Intro Log: Ugh, Talk to the Hand

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for February
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: February 10th-14th
Warnings: None

Welcome to Hadriel. Your first glimpse of your new home is maybe not the most welcome - you awaken on the floor of the colosseum, surrounded by sand and walls and... trees? Yes, trees. Along with you and the other newcomers, a number of Territorial Oaks have arrived in Hadriel. They look just like normal trees, except for those welcoming smiles - oh, and they don't like you at all. They move fast, hit hard, and if you manage to bring one down it'll go out in a large, dangerous explosion. This may have you rethinking your stance on clear-cutting.

While you're trying to avoid the trees, you might come across a few of the other things the Door has deposited in the colosseum for your (its?) entertainment. Namely, a bunch of toys that no one has played with in years. But maybe one of them will tickle your fancy?

Once you've finished indulging your 90's nostalgia, feel free to look around. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers February 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

[ honestly, he can sort of get that - hang the thing that took her sister, kid logic and all. ]

You're welcome.

[ he gives her another fortifying smile and retracts his arm. ]

How far's your place?
toiletseat_girl: (swallow that horizon)

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2019-03-05 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[okay, looking at it from that perspective, it does make kind of a warped sense.

she smiles back, a little less shy]

It's this way. [she points to the right] Not far. I'm pretty sure we have canned soup along with stuff for sandwiches.

[personal profile] freewilling 2019-03-06 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
[ he turns towards the right ]

Got my fingers crossed. [ hot soup sounds like a dream, honestly. ]
toiletseat_girl: (overlooked like a puzzle book)

sorry, DW ate the notification!

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2019-03-06 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[she starts to lead the way]

I think you're gonna be lucky. Last time the stores had Campbell's I kind of stocked up. Most of the time, the stores either have generic versions of stuff or stuff in a language I can't read. [or packages of ramen. so much ramen in every flavor imaginable]
freewilling: (22)

it's all good <3

[personal profile] freewilling 2019-03-07 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
No kidding, Campbell's, really?

[ something familiar, in this place, is nothing short of miraculous and he's really hoping he is in luck because he seriously could use a bit of it. ]

Still running strong in 2003 and this place? I guess Jersey's got one thing to be proud of.
toiletseat_girl: (do you know where my spark is?)

thank you! <3

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2019-03-08 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I was just as shocked as you are, believe me. We almost never get nice stuff like that.

[she's mentally going over their inventory of food right now and she thinks she can offer a choice. because she wasn't kidding when she said she stocked up. she loaded two entire duffel bags and dragged them back home]

God, would you believe that during the sixties, this artist painted pictures of Campbell's soup cans and sold them for millions of dollars? I'm absolutely not shitting you.

To be frank I'm having a hard time picturing the 60s at all.

[ the world very much feels like it's about to end around him. he knows that just like after the great war - it will likely spin on, and there will be time for art and literature and film and life beyond the war. but there's still a disconnect between that knowledge and the sights of ruins and battles seared into his brain. ]

Last I checked it was 1943. [ 2003 is truly beyond his imagination, though it is fun to try and picture the kind of stuff that would be featured in that year's stark expo. he's probably not creative enough to figure that out. ]
toiletseat_girl: (getting used to thinking of you as a)

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2019-03-09 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
The sixties are kind of a mixed bag. Some good stuff, a lot of bad stuff.

[the world doesn't end. it endures. it endures some really bad shit that she doesn't want to tell him about because what's the use? it can't be stopped and all it would do is make him depressed about what happens next to the world. just like she sort of doesn't want to know much about what's happening in the future of Earth. her Earth is going badly enough, she doesn't want to know if it gets worse]

Damn. You really are a long way from home. If you need help getting used to the techy stuff, lemme know. [her world has no such thing, though the world she's going to when everything is done does]
freewilling: (02)

[personal profile] freewilling 2019-03-09 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, I'll be sure to do that.

[ he nods. he has no doubt that he'll need it, but it's embarrassing and he wants to be able to figure it out on his own. he's tech-savvy enough, for his day and age, and he always excelled at school. despite everything being so foreign here, he still can't quite grasp how difficult it will all prove to be for him to master. ]
toiletseat_girl: (the smart money's on Harlow)

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2019-03-09 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, cool.

[and they've reached the house that George shares. she opens the door for him to go inside. the house is clean, neat, but it looks like people have been living there for a long time. she leads the way into the kitchen and opens the cupboards, inspecting the contents]

Okay, so we've got chicken noodle soup, tomato, soup, and clam chowder to choose from.
freewilling: (22)

[personal profile] freewilling 2019-03-10 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[ she may as well have offered him a three course feast of his choosing, from the look on his face, instead of a choice of canned soup. it's been so long since he's had a choice at all, and honestly he's torn.

he walks up to the cupboards to look at the aforementioned cans himself, mouth watering just from the labels.

can't beat the classic on a cold day, though, so eventually he makes his choice. ]

Chicken noodle sounds perfect.
toiletseat_girl: (c'est magnifique etre sympathique)

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2019-03-12 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
[by Hadriel standards, this is a feast. usually, the food options are unappealing (cactus pieces? seriously?), in a foreign language so you don't know what you're getting, or both.

she does a little flourish with her hands at the cans and grins at him]

Sounds good. I'll just take that [she pulls the can down off of the shelf, the goes to get a pot to put on the stove and a can opener. which she then uses to open the can and empty the contents into the stove, which she turns on] and get it started. Don't worry, I can manage soup. I can even do sandwiches if you like tuna.
freewilling: (32)

[personal profile] freewilling 2019-03-13 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
[ as long as it's not rotten, he's not about to get picky about it. ]

Love it, thank you. [ two proteins in one meal? feels like christmas and his birthday combined. ] Do you mind? [ he nods towards a glass, looking to help himself to some water. ]
toiletseat_girl: (hey what are you looking at?)

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2019-03-13 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[none of it's rotten. they had a couple of lean months before Hope (who provides the food) showed up, but now it's back to normal]

Sure, no problem. Do you like your tuna with sweet pickles or without? [and she goes about getting a can of tuna out of another cupboard and a loaf of bread from the bread box, then opens the can of tuna, draining the excess water down the drain. and she notices him nod towards the desk] Nope, go for it.
freewilling: (15)

[personal profile] freewilling 2019-03-13 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ all these little tastes of home, they make him smile before they even hit his mouth. frankly, if this is all a trick and she's about to kill him, it might still be worth it, just to have a taste of real food first. ]

With, if it's all the same to you. [ he pours himself a glass of water and empties it with one gulp. he shouldn't be surprised at his own thirst, but it still catches him a little off guard. he pours another, and down the hatch it goes. the abundance is frankly dizzying. ]
toiletseat_girl: (wednesday she's looking for a friend)

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2019-03-13 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[she's not about to kill him. he's nice. besides, even when she was a Reaper, she was more the middleman than the actual cause of death. which she learned the hard way when she tried intervening in the deaths of others, trying to save them]

Sure, no problem. [she fetches the jar of pickles from the fridge and a small knife to stab them out of the jar, opens it, retrieves two pickles and slices them into pieces, then going over to assemble the sandwich. and by the time she's done, the soup is hot and ready. she gets a bowl and spoon and pours the soup into it, offering him first the bowl and then the sandwich on a napkin.

she does notice how thirsty he is, but she's learned a bit of tact while here, so she won't question it]

Here you go.
freewilling: (07)

[personal profile] freewilling 2019-03-14 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ he tries to be the kind of man who makes his ma proud. he drains another glass of water and gratefully accepts the soup. ]

Thank you, smells amazing.

[ he puts the bowl down on the table, but waits for her to join him before he digs in. she is, after all, both his host and a dame, certain social norms must be attended. ]
toiletseat_girl: (damn right it's better than yours)

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2019-03-14 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[George would say that he's doing a great job of it so far]

Sure, it's no problem. Eat up.

[she joins him at the table, but doesn't get herself something to eat. she could eat if she wanted to, but she doesn't technically have to. and she figures he could use the whole can of soup]
freewilling: (18)

[personal profile] freewilling 2019-03-16 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
[ that would make him happy to hear. ]

Thank you.

[ it can stands repeating. she's not wrong; he goes through the meal like a starving man. in the back of his mind he thinks he probably shouldn't eat this much this fast, it's likely to make him sick, but he can't help himself. war rations weren't great to begin with, prisoner rations are even worse; he feels famished.

he wipes his mouth when the food is gone, and smiles, feeling revived and surprisingly not unwell at all. ]

Sorry, it's been a while. [ it's rude to eat that fast, he wasn't even being a conversationalist, but it was sorely needed. ]
toiletseat_girl: (getting used to thinking of you as a)

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2019-03-16 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[unfortunately, George fails at peopleing, so she likely won't say it out loud]

Sure, no problem.

[she doesn't try to make conversation as he eats. he's too busy eating and she figures that butting in would be rude. she's trying to avoid being rude lately. so far she's doing well, but she's completely aware of what a pain in the ass she can be.

she smiles back when he finishes]

It's cool. Don't worry about it. There's still enough for another bowl if you want it? [she figures he could use it]
freewilling: (22)

[personal profile] freewilling 2019-03-16 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[ it would be a strange thing to come out and say, to be fair. ]

How can I say no to that?
toiletseat_girl: (blood can be pretty)

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2019-03-16 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[it would be, but shes's said stranger]

Then don't. [she collects the bowl from him, goes over to the stove where the soup pot still sits and pours what remains back the the bowl. then she goes over to him with the bowl and hands it back over] Here you go.

So, how're you liking the place so far?
freewilling: (18)

[personal profile] freewilling 2019-03-17 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

[ he digs right in, but eats at a more respectable pace this time around, allowing him time to speak between mouthfulls. ]

Can't complain about the hospitality, and food's an improvement.
toiletseat_girl: (she was a happy girl the day that she)

[personal profile] toiletseat_girl 2019-03-17 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, no problem.

[she's not quite sure where she's supposed to be looking while he eats. looking straight at him would be weird, but avoiding him would be weird, too. so she mostly does little sidelong glances on occasion mixed with finding the wood grain of the table absolutely fascinating.

she smiles at him]
Here's . . . kinda weird? But not so bad, once you get used to it.
freewilling: (09)

[personal profile] freewilling 2019-03-19 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
[ he doesn't seem the least bit bothered about the direction of her gaze. he returns a smile after swallowing down a mouthful. ]

How long does that take?
