A dark shadow looms over Hadriel on the morning of May 16th. There's a tension in the air, something palpable, as if everything has gone still and is ready to snap. You've been waiting for the other shoe to drop for hours now, and you're getting to the point where you're starting to wish that it would just happen already so that you can stop feeling this way.
Of course, when it does happen, it's not quite like you expect.
Maybe it's a tiger leaping out of your closet, claws extended. Maybe it's a faceless slenderman, stepping out from around the corner or a monster with beak and claws ripping open your shower curtain when you're most vulnerable- but within seconds, after you've been startled half to death by the monsters, they're gone. They vanish in a puff of smoke, or dissipate into glitter, or become something silly instead for a few brief moments before disappearing entirely.
Weird. But not unendurable, I guess. The bright side is that there will also be a few demon cats that have also made their way through the door. No two cats are ever in the same location, but there seems to be enough of them to go around, though the toothy one can be a bit vicious. Still, they aren't untameable, and might make nice pets, as long as you don't mind a bloody finger or two when it's time for lunch!► This log covers May 16th-May 20th.

[No point in arguing that, even if he's trying to tread carefully here.]
I didn't speak with him for that long, but he seems to embody the traits you were interested in lessening in yourself.
[And so being around him is kind of detrimental to that process.]

He has skills I need. We build weapons for the Guard.
no subject
I saw that he was carrying a type of gun that I was unfamiliar with; do you know anything about it?
[His tone is casual and curious, rather than intent in the way it usually is when he's asking about thing.]
no subject
[Maketh isn't sure why that matters.]
no subject
It didn't work when he tried to fire it, so I was curious as to why. Particularly if he's familiar enough with weapons to be helping you manufacture them.
no subject
I suspect he was making a point. A blaster doesn't work like your pistol does. Hux isn't the type to carry a defective weapon.
no subject
How do they work? Generally.
[It's both a question of curiosity and something that he thinks would be very good to know if there are problems in the future.]

[Maketh grimaces. She's not a fan of bullets.]
Bullets are very--inconvenient. I hadn't realized how difficult they were until I came here.
no subject
Have you had need to use them often here?
[How much are people shooting at each other in this place?]
no subject
Of course. The events have been gentle lately. They have not been so in the past.
no subject
I've heard about some of them.
[Some in particular sounded really awful, though he'd been holding out some hope that people had been able to sort things out peacefully for the most part.]
no subject
I would avoid Hux, if you can. Someone like you is a tempting target.
no subject
A part of him wants to state that he's not an easy target, but that's his delicate pride and ego talking and he doesn't need to indulge it. Besides, Maketh is not someone he'd want to talk to about this anyway.
So he gives a small nod, gaze fixed on the far wall.]
I'll do my best to avoid crossing paths with him. Is there anything I should know?
[Places to stay away from, subjects to stay off of if he does end up in a conversation, things of that sort.]
no subject
Don't ask about personal relationships. Or his father. If he thinks you've picked up on a weakness---
[Maketh grimaces.]
Hide it if you do.
no subject
Got it.
[He looks back over at her.]
And thank you, for the advice.

We should schedule another session, but that can wait until this event is over.
[And it should, for so many reasons.]
no subject
[Maketh hesitates.]
Stay alive, Doctor Sweets.
no subject
That's the plan.
[And he's generally pretty good at it, with a notable exception.]
Be careful yourself, and... Remember that you call or message me, if you need something.
[He hadn't extended the offer in their first session, although he normally would, because he'd still been getting a feel for the situation. But although Maketh's behavior still worries him and he has concerns that she can be dangerous in certain situations, perhaps even unpredictably, he doesn't think she's actively malicious. At least not toward him, anyway.
So it should be safe enough to offer to help, and if she's hanging out with someone like Hux, then he really thinks she should have someone to reach out to who isn't a close friend. It can be a lot more difficult to talk to friends, especially in this type of situation.]
