Event Log: Jumpscares

Who: All characters participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Jumpscares event
Where: All over the city!
When: May 16th-May 20th
Warnings: Some startling jumpscares, interdimensional demon cats, the usual

A dark shadow looms over Hadriel on the morning of May 16th. There's a tension in the air, something palpable, as if everything has gone still and is ready to snap. You've been waiting for the other shoe to drop for hours now, and you're getting to the point where you're starting to wish that it would just happen already so that you can stop feeling this way.

Of course, when it does happen, it's not quite like you expect.

Maybe it's a tiger leaping out of your closet, claws extended. Maybe it's a faceless slenderman, stepping out from around the corner or a monster with beak and claws ripping open your shower curtain when you're most vulnerable- but within seconds, after you've been startled half to death by the monsters, they're gone. They vanish in a puff of smoke, or dissipate into glitter, or become something silly instead for a few brief moments before disappearing entirely.

Weird. But not unendurable, I guess. The bright side is that there will also be a few demon cats that have also made their way through the door. No two cats are ever in the same location, but there seems to be enough of them to go around, though the toothy one can be a bit vicious. Still, they aren't untameable, and might make nice pets, as long as you don't mind a bloody finger or two when it's time for lunch!

Some, yes.

[But he was never very... Good at it. And considering his more than slightly unorthodox manner of becoming a special agent in addition to psychologist, he'd been able to--for better or worse--skip some of training, which worked well enough considering his main role as an agent was as backup.]

Since I was always with Booth or another agent, it was a lot more likely we'd end up in a shootout than a physical fight.

[Of course, the first time that wasn't true he ended up being murdered in a parking garage, so to say that he should've spent more time on learning self-defense is more than fair.

He's silent for a few seconds at the memory, gaze unfocused, but then manages to look somewhat sheepish at Rosen's last statement.]

I should probably leave it at the apartment.

[Even if he's nervous about being unarmed, for the exact same reason of not being great in a fight.]

I take it Booth is a colleague?

[If the question sounds somewhat distracted it is probably because Lee feels torn on the issue of the gun. On the one hand he's always been a staunch pacifist, but on the other hand this cave is no ordinary situation and Lance has already been used as someone's punching bag. He doesn't necessarily want to leap at the idea of Lance walking around unarmed.

But then again if he is too readily drawing his firearm at the God's trickery, it may be for the best it get left behind. At least until Lance has a better feel for the rhythm of the cave.

So for the moment he avoids giving a definitive answer on the issue. He wants to mull it over more]

Have you ever killed someone?

[Lance--for once--doesn't notice the distracted tone, mostly because he's busy brightening a little at the question about Booth.]

Yeah, he's who I work with pretty much every day, and we're friends outside of work too.

[Booth is the closest friend he's ever had, actually, and there's more than a little hero-worship there.

Rosen's next question is a surprise and he hesitates, expression going more serious, before he shakes his head.]

I've never even shot someone.

[And he's glad for that, because the last thing he wants to do is have to hurt anyone, even if he'll do so in self-defense. He got in a few hits on the man who'd attacked him just before arriving in Hadriel, and he knows he would've shot him--and killed him, if necessary--if he'd had the chance to, but as of now he's never killed anyone. Hopefully that won't need to change in this place.]

Let's keep it that way.

[There's a solemn before Rosen sets his hands behind him, palms flat on the ground as he leans back.]

Now. Tell me about Booth.

[Lance's change in mood, the sudden enthusiasm talking about his friend, has managed to win over a faint smile from Rosen. and he's committing that name, 'Booth', to memory. A reference point for something that makes Lance happy.]

[He nods once, in agreement; he'd very much like to keep it that way, and he's going to leave his gun in the apartment until this is all over.

Lance smiles again as the subject turns back to Booth, and he thinks over exactly what to say.]

Booth is the best agent in our office, and so he handles most of the murder investigations. He's really good at what he does, and just a... Really strong, devoted person.

[He's one of those people it's hard not to look up to.]

We started working together about seven years ago, when I was assigned to evaluate his and Dr. Brennan's partnership; she's a forensic anthropologist that helps in murder investigations.

[He grins a bit more, glancing over sideways at Rosen.]

They were so obviously in love with each other, but it took three years before they finally figured it out.

[Its endearing the way Lance now gushes over these people. Where normally Rosen has to wheedle and prod, Lance is now volunteering his thoughts and feelings freely.

He even wins an actual laugh from Rosen when he slides that bit of gossip his way at the end.]

Alright [Rosen slides his hands away from where they had been supporting himself, and flops backwards so he's now lying on the ground, hands on his stomach and knees bent so his feet press flat to the ground. From this new vantage point he smiles up at Lance]

You are going to have to start that story from the beginning.

[Maybe it will help his nerves forget the earlier unpleasantness. If only for little while]

[Lance loves Booth and Brennan--and Daisy, of course, and the rest of the Jeffersonian crew--very dearly, and since he's very unconcerned about Rosen using any of this information against them if they ever show up he's more than happy to talk about them. They are, after all, some of the most important people in his life.

He raises his eyebrows slightly as Rosen lays down on the ground, amused and glad to see he seems to be feeling at least a little better.]

Okay, well, I met them in their third year of working together, right after I started at the FBI. Neither of them was happy to be assigned to meet with me; I was really annoying and Booth is something like fifteen years older than me, and Dr. Brennan doesn't believe in psychology.

[So all of that together made it pretty difficult to gain their respect.]

They were so obviously interested in each other but they wouldn't admit it to themselves, let alone say anything to the other one. I was making some headway with them for awhile, but then they accused me of being a serial killer.

[He's not joking, even though it's said casually for the exact reason that it's ridiculous. He'd been very hurt at the time by the suspicion, but at this point looking back it's really pretty funny; if it hadn't been for the real murderer--sort of--being someone so close to the team, he so would've used the false accusation to get free guilt meals out of Booth for as long as possible.]
