Event Log: The Stampede

There's a rumbling sound in the air early in the afternoon on December 26th. Whether you're new in town or you've seen it all, something like this hasn't happened before. Is it an earthquake? It feels kind of like a small one, and that might be endurable if not for the sudden snarling and gnashing of teeth!

As it turns out, these yet-unnamed apex predators are overrunning the city, ignoring their previous apprehension to barrel right through anything- or anyone- that stands in their way. Seemingly spooked by something, they are aggressive and violent and won't hesitate to tear anyone they meet to pieces... after trampling them underfoot, of course. They're so large and muscular that they may even take a few portions of buildings with them- how would you like to see one of these monsters crashing through your living room?

At least it's only these weird mammoths, though... right?

[ Oh good. Wash visibly relaxes, offering her a tiny, gentle smile. Lance gets a grateful look for the water, too, as he stays at Kyna's side. But they're still in the reception area. ]

Yeah. Yeah, of course... do you want to find a room for some privacy?

[lifetothefullest]

[Don't even give him that look, Kyna, like he wants to get in the middle of a lover's quarrel. >:c

He holds the water bottle out to her as Wash talks, adding--]

There's a room over there that's empty.

[He nods his head slightly in the direction as he says it.]

[evocation]

[Kyna stands up, taking the water bottle from Lance and standing on her tiptoes to kiss him on the cheek.]

Thanks. You're the best.

[And then she turns to Wash again. Time for another terrible joke to hide the bad mood she's in.]

Mr. Extreme Sports over here is an expert in broken bones. Right, Lance?

[hardwearing]

[ Wash quirks an eyebrow, standing as well with Kyna's jacket over his arm and his helmet in that hand, his other raised almost in objection that she'd call fighting for his life for a decade 'extreme sports' but he knows it's just another weak joke. ]

I've broken a ton, yeah, that probably counts. If you had armor I'd be giving you my healing unit right now.

[Lance is finally getting used to Kyna's displays of affection, so he's only barely flustered and rolls his eyes a little at her comment.]

Yeah, you're welcome, repay me by not getting injured again any time soon. I'll see if I can find Pell, and I'll send him your way.

[evocation]

[She shoots another little smile at Lance, then turns back to Wash.]

Oh, um... I meant Lance. He did track.

[Great joke, Kyna.]

[hardwearing]

Oh.... sorry. That's a better joke.

I was pretty good at it too.

[He says it lightly, trying to alleviate the awkwardness for their benefits more than his own, gesturing toward the room.]

Go lay down.

[evocation]

[She clicks her tongue, but gives Lance's hand a quick squeeze before looping her arm through Wash's.]

Bossy, bossy. You two are bullies.

[hardwearing]

We are not, we just want you fixed up. Come on.

[ Into the room they go -- he glances back at Lance to see if he's coming. ]

[lifetothefullest]

[Lance would totally accept 'bossy', though he knows she's joking anyway; he doesn't follow them into the room, letting them have some alone time especially since he really does want Kyna to rest a bit, but also because he's going to see if he can find another healer to get her arm fixed up the rest of the way.]

[evocation]

[Kyna sticks her tongue out at Lance, then follows Wash into the side room. She doesn't lay down though, just sits.]

You're mad at me, aren't you?

[hardwearing]

[ When it's clear Lance isn't following, Wash closes the door and returns to Kyna's side.... and his brow furrows a little. ]

Mad? No, you... you just scared the crap out of me. I would've been mad if you insisted on going home right now, that's just a mistake to leave your arm broken. But you didn't, so.

[ He shrugs a little. ]

Lance said to lie down. Doctor's orders.

[evocation]

[Kyna sighs, but does as she's told.]

I'm sorry. I don't usually panic like that.

[hardwearing]

I think this was extenuating circumstances, Kyna. And I know you just wanted to protect me. It's okay.

[evocation]

Okay.

[Kyna picks absently at the mattress of the cot, then shoots him a little smile.]

So I'm not grounded?

[hardwearing]

...I'm not your mom. [ He's everyone's mom. ] I won't tell you that you can't go out anymore, that's ridiculous and would make me an asshole. You can handle most situations better than I can anyway, with your magic. You've saved my ass plenty of times before, but when your head is clear. Just promise me you'll be more careful so I don't worry myself to death, that's all. We had a plan and it was following my dodge, worst case I could've taken that hit better than you if it happened. Don't put yourself in more danger than I'd be in, okay?

[evocation]

Ugh. I don't want you to take hits at all.

[Which she knows is stupid, but she's overemotional right now.]

[hardwearing]

I really wouldn't have, I'm dodgy. And I was trusting you to follow my lead, that's probably why I sounded so upset.

[evocation]

Yeah, well... I should have followed your lead. You're better at plans than I am.

[hardwearing]

It seemed like you meant to. But I know why you didn't and it's done to be learned from, and you're going to be okay. So we're okay.

[ He leans down to kiss her forehead again, something he sort of can't believe he did in front of Lance before but it is what it is. Chalk it up to relief. ]

[evocation]

Okay.

[She smiles at him again, then sighs.]

You know this is the first time I've broken my arm?

[hardwearing]

I could've guessed... is it the first time you've broken anything? You didn't seem to know about setting it.

[evocation]

Yeah, pretty much. I mean, I've broken my ribs, but that's it.

[hardwearing]

You mean here? Yeah, those weren't displaced enough to need setting. And without healers, if they were floating you'd need surgery.
