By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

Okay, Law. 「He should probably give him his, but who doesn't know who he is anyway? It's silly to even think about it.」

No, I'll leave that to other more competent people.

[don't worry Atem, he knows exactly who you are. It just hasn't come up yet. He stretches to test a couple of them, not quite done yet, but getting flaky and grilled]

Things like this, anyone can do if they have to. It's good to know these things, in case you find yourself somewhere like this place.

「When Atem finally sets on the idea that cooking is like a waiting game of some sort, he stops fretting about it, not that he's not awfully hungry though, but he's not sending reproaching stares at the not-cook anymore, just at the fish.」

Anyone... How did you learn? Did someone teach you too?

[it's Atem, he's told this kid more than he's told anyone else here. And, there's always the very likely chance that he won't remember anything said or done to his kid-self]

When I was young. Older than you, but still a kid. I had to learn quickly, because Cora-san probably would have set himself on fire if I didn't do the cooking.

[actually he did set himself on fire at least a dozen times, but shh. Doesn't count.]

「Not only Law is a little weird, but his friends are weirder!」

[he sighs, but there's something fond about it. He'd give anything to have that clumsy dumbass alive again, then he could just let everyone see for themselves why Law is Law.

Oh look, one of the thinner fillets is done. Since Atem wanted food, he gets it first, offered right on the skewer]

「That makes the kid chuckle.」

He sounds silly.

「Oh Ra, yes! Food! Finally-- he takes it with particular glee and blows on it until it's not too hot. And he takes a bite.

It tastes...

He doesn't know...

The expression on Atem's face is hard to decipher. There is disappointment, confusion, maybe some disgust. He stares at it for a moment instead. Law did say food was scarce so, he probably isn't going to get better than this, it's food and after the initial bite he chews a little more, it only shows he was actually hungry.」

[tastes fishy and a little salty, yes? That's all he's got. Look at those mad cooking skills, ha ha...ha...

Yeah he doesn't care. Food is food, right now, and the next one goes to Law. He gnaws on it like it's gourmet five star cuisine.]

「It's so weird to him he could cry, but he doesn't so, there's that. But he finishes the fish and he's not sure if he wants more, even if he's still a little hungry. Besides, Law said he was hungry too, better leave it to him.」

[Aw, poor Atem. But even if he's bigger and this is his favorite, Law doesn't hoard the rest to himself. It's finished cooking by now, but he only takes one and offers the other to Atem]

「Sorry, Law, friendo, but he shakes his head.」

You're bigger than me, you need more food.

「Look, he thought the same. It's the perfect excuse.」

[it is a classic excuse. He'll accept it only because Atem looks a bit awkward and uncertain and he's not going to push. So. Two-fisting fish it is. He knows better than to waste food, especially now.]
