Welcome to Hadriel. Your first glimpse of your new home is maybe not the most welcome - you awaken on the floor of the colosseum, surrounded by sand and walls and... trees? Yes, trees. Along with you and the other newcomers, a number of Territorial Oaks have arrived in Hadriel. They look just like normal trees, except for those welcoming smiles - oh, and they don't like you at all. They move fast, hit hard, and if you manage to bring one down it'll go out in a large, dangerous explosion. This may have you rethinking your stance on clear-cutting.
While you're trying to avoid the trees, you might come across a few of the other things the Door has deposited in the colosseum for your (its?) entertainment. Namely, a bunch of toys that no one has played with in years. But maybe one of them will tickle your fancy?
Once you've finished indulging your 90's nostalgia, feel free to look around. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers February 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

[she sounds wistful. she wishes she'd had more time for fun. she spent most of her childhood following her mother around as free help on her diplomatic missions and after that, she joined the Legion and threw herself into danger. and she's not entirely sure she survived her last mission.
it's not a bad coat. brown's a little dull, but it's better than some of the eye-gouging color combinations she's seen in the shops]
There's magno-ball, but I never really had the chance to get into it. Mother frowned on "frivolous things." [and so she kept her daughter busy with running errands and sitting in on diplomatic summit meetings and peace talks]
no subject
Never heard of it, how do you play?
[ his own parents certainly more than frowned over frivolous things, but that was because they couldn't afford them. playing sports wasn't frivolous, it fostered strength, teamwork, strategy. participating in it his whole life has made bucky an ideal candidate for the army. he finds himself grateful for the millionth time for his family, even for their poor finances that allowed him to grow up the way he has, to play where he played how he played with the people he played. he wouldn't have traded it for all the riches of all the world. ]
no subject
It's--as far as I know, it's kind of like racquetball? Only it's played by Braalians who use their natural powers of magnetism with a metal ball.
[her mother considered anything that wasn't her priority frivolous. and her father was never in the picture, they divorced when Tinya was a baby. on some level, she can understand why her mother is the way she is. the Wazzos had been Bgztl's royal family until three hundred years ago, at which point they transitioned into diplomacy. it doesn't make it any easier to deal with, though]
So, what's your world like? [she winces] Other than the, uh, war part. Or is that just sort of. . . eating up everything?
no subject
but it's not like that back home, and after having seen what hydra weapons can do - that's what he wants to fight for even more; keeping it that way. he doesn't want to see new york go the way of london; bombed to hell - or worse. he could easily wallow in the narrow view of the past few months, but what good's that gonna do? this is a reprieve, and if nothing else, he can use it to remember what he's probably going to die for. ]
It's gonna take more than a war to break New York. [ he has great pride in his city; they may be rough around the edges, but they're a tough lot through and through. steve will be okay. he has to be okay. ]
no subject
a reprieve. that might be the best possible way of looking at it. that's what she tries to do, even though she worries herself sick about her friends back home, fighting enemies that drastically overpowered them. but if she focuses on that and the fact that she's probably dead back home, she'll drive herself nuts]
I'm glad. I'd love to see it someday, you describe it so well. [she doesn't mind rough around the edges. strange for a girl of such a refined birth, but maybe it's because of her birth and how she was raised that she gravitates towards the rougher edges]
no subject
It's the best city on Earth. [ he nods ] Anything worth doing or having - you can find it there. [ he pulls out a hat; grey and patchy, but warm, and it compliments his eyes. ]
no subject
and this place has a way of helping those who were suffering or on the verge of death or actually were dead to recover. she doesn't know if the aliens do it using magic, science, or both, but she's pretty sure she's dead and she woke up here feeling fresh as a daisy. it's weird, but she's not about to question it too much, lest it get stripped away]
Anything? That's a pretty tall order. [she teases gently. and yes, the hat was a good choice] Nice hat. Sometimes, the shops are nice to us.
no subject
We can hack it. [ he doesn't care that he's grandstanding a little bit, it's not like it matters, and he misses his home so much that all faults of it have long been erased from his mind. absence makes the heart blind and deaf to those, it seems.
he grins, the confident grin of a handsome man who has been handsome his whole life and is perfectly aware of that fact. sure he's a little skinny from his ordeal, and he hasn't brushed his hair in a while, but he's been showered and shaved to accommodate the doctor's specifications, and his eyes are starting to regain some of their life back, just from discussing his home. ]
Must be my lucky day. [ he's actually not entirely sure it isn't, considering said predicament he was pulled from. ]
no subject
So, what do you do for fun there? [because Tinya is always on the lookout for something fun. when she accompanied her mother on her diplomatic missions, Tinya would sneak out at night and go to a nightclub where she'd dance the night away.
and at his grin, she blushes faintly but grins back. he's very handsome and that was a very nice grin. she knows nothing can come of it because she's still considered a kid here, but there's no harm in a little friendly flirting, right? right]
Absolutely. Some people, the clothes pile likes. You might be one of them. [she considers herself lucky to have been pulled from her own death]
no subject
[ he's definitely not flirt flirting with a kid, but there is sort of a instinctive flirty attitude that he falls into around the ladies regardless of intent. ]
You don't seem to be on their naughty list, either.
[ or, well. she'd certainly be considered on that list for the standards of his time, but she's wearing very complementary clothes and not ill-fitting rags. ]
no subject
And me? Well, I already mentioned dancing. I love going to hol--movies, too. And not just romance movies, though I do love those, too. I have a huge collection of them on a device from home, but I can't get it to work here.
[she likes it. though, she has to admit, it's a little annoying to be considered a kid here when she was an adult in her own world. but, she'll deal with it.
she giggles] Trust me, this outfit took hours of digging through neon plaid jeans and button down shirts with doggie patterns on them.
no subject
You're on. Where is that?
[ whatever style of dancing they do here, he's sure he'll manage to figure it out. ]
It's a big event thrown by Howard Stark, he's probably in your history books. He shows off his new inventions, and there's food and shows, it's a lotta fun.
[ or well it is if your best friend doesn't ditch you there to go commit his uptillionth felony because of his stubborn sense of morality and pride. it's not too bad even when that happens, honestly. ]
That's a damn shame, I could go for a picture.
[ especially one that isn't previewed by reminders of the war. he remembers it perfectly, what he'd like is to forget for an hour, rest his weary mind. ]
Worth it, if you ask me. [ he really can't help himself, it's a problem. doesn't help that she doesn't look that young. ]
no subject
It's not far from here and it's all lit up, all the time. You can't miss it.
[she knows all kinds. thank being sent to a finishing school when she was twelve.
and she shakes her head] Can't say I've ever heard of it. It sounds like fun, though. What kinds of shows and inventions are shown off?
[she can't say she's ever had anything like that happen. mostly because until she joined the Legion, she didn't really have any friends]
Me and a friend named Peter are trying to figure out a way to access them. If we can, I'll be sure to let you know.
[the only wartime movie she has is "Casablanca," and that's because it's a classic romance.
and she smiles brightly] Thank you. I do try to look nice. Looking nice can make a bad day a little better. [and she doesn't mind one little bit. it's harmless and it's fun! so why not go with it?]
no subject
[ if the emotion-sucking vampire aliens want to fill up on some fun, that he's happy to oblige them with. he's not going to waste this gift on feeling sorry for himself, that's for certain. ]
Whatever Mr. Stark's got rattling in that big mind of his. Main event this time was a flying car, if you can picture that. [ actually, she probably can - she was flying herself and is from the future, right. ] Well, you probably can, probably old hat for you, aren't they.
[ but it was a damn thrill for bucky. though now he does wish mr. stark spend less time on flying cars and more time on figuring out how to deal with hydra weapons. if anyone can figure it out, it'd be howard stark.
he nods at the name dropped. ]
Little guy from Queens?
[ new yorkers, they don't break easy and they're resourceful as all hell. ]
I agree.
[ bucky's always tried to look his best; it's dignified, respectful, and frankly makes him feel better. ]
no subject
[unfortunately, the alien who feeds on fun was a traitor and is in prison somewhere. he might be able to fuel Hope and Love, though]
A flying car in your time? That's really impressive. And yeah, it might be common where I'm from, but it's still a lot of fun.
[and she wishes that the United Planets had done something about the White Triangle before they slaughtered a planet of seven billion people instead of leaving the Legion to handle the entire situation.
and she nods and beams at his question] That would be him! You've met?
[she's learning that. New York City may not exist in her reality, but she's been very impressed with those she's met from there.
so does she. it's about the only thing her mother pressed her to do that she didn't rebel against]
no subject
Better find something appropriate to wear, then. [ he smiles, if he's going dancing, he better look the part and a worn out half-a-uniform is certainly not going to cut it. ]
It sure looked like it. [ even though it crashed after a few seconds, he did say it would take a couple more years to get it done, after all, it was fair enough. it's a future expo.
that would definitely be preferable. people sure do need to work on their priorities.
he nods; clearly fond of the guy. there's a camaraderie between new yorkers outside of the city. sure, there's the friendly rivalry between brooklyn and queens, but here they're as close to kin as can get, and he seems like a nice kid, helpful, kind of reminds him of another little squirt from new york. ]
Nice guy.
no subject
she winks and gestures towards the clothing pile] Well, have at it. Maybe you'll be lucky again.
Flying is such a rush to begin with. Whether it's in a car, a ship, or with my flight ring. I love it. [she wishes she could show him her world and all of its technological wonders.
they really did, especially since the White Triangle was made up of Daxamites, beings with all the powers of Superman.
and it's clear that she's fond of him, too. he's easily one of her very best friends here and she loves hanging out with him. and she already enjoys talking to Bucky very much]
Yeah, he is, he's great.
no subject
he looks back up at her at the mention of a very unexpected piece of jewelry? tech? both? ]
Sorry, did you say flight ring?
no subject
it's both, actually!]
--oh! Yeah, I did. [she holds up her right hand, showing a ring on her ring finger] I'm sorry, I'm so used to having it on, sometimes I forget that nobody else here has one.
no subject
he stares at the ring but there really doesn't seem to be anything particularly remarkable about it - beyond the fact that it seems to be a whole lot of gold and therefore, far beyond his means.
his eyebrows furrow as he tries to work out how a ring can cause flight. even if the power could be miniaturized to this extent, won't it snap her finger off? ]
How does it work?
no subject
it's actually not made of gold, it's made of valorium, an element not yet discovered.
one would think that, but comics logic]
I just have to think about flying and there I go. [she uses it to rise about a foot in the air] See? It can go pretty fast, too.
no subject
Does it run on pixie dust? [ because at this point - it may as well. ]
no subject
Nope. According to Lyle, Brainy was experimenting with the density of valorium and got interrupted, making the metal lighter than air instead. It's a Legion thing. All of us have them.
no subject
he should probably go ahead and give up on understanding, but that has never been his style. ]
May I try it?
no subject
she shrugs and begins to work the ring off of her finger] Yeah, sure. But be careful. It can be hard to get used to at first.
