Event Log: Is It a Wonderful Life?

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for Is It A Wonderful Life? event
Where: All over the city
When: Jan 4th-8th
Warnings: None

Throughout the next few days, you may find yourself plagued by visions and dreams of back home. The dreams will be lifelike and difficult to tell apart from reality, as the world will be constructed from what you remember of your world. However, unlike usual dreams, you won't be present, and will find yourself unable to be seen or heard by those around you.

The dreams are vivid reminders of what might happen in a world without you: a world in which you disappeared when coming to Hadriel, a world which desperately needs you back for some reason or another. You may see your parents putting up missing posters, your significant other moving onto their next relationship, or even your hated villain finally taking over the world without you there to stop them.

When the vision leaves, you're back here and nothing about the city has changed. Though maybe you have a different outlook on it now...

► This log covers January 4th-Januray 8th.
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you try a weird solution to make it back home, please let us know here.

[She does make enough noise to tell that there is something coming from behind him. Better safe than sorry, not that it really matters with the Dog, but she's had no need for stealth at the moment. No, she uses that for tracking the little critters.

The question does catch her attention as she comes around the from the back of the spire, and casting a look his way as the Dog comes in to view.]

No. I can howl or bark, if you'd like.

[ There's a talking dog. Okay. That's...new. Ephemera blinks a few times, then shakes his head. At least it looks friendlier than the ones he dealt with as a kid. Those fuckers had been feral and half insane, they'd eat anything that held still long enough. ]

I mean. I'm not gonna stop you.

[ There's a talking dog. What the fuck. ]

....why are you talking?
standformyself: (No bunnies?)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-06 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[Overall all, the Dog is of a good disposition, although she can also snap a hand off, if the situation calls. Her mistress would have a golden one in the future, built specifically for her. The Dog knows that much.

Her head gives a little cock, and there might be a slight motion in her shoulders, like a shrug. She tends to bark for joy, or for attention, or for any number of things. Howling tends to be aimed more towards making beings walk, although she did like the way that it rumbled in her chest.]

You did ask a question. It seemed impolite not to answer.

[personal profile] requiemshark 2019-01-06 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
That I did.

[ Her ears look soft, Ephemera thinks, and exhales a cloud of nicotine. ]

You got a name?
standformyself: (Share?)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-07 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Very soft... You know you want to scratch them...]

I do. The Disreputable Dog, unless you'd like me to get technical about it. Most just call me the Dog. And you?
requiemshark: (007)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2019-01-07 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
[ He really does.... ]

Okay, Dog. Call me Ephemera.

[ He considers the dog for a moment. ]

Sorry. Dogs don't talk where I'm from. It's throwing me a bit.
standformyself: (Share?)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-07 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Ephemera.

[As she takes a moment to roll that over her tongue, committing it to memory. There is a tilt of her head, tongue lolling out with that glimmer in her eyes.]

Ah. They don't talk where I'm from either, although some do have interesting jobs as sniffers. They get to wear vests with their name and number on it.
requiemshark: (027)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2019-01-07 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It means temporary.

[ A leftover joke from his childhood. A cruel one, he thinks, but he's taken the name as his own. Claimed it for himself. ]

You're special, then?

[ A talking dog. Okay. ]

What do the sniffers look for?
standformyself: (Share?)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-08 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
[An odd meaning, perhaps, although not entirely bad. It is one thing about life, that nothing ever stays the same. If one looks at it that way, everything is temporary in the end.]

Most things are.

[Special. In a way, yes, yet no more than anything else in the universe. It is one of the reason that she had chosen to make a stand, and chosen to stand for herself the second time. Yet she doesn't provide a response to that, only the latter.]

Anything interesting! Bombs and guns, apparently, but I'm sure that they can sniff whatever they really want.
requiemshark: (024)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2019-01-08 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ephemera hums in agreement. Life is fleeting. Brutal, too. Might as well enjoy what you have. ]

Yeah? That'd come in handy here.

[ He hesitates, tapping ash off the cigarette. ]

....can I pet you?
standformyself: (is disreputable)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-08 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't too good, mind. I talked.

[Yet she doesn't seem heartbroken over it at all. In the end everything had worked out just fine with that, and it isn't as if they had been without means. They'd ended up even getting a ride in one of those horseless carriages, as bumpy as that had been.

The question does have her ears perking, as if nothing else, the Dog always enjoys a good scratch. While she might be able to pet herself, it just isn't as nice.]

Of course. Behind the ears is my favourite, but beggars can't be choosers.
requiemshark: (030)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2019-01-10 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
[ Hesitantly, Ephemera reaches out and gives her a scratch behind the ears. Her fur is soft and her ears are surprisingly warm. ]

Is that bad, talking?
standformyself: (Share?)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-11 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
[His hand is met by her head bumping up to give a firmer pet on her head.]

Only when you're not supposed to.
requiemshark: (023)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2019-01-11 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ Okay. This is nice. She's not trying to eat him and the conversation is one of the calmer ones he's had recently.

Ephemera rubs her head. Why not? ]

Good point. That can get you in trouble. Guess it also depends on what you were saying, though.
standformyself: (wet kisses)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-12 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I wasn't saying bark bark or woof.

[Which are the only things that are proper for a sniffer to say. Possibly a howl. The Dog didn't actually read up on them or anything, just went by what had been told to her, so they may well have had formal training when they did detect something.]

A little to the right, if you don't mind.
requiemshark: (030)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2019-01-12 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Ephemera hums to himself, shifting as requested. It's a little strange to have a dog asked to be scratched, but he's seen weirder. ]

That okay?

[ Besides, he likes this one. Maybe dogs aren't awful after all. ]

One of my friends had a cat, for a little while. It didn't talk, but he loved that thing.
standformyself: (wet kisses)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-13 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[Her eyes close a little, basking in the attention, because yes, she does thoroughly enjoy the attention. ]

Perfect.

[Her ears do shift to a more alert position when he mentions a cat, thinking for a moment that Mogget has been up to something. So far there hasn't been any danger signs or the like. It's unlikely that there is anyone here strong enough to remove his collar anyway.]

I know a cat. He can be fairly troublesome. Quick with the claws, although not quite quick enough.
requiemshark: (024)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2019-01-13 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It's kinda nice, scratching a dog's ears. Ephemera hadn't known. He'd always thought dogs were mean and loud and fantasized about eating people. ]

Don't know much about animals. The cat didn't have a tail. Just a little nub. But it'd curl up in our helmets sometimes and purr.

[ That was a long time ago. Ephemera's voice is fond and a little sad. ]

Dogs wag their tails when they're happy, right?
standformyself: (is disreputable)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-14 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, she might dream about chasing rabbits, and even chase critters in her waking hours, but eating people has never crossed her mind. She prefers her ham bones or seasoned, and cooked, meat of the non-human variety.

She might bite though.]

It's one of the signs, yes. Relaxed position, tongue out, happy barking.
requiemshark: (030)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2019-01-14 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah? I'm learning something today.

[ Strangely, this is one of the easiest conversations Ephemera's had in a long time. He rubs the dog's head, shifting to scratch carefully behind her ears. ]

Dunno what happened to that cat. Barrows left it with some kids. Maybe they lived.

[ He hopes they lived, anyway. ]

So. Why're you disreputable, anyway?
standformyself: (wet kisses)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-14 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[She will say that she is good at listening, although having such good hearing likely does have something to play in to that. Of course there is also the fact that she is typically genuinely interested in most things life related. It is one of the reasons why she had taken a stand all those many years ago, and why she had stood again just recently.]

I find cats to be fairly resourceful.

[After all, Mogget had been carried around for some time in a knapsack and had even been given sardines in a can to eat. The Dog on the other hand had enjoyed walking around on her own two feet, to get muddy and wet and overall dirty.]

It's a state of being. Takes a fair amount of work, you know.

[And her head may be tipped a little to the side to let her tongue dart out to lick along his hand. Thankfully she doesn't aim for his ears or cheek. That had been more for her mistress.]
requiemshark: (023)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2019-01-15 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Ephemera huffs a little, surprised. Okay. He just got licked by a talking dog. ]

I can imagine. [ Something you have to practice. ] Why, though?
standformyself: (Share?)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-15 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Why what?

[Even a direct question is something that the Dog will squirm and wiggle out of without people even being aware sometimes, but an open ended one that she can interpret anyway... She licks as her jowls, an innocent light in her eyes.]
requiemshark: (003)

[personal profile] requiemshark 2019-01-16 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Why disreputable? You could be a lot of other things if you wanted.

[ The Dog's good at talking, that's for sure. Ephemera isn't sure being disreputable is a positive, exactly; it's not what he'd choose to be named after. But then again, he's listening to a talking dog. All bets are off. ]
standformyself: (wet kisses)

[personal profile] standformyself 2019-01-17 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Such as?

[She is open to suggestions, although she does enjoy being what she is. After all, the Dog had chosen it for herself. It allows her a lot of leeway to do as she pleases, when she pleases, with what she pleases. To wiggle and worm out of answers as well. Plus, it does have a certain flair to it, she thinks.]
