Waking up in Hadriel certainly has its down sides, but if this weird murdercave city is good at one thing, it's keeping people entertained. As you awaken on the hard ground of the colosseum, you might see a rectangular cardboard box lying near you. Ignore it for now, as you get your bearings, but if you get bored? Well, you'll find these exciting and unique board games will keep you entertained!
But how could you possibly get bored, when there are plenty of cute monsters around to keep you company? Sharing the colosseum with all the new arrivals are Tonberries. In addition to their natural cuteness defense, they also carry very large knives. They're slow-moving and look innocent and even friendly, but be careful - one strike from that knife and you'll be a bloody mess. They won't attack unless you get too close, but who doesn't want to hug a Tonberry? And of course, if you attack, they'll counter with extreme prejudice.
Managed to resist the urge to hug a Tonberry? Safely escaped from the clutches of the colosseum, new board game in tow? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers September 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

she watches the new arrival grapple with the little devil creature of the month for a moment, eventually deciding to step forward.
and send a knife flying at it. )
They're slow. Can always run.
( it's easier, because these things like to fucking counterattack and it's annoying. )

Richie has just enough time to give a half smile in appreciation of this person's weapon of choice and their skill with the blade before there's another counter attack from the Tonberry. Thankfully the repeated attacks seem to slow down its reaction time, leaving an opening.]
Running's for babies.
[He pulls the newcomer's knife from the body of the Tonberry and tosses it back in her direction, aiming for it to land on the ground. The grappling between Richie and the creature continues, with the followup spoken through gritted teeth.]
They can still come after you if they're slow. Can't if they're dead.

Point taken. ( speaking of tonberries, she's... just going to kick one that has been creeping up on her. a boot to the face is a good way of getting rid of these blighters, right? ) Just seem like they don't want to die.
( that's an understatement. these fuckers are hard to kill. even Faith's fire barely affected them. )

[Though Richie's voice is strained from the physicality of being locked in with the Tonberry, otherwise his voice is level and even. This place is new, and he's not sure why he's here, but he feels more at ease with the option to bring something to its knees.
The thought of trying things spurs him to take a new angle. Leaving one arm to push against the grip of the Tonberry, Richie withdraws his gun from his suit jacket. He fires once into the Tonberry's gut. When it opens its mouth in a pained cry, Richie takes a risk to reach inside its mouth and fire down into its throat. He's able to get in two shots before the creature closes its mouth in its death throws. The Tonberry is near death, but now that it struggles to live it's stronger and more unpredictable than ever.]
We can finish it off. Just don't use whatever shit failed last time.

... so, there might be a bit of a blade sticking out of the other side of the tonberry. well, fuck.
she inhales sharply. ) Can't produce fire anyway.
no subject
Sure enough the blade is a welcome sharpness and he breathes deeply at the cut to his index finger.]
You're real.
[Which means the fire stuff must be too.]
no subject
well.
she can safely say that's the first time someone has done that to her knife. Kate breathes out through her nose, dips into the bag at her thigh and pulls out a plaster, offering it to him. )
Aye. Long story. Best talked about outside of here.
( shall we? )
no subject
Yeah. Sounds good.
[Richie begins to walk in what he thinks is the right direction. If it's wrong he assumes that she'll do some course correcting pretty quickly.]
What's your name anyway?
no subject
Kate. You?
( she glances to the side every so often, just in case anything advances, knife still at the ready. )
no subject
[Taking his cue from her, Richie holds his own knife close. It seems like more than coincidence that his previous environment and this one has included fighting alongside someone named Kate. It's a common enough name, but the universe has its way of pulling people in certain directions.]
Last Kate I knew wasn't nearly as good with a knife. [a chainsaw tho...] Are you used to killing or something?
no subject
( that question tho- she actually snorts, just a little, under her breath. well. ) Helps you stay alive down here.
( she was used to it even before then, but all the same.
is that relevant? )
no subject
[His words aren't forceful. Just slow, matter-of-face, observant.]
There's adaptation and there's something familiar. Someone new doesn't come as prepared as you did.
no subject
( she thinks because the entire time blurs into one another when you have no calendar. tracking the time by the door, by whatever system Bruce has figured out - something, but not enough for certainty.
she glances down the tunnel as they walk through it, answers the question with her eyes towards a turn that doesn't lead out. )
... I was used to it before that.
no subject
[Why else would she dodge the question unless she felt ashamed? Protecting oneself, eliminating an obstacle, silencing the voices with a blood sacrifice if only for a minute -- all were perfectly acceptable reasons for ending a life.]
Why else would I have turned up in this place with a gun and a knife already on me? [The question's rhetorical as he matches her stride.] Anyone who doesn't think it's necessary hasn't ever had their life threatened. And those people can get fucked.
no subject
(and - whether it's acceptable or not - it will never be easy to end the life of someone possessed.) )
Point. ( those people exist because of the things she used to do. ) You need more bullets, you're gonna have to talk to one of the gods.
( that's a better topic than the philosophy of killing, surely. )
no subject
Well they can get fucked too. What do they require, blood sacrifice and a vow of silence?
no subject
well, into a cave. but it has better lighting than the tunnels. so that is something.) )
Monster corpse. ( well, technically, a corpse, but Kate doesn't know that. she just goes with monsters. )
