing up at cloudy gray skies, you might wonder what you're doing here. Where are you? How did you get here? You'll figure it all out soon enough, so try to clamp down on that rising panic, or you just might end up in a dangerous situation.

Because, of course, you're not the only thing that arrived. The Door has also chosen to pull in some rust monsters. These monsters may look a bit like insects, but they're much larger, with a rather vicious bite. You can fight them, but be careful - anything metal that touches them instantly begins to corrode. Your sword, a bullet from your gun, even your robot friend. Might want to keep a little distance.

And that's not all. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found a variety of unique and delightful musical instruments. If you're the musical sort, maybe you can figure out how to play one - or maybe you already know. Hopefully no rust monster has wandered too close to the one you want to try, or you might find that it's missing important metal bits.

Once you've found a way to express the song in your heart, feel free to leave whatever bit of safety you've found. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[she laughs some more] That would be an accomplishment, slapping someone like that stupid. And it's not that he's easy to fluster exactly, it's that he's been so smart for so long with nobody around him to challenge his intellect that he's sort of . . . forgotten what it's like to have someone around who can. And so he doesn't usually react well when someone does.

[itsnotaonesie]

With how many times he's been blown up and shot at and stuff, yeah, I guess that would be impressive.

I dunno, I feel like if I was that smart, and someone came along who was up there with me, I'd be stoked to have someone on my level to talk to and like, bounce ideas off of and stuff.

[unphase]

Unfortunately, people trying to do that kind of stuff comes with the choice to be a superhero. [she considers] Though, I've never had anyone try to blow me up. I've had someone blow up a moondome I was in, though.

You'd think, but Brainy is very. . . defensive about how smart he is compared to everyone else. I think maybe it's because it's all he has that counts as a superpower, so he doesn't like it when someone comes along who can challenge him.

[itsnotaonesie]

I haven't been blown up yet, but I have had a building dropped on me, and I crashed an airplane trying to catch a dude once, then there was that moon... You know how hard it is to dodge chunks of moon? Pretty hard.

I guess I can understand that? I don't know if I'd even call that a power though, but then things are probably just different where I'm from.

[unphase]

That's. . . a lot. A lot to deal with. And no, I've never had to dodge chunks of a moon. Though, technically I wouldn't have to. I could phase and they'd go through me.

Really? Because it sounds to me as though Tony Stark's main power is his intelligence. The armored suits are part of the intelligence.

[itsnotaonesie]

That really is like the best power ever. You're impossible to hit!

I guess when you put it that way, yeah, that makes sense. There'd be no Iron Man if it wasn't for Tony Stark's crazy ideas.

[unphase]

[except for when she's distracted and thinks her opponent was beaten]

Y-yeah. It's nice, not having to worry about stuff like that.

Exactly. What else has he invented, besides his Iron Man suits and your new web shooters?

[itsnotaonesie]

[Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaah :c]

It was a long time ago, but his company used to deal with weapon development and stuff like that. That's not really his thing anymore, though.

[unphase]

[which she is firmly In Denial about]

That's good. Weapons development is. . . lucrative, but every weapons developer I've ever met has seemed a little [she tries to think of the nicest word possible] shady.

[itsnotaonesie]

Yeah, I've dealt with an entire one, but shady is definitely a good word for it. And dangerous.

[unphase]

Dangerous? Would this be something like the problem with your homecoming date's dad?

[itsnotaonesie]

Yeah, that's exactly what he was doing. He was making all these crazy weapons and stuff, and then just sellin' 'em on the street to whoever would pay for them. He may not have been a big name weapon developer, but he was still doing the same thing.

[unphase]

[she frowns] That sounds dangerous, selling weapons to whomever wants them. I can't imagine they were buying the weapons for any kind of good reason.

[itsnotaonesie]

I can understand maybe wanting something for self defense, but these weren't the kind of weapons you get to protect yourself with.

[unphase]

[she nods] I figured they weren't. It's strange. On most UP worlds, most people don't feel the need for such weapons, but there are still people who make the weapons. And criminals to buy them.

[itsnotaonesie]

Not everybody's satisfied with peace. Otherwise, there wouldn't be a need for people like us.

[unphase]

[...oh, sprock. face-first into DAXAMITE FEELINGS and THINKING SHE'S DEAD and all of the color drains from her face]

Y-yeah. It's important. [she tries to smile] What we do.

[itsnotaonesie]

[Oh nooo girl you ain't looking too good. Peter is instantly worried that he's said something wrong at some point. Don't freak your new friends out Peter, God]

Yeah, it, um... Hey, are you okay?

[unphase]

[she is repressing her feelings as hard as she can. and after years with her mother, she's got a lot of experience at that]

Y--yeah. I'm fine? Why wouldn't I be?

[itsnotaonesie]

Uh, well, I... You just... Okay, you know when someone says "you look like you've seen a ghost"? You look like... well, that.

[Buuut he gets the feeling that whatever's bugging her isn't something she wants to talk about, SO]

I don't wanna get all up in your business, though, y'know?

[unphase]

...oh. Sorry.

[it isn't, exactly. she knows she'll have to talk about it eventually. maybe she can talk about some of it?]

No. No, it's fine. It's just--when I was taken, the Legion was in the middle of a battle. It. . . wasn't going well. So I'm worried.

[itsnotaonesie]

Oh, man. Yeah, I can understand that. A little too well, I think, but I totally get that.

[He's pretty sure he knows how his fight ended, but to be taken from right in the middle of a bigass battle was probably a lot worse. There's just no telling what could happen.]

[unphase]

[she nods]

I. . . thought you might. Since as you said, in your battle, the bad guy won. That's what I'm afraid of.

Remember what I told you about Superman's powers?

[itsnotaonesie]

[He wants to say something encouraging, something like 'your guys totally could have won' or something, but it sounds like wherever this is going might just shoot that thought in the foot.]

Uh, yeah. He's got all kinds of crazy powers, I remember.

[unphase]

[unfortunately, yes]

There's another race of beings with the same powers under a yellow sun. Daxamites. There's this--group of Daxamites called the White Triangle. They believe that they're superior to all other races.

They already committed genocide on Trom. Five billion people dead. Then, they attacked Earth, intending to do the same. We were trying to stop them, but fighting beings with that kind of power is. . . difficult.
