As is par for the course in Hadriel, at some point throughout the day- waking up, making breakfast, doing laundry- you find an item. This isn't just any item though, it's a tried and true paintball gun, shining and just waiting to be picked up. This gun never runs out of ammunition, never malfunctions, and almost always hits the target that you're aiming at, so say hello to your new best friend for the next week.
Touching or picking up the gun will fill you with a competitive surge, which will likely increase when you find the note that's left with it, saying nothing more than be the last one standing. With instructions like that, how could you lose?
Well, you could lose if someone else shoots you. But never fear, there's a plan for that too! Even if you embrace the throes of unconsciousness, the gods have got your back and will eventually teleport you into a grand party where prizes will be handed out based on how long you survived. Awesome! At this party is also the traditional copious amounts of food and drink, as well as everyone's favorite goddess Delight and everyone's slightly-less-favorite goddess Rage!
Happy paintballing, and may the odds be ever in your favor!► This log covers September 22nd-29th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you fall and break your neck or something because you can't die in paintball, please let us know here.

[Margaery's admission to abstaining from the "game" does earn her a few points, though. The angry tension in her shoulders relax a little.]
That does help, actually. Good to know that some people had the sense not to play.
[She pauses.] Were you shot?
no subject
such a game is beyond Margaery's abilities. she felt the urge to do so, sure, but she repressed it as best as she could]
Not everyone is content to be subject to the whims of those calling themselves gods.
[Marg nods] Yes, I was. It was unpleasant. And it ruined my dress.
no subject
No, we're not. Not when their whims involve hurting each other.
[Regardless of how it appeared, Rey can't help but see it that way. Paint or not.]
The paint is a bitch to get out. If that's all there was to it, though, it would be a different story -- and not those carelessly incapacitating each other on the pretense of a damn "game". [Bitter, much? Yes she is.]
no subject
Do such events happen often? Ones where we're expected to harm one another to feed one of the creatures calling themselves gods?
[well, there was no way of knowing that the comas were only temporary afflictions]
Such games sew conflict and discord when we should all be working together.
no subject
Sort of. It's mostly Rage's doing, but usually it's something external, like a hoard of undead or monsters. One time we had the "pleasure" [air quotes are practically audible] of being killed or attacked by doubles who looked like us.
[Fun times. Rey wasn't killed, but she sure didn't appreciate being buried alive.]
Agreed. If the Null are smart, they'll try to plan their next attack during incidents where we're too busy taking each other out.
no subject
As though we don't have enough monsters to deal with already. And attacked by your own doubles? That doesn't even make any sense!
[who would? that sounds horrific]
That would seem like the best plan. We'd all be so busy trying to kill one another, we'd be defenseless against an outside threat.
no subject
A lot of shit here doesn't make sense. Though they were evidently trying to replace the originals.
[After a while, you sadly learn to embrace the insanity of this place. Hell, it's not like Rey's life was ever sane to begin with.]
This last week would have been a perfect time, too. Even if people weren't dying, they were still vulnerable to attack. With Hope being the prime target, we can't afford to keep brushing off death as a temporary state. [A concept that just seems like madness on its own to Rey, even as someone who's died repeatedly back in her own world.]
no subject
Could people tell the difference between the copy and the original?
[Marg has dealt with insanity. she had Cersei Lannister as a mother-in-law]
I am the last person who'd brush off death as temporary. I died before I came here. I'm in no hurry to die a second time, even if it is temporary.
no subject
[There are worse things that can happen to you than dying, after all.
[Rey raises her brows at Margaery's comment about dying, but isn't surprised because she's heard this sort of thing before.]
Well, you're not the only one around these parts. If it's one arguably good thing that comes with this place, it's that the alternative for some is much worse.
no subject
[yeah, there's torture. prolonged torture would be worse than just dying
she's heard that she's not the only one brought back to life by this place]
...well, my death is part of why I no longer believe in gods. In my world, they preached about Seven Heavens or Seven Hells you could go to when you died. When I died, there was nothingness. And then I woke up here.
no subject
[Especially when you're someone who doesn't die in such conditions within a few mere hours. Rey at least managed to keep herself alive long enough to get dug up.]
Not even a bright light, huh?
[It was always dark whenever Rey died, but that's a place she doesn't enjoy revisiting. More reason for her not to bite it here.]
no subject
[Marg would probably go into a panic if she was buried alive, freak out, and use up all of her oxygen in the process]
No. There was nothing. Perhaps because I already had. . . doubts about the Faith of the Seven.
no subject
[Rey at least knew a few ways to make use of her time, since it wasn't like she could rely on Fear to prolong her air supply that time.]
Well. If it's any consolation, never saw much between deaths, either... though there was probably a reason for that. [Shrug.] Some people claim to have different experiences.
no subject
[Marg comes from an environment of privilege to, well, this]
Oh? So, you've died as well? And do you know what those other experiences are?
no subject
[Take that as you would.
[Despite the subject matter, she just shrugs.]
A few times, before coming here. Those were particularly... particular. [Because one could argue whether or not Rey is even "alive" by the normal human standards.] Some claim to see things when they're near death. Visions and things that they shouldn't have any knowledge of.
no subject
A few times? I'm so sorry. [Marg has no way of telling any different] I see. Perhaps they were--more at peace with themselves and their gods than I was when I died.
no subject
[Much as she likes Sorrow better than most of their bunch, she doesn't appreciate his means of obtaining power.
[Another shrug. She's not looking for sympathy; just stating facts.] Maybe. Who knows.
[Pause.]
Why did you have doubts about your faith?
no subject
[too bad, you're getting sympathy anyway]
[she takes a deep breath] I was--imprisoned by the Faith Militant. My brother was in prison because he preferred to lay with men and I was there because I lied to protect him.
no subject
[Not that Rey really helped not to make a display out of it. Fortunately, the marks on her face have since healed.
[She stares at Margaery for a moment.] Seriously? They still imprison people for that?
[Of course, "still" differs to "when" and "where" in both time and space.]
no subject
In Westeros, they do. I. I take it that it's no crime where you're from?
[she tries to pull herself together] I've--I've been terribly rude, haven't I? My name is Margaery Tyrell, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. What's your name?
no subject
No, not for a long time. [She doesn't even think about it in those ways. But then, her own relationships might say enough.
[She blinks.]
Oh. Um. It's Rey. Just Rey. No fancy titles or anything like... that.
[Why do people have to have such mouthful names?]
no subject
Truly? Where are you from? [because Marg is from Westeros, a continent which hasn't progressed much past the Dark Ages in about a thousand years]
It's a pleasure to meet you officially, Rey.
no subject
Earth, though it's evidently one of various different versions of it.
[Since she's met with people from the same world but not "her" world. Which might be a blessing for them, really.]
Yes, um. Likewise. [Introductions are always weird things to Rey.] You said you were a queen?
no subject
So many of you are from Earth! What's it like?
[Marg knows little of Earth, other than the music is strange]
[she smiles] I was! Three times, in fact.
no subject
[Even though Rey is old enough to have more than enough knowledge of the old days.
[She blinks.] Three times? How is that even possible?
