Intro Log: Don't Wake Tonberry

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Cute monsters, a way to pass the time, and plenty of newbies!

Waking up in Hadriel certainly has its down sides, but if this weird murdercave city is good at one thing, it's keeping people entertained. As you awaken on the hard ground of the colosseum, you might see a rectangular cardboard box lying near you. Ignore it for now, as you get your bearings, but if you get bored? Well, you'll find these exciting and unique board games will keep you entertained!

But how could you possibly get bored, when there are plenty of cute monsters around to keep you company? Sharing the colosseum with all the new arrivals are Tonberries. In addition to their natural cuteness defense, they also carry very large knives. They're slow-moving and look innocent and even friendly, but be careful - one strike from that knife and you'll be a bloody mess. They won't attack unless you get too close, but who doesn't want to hug a Tonberry? And of course, if you attack, they'll counter with extreme prejudice.

Managed to resist the urge to hug a Tonberry? Safely escaped from the clutches of the colosseum, new board game in tow? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers September 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

ASKDKFKSHS WAIT WHAT WHERE DID YOU COME FROM

It's rare that Cole is surprised anymore--here he'd learned not to be too shocked when something happened. The strangeness is bad enough when he knew there place, but he was still learning this one, and it was too loud to listen too closely. That didn't help, either.

But finding Dorian, though, that's surprising. Enough that he didn't approach there man right away, almost afraid that it wasn't really him. So he watched, on the edges, like he always did, just out of sight. He had to make sure.

Entirely, though, he couldn't keep just watching. It's all too close and to clouded, but he couldn't let him wander without help--even if it wasn't a friend. Still, who else could it be? No one else could be him because he wasn't anyone else. Maybe that was supposed to be what they meant. He could never understand the games that they played, here.

So he finally appeared right behind the made, at least courteous enough to speak softly. Maybe that would startle him less.

"Who keeps doing it?"

There was certainly such a thing as too quiet, and when the voice came behind him so suddenly, Dorian did start, his hand gripping the staff tighter, ready to swing it up into a defensive position... But a moment later he realized who the voice must belong to, a few scant moments before the face came into view as he spun around.

"Cole! Fancy seeing you here." He sounded happy to see the man, and he really was, it had been some time since he'd been taken from Thedas, and a familiar face was always welcome, even those belonging to creepy spirit humans. The light in the cave winked off his earrings and the ring set in his septum when he smiled, which probably made him look as different from his usual self as the unkempt hair and untrimmed beard.

"And the "who" is what I'm trying to figure out. Do you know who's responsible for bringing the two of us here?" He paused for a moment. "And do you know if anyone else from our world is here?" He wondered if it was anyone he knew, anyone he had previously met. Perhaps there was an Inquisitor here, though he doubted it was any of the ones he knew. Those were all very different.

One day, perhaps, he'd remember not to do that to people. But, at the least, he hadn't been killed for it yet, although here that might only be a matter of time. And yet it's a habit that he can't quite break.

"Hello, Dorian." It was strange seeing how different he was, but maybe things were different for him? It was different for the Inquisitor, too. He couldn't understand that, though, so he didn't try, only remembering the important parts and forgetting the rest quite happily. He'd only confuse himself even more and that wouldn't help anyone.

"I don't remember, exactly. It's...fuzzy, faded, forgotten. I let it fall to fly free. I think it was Hope and a door. You might have to ask him." The most direct thing he could say about it, and yet it still didn't make much sense.

"Yes. There's Cullen and Leliana and Cecily." Cecily may not be the Inquisitor he remembers, but here she is his Inquisitor. "Maybe there used to be Blackwall too. Cecily says so, but I forgot." He wasn't quite sure how the man had left, but evidently he had, and he'd let himself forget that too. He'd have been much happier if all of them had gone with him, but alas, here they were stuck.

As per usual, Cole's answers were cryptic and not altogether helpful. Dorian wasn't really expecting anything different though, so it was alright. "I will, once I figure out who this 'him' might be." It was funny how much less frustrating it felt talking to Cole, now that he had missed him.

He nodded, even if one of the names wasn't familiar at all. "Cecily? Is she the Inquisitor that's here?" Once again not his Inquisitor, but he hadn't expected anything different. And a Blackwall that had evidently been pulled away, again not unexpected. He wasn't terribly sorry that the Warden was gone, they only barely tolerated each other's presence.

"Hope is 'him.' He tries to help but he doesn't always get it right." Kind of like him, though that happened less and less often now that he was no longer stuck between human and spirit. It helped him help people to hear more.

He nodded, though, at the question of the Inquisitor. "Yes. But she's different." Before he'd been here, the Inquisitor has been Morenna Lavellan, but he didn't have a choice but to believe her here. She had the mark just like the elf had and she was just as bright to look at.

"She helps people too."

Dorian couldn't help but chuckle in amusement, the parallel between Cole and this Hope not lost on him. "Sounds rather familiar, doesn't it?" He wondered if he could expect a wooden duck on his pillow from Hope at some point.

He does smile though, a soft and genuine one, his eyes looking far away for a moment, remembering other Inquisitors. "Yes, they do that, don't they? All of them." He had yet to meet an Inquisitor that didn't try to help all they could, all but carrying the weight of everything on their own shoulders. Oh, they might not like it, might snark or complain or even drink their troubles. But they still did it.

"I don't know. Does it?" He hadn't really thought of that before. Or maybe he had and he'd just forgotten. It could be that, too. He knew he did that sometimes, but it helped him help everyone else. At least as much as he could.

He did look a little confused at the next thing Dorian said, though, touring his head to one side while he looked at the man, trying to pull some kind of sense out of it. Eventually, he just had to give up. Words didn't make sense here.

"I don't know. I haven't met all of them."
rebelarchivist: (It scares me half to death)

[personal profile] rebelarchivist 2016-09-15 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Dorian chuckled "Fair enough, I suppose that I have not either. Though I have met a goodly number. All of them wanted to help, in their own way." He looked over at Cole "I think that's why you get along with them." They both wanted to help people, even if he thought the Inquisitor was a bit more... effective with their help.

"Yes. Heal, the hurt, help the helpless. She helps." Both of the ones he knew did. And he wouldn't have stayed if they didn't help. Here it was different but still the same. She still tried to help if she could, so he had to help her too.

"Will you stay and help too, Dorian?"
rebelarchivist: (Living beyond your years)

[personal profile] rebelarchivist 2016-09-15 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"I suppose I should, shouldn't I? For as long as I'm here, at least." Before he got jerked along to yet another world. "That sounds like the ones I've met." His heart aches sharply for a moment Yes, it sounded a lot like Eliana, like something she would have said.

[personal profile] fadeling 2016-09-16 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Cecily would like if you did." A pause then, before he continued. "I would like if you did." Maybe that was selfish, wanting them to stay here where they got hurt, but at least he wasn't alone.
rebelarchivist: (So take another breath)

[personal profile] rebelarchivist 2016-09-18 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, with both of you urging me to help, how can I possibly refuse?" Even if Cecily had yet to ask him. She was the Inquisitor and, while he was reserving his complete and utter loyalty until he had actually met her, Cole had been, in a very strange and roundabout way, a rather good judge of character.

[personal profile] fadeling 2016-09-18 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
He couldn't exactly say that he wasn't happy to hear that, and yet he felt a twinge of guilt for wanting to keep the man here with him. He could help him better if he knew where he was, but at the same time, it was probably better if he was at home in Thedas where he knew the world.

"Thank you. That will help."
rebelarchivist: (You'll drink yourself to death)

[personal profile] rebelarchivist 2016-09-19 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Good. Do you remember who your Inquisitor was? The one that you met in Thedas?" In other words, not Cecily. Dorian was perpetually curious about the various realities that everyone had come from, and this was the first Cole he had met, so he was curious how his world was different from Dorian's own, or any of the others that he had been told of. Before he'd lost his notes there had been nearly a dozen.

[personal profile] fadeling 2016-09-19 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes." He'd likely never forget her. At least, he didn't want to. Those were memories that were precious to him, so he kept them closer than he held the others, the ones that tangled and tied him down. She would never have allowed that.

"Hey name was Morenna. Is Morenna. She's an elf. She healed, she helped and she let me help too. She made me more so I could hear, unbowed, unbroken, unbound."
rebelarchivist: (So take another breath)

[personal profile] rebelarchivist 2016-09-26 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Morenna Lavellan." Female, Dalish, probable mage, his brain filled in lines and checked off boxes. "Unbound you said..." The words sounded familiar, like the ones his Cole had said. "She helped you be more human? Is she a mage?" Mahanon had been a mage, the Inquisitor he had met in Arda. He wondered what other questions he could get Cole to answer. Or at least, which answers he would get that he would be able to understand what the young man meant.

[personal profile] fadeling 2016-09-26 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes. But I'm not a person." Varric hadn't liked that. Solas was happier, but they both eventually learned to at least live with the decision. "She made me more me so I could hear and help more. The little hurts I wouldn't have noticed, the small secrets that are better spoken. I can hear and heal and help them all."
rebelarchivist: (Look out to the future)

[personal profile] rebelarchivist 2016-09-26 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, so not like his Cole. That was the problem with talking to someone who spoke in, not riddles, but like words were paint and there was a picture that one was making with them, so the individual strokes didn't matter quite so much.

"I see. And that makes you happier?" Did he even think of it that way? Dorian wasn't sure really, his Cole seemed to be getting the hang of it, and even then most of what he was happy about seemed to hinge on how he had made other people feel.

[personal profile] fadeling 2016-09-26 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes. I can hear more, heal more, help more." What would have happened had he been more of a person, though, he really couldn't say. He would still help people, but it would have been harder without the hearing. Maybe that didn't matter, but he couldn't remember ever being a person. He'd let that part of him go.
