World Log: Tundra Arrival

What: The log for the city's arrivel on the ice planet
Where: All around the city
When: November 21st-November 30th
Warnings: None

You all get some warning to prepare, which is great. A little time to stock up on supplies, make sure everything's where it supposed to be, call your friends in from their fishing boats. And then the city moves. It happens in the blink of an eye - one moment you're on islands, surrounded by ocean, and the next? The next you're surrounded by frozen ground, the temperature has dropped significantly, and even the sky looks different. The air has a bite to it, that familiar feeling telling you it's thinking about snowing soon. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday soon.

The city has rearranged itself back into that old, familiar shape, instead of spread out across islands like it was a moment ago. Maybe that'll make things easier for you, maybe it won't, but it also means the return of the lake and river that used to bisect the city - only now they're frozen over. This climate also means it'll be hard for any plants not otherwise protected to survive - and that you, too, will start feeling that cold if you're away from a warm place for too long.

And warm places might be in short supply, because when the city moved the gods did not. What does that mean for you? Well, whatever supplies are in the shops at the moment the city moves are the only ones left. No new food supplies, no new clothing, nothing. In addition, the power across the whole city is out, including water and heating. Anything else powered or supplied by gods (the hot springs, the mopeds, what's left of the orchard, the armory, the GPS) will not work.

You're on your own. Try not to die.

I hear that. Not that people pissed me off back home, but the people here are just... I don't know how to describe it, really. Easier to be around? Maybe because I don't have to be all secretive around them all the time.

[And he starts packing his stuff up because it is cold as BUTTS]

I'd probably recover from it pretty quickly? Don't really wanna test it, though.

I guess so. After all, it seems like all of us have secrets. Which don't stay secret for long. It's the universe's weirdest small town.

[she watches and in some small concession to the cold, puts her hands in her jeans pockets]

Yeah, no, let's not go there.

I kinda like the weirdness, personally. Makes me feel a little more normal. It's still kinda funny how keeping big secrets is easier to do in a massive city than it is in a place like this, though.

To be honest? Same here. Being a Grim Reaper is tame compared some of the stuff around here. And I dunno, maybe it's easier because everybody else is so caught up in their own stuff that they can't bother to pay attention to anyone else's? But here, we have nothing to do but get all up in everyone else's stuff.

I don't go out of my way to butt into people's business, but even then it's super easy to just stumble into someone's personal junk. You ever notice that?

[she gives him a wry smile] Boy, have I. It's like every time you meet a new person, they're all about telling you their life story. So then you have to tell them some of yours so it won't be awkward.

I don't mind telling people some things, I guess, but I'm not about to go dropping all my personal stuff on someone just out of the blue.

No, that's kinda rude. And tacky. Unless you feel comfortable with the person and the conversation kind of goes there on its own. But I'm not about to introduce myself by saying [in an overly perky tone of voice] "Hi, I'm George and I'm a Grim Reaper! Ask me how!"

Never do that voice again, that was terrifying.

[she continues using the voice] What? You have a problem with perky?

Perky's fine, but this is like someone made some kind of screwed up pod person clone of you that's still learning how humans are supposed to interact with each other.

Oh, I dunno. I kind ramble sometimes, that can be kind of awkward I guess.

I don't mind. I like the rambling, actually. Part of your charm.

That sounds like something my aunt would say, which I guess means it must be true.

From what I've heard of your aunt, I'm so taking that as a compliment. [she sweeps him an exaggerated bow] Compliment accepted.

[and it has just now occurred to her] Hey. Hey. You know what we oughtta do? When the lights get turned back on?

[Aunt May is super cool, so it's totally a compliment. He gives her a thumbs up hell yes.]

Have a sick rave party?

No. Well, yes. When the electricity comes back on. Do you have the music needed for a sick rave party?

But, no, that's not what I meant. Ever see "A Christmas Story?"

I do not have rave music on me currently, no. But yeah, of course I've seen it. My aunt and uncle used to watch it every Christmas. One of those holiday tradition things.

And neither do I. But if you want The Pixies or angry chick music or the occasional bit of Johnny Cash, I'm your girl.

And good, you've seen it. You know the lamp?

I've never heard of The Pixies, but I know Johnny Cash. My uncle used to listen to his stuff all the time.

I do know the lamp, and I think I like where this is going.

Holy shit, you've never heard of The Pixies? "Where is My Mind?" "Monkey Gone to Heaven?" "Debaser?" We have got to do something about that.

Thought you might. Anyway, the stores cough up weird shit all the time. Figured the leg lamp might be among 'em. We need to put that badboy right in our front window.
