By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.
And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!
Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...► This log covers January 23rd-Feb 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you trip over a kid and die, please let us know here.

Mmm, okay, okay. Where'd you last see him? Maybe he's still around there.
[He's starting to put it together, at least. This kid is crazy trusting, and he's gonna use that to his advantage.]
no subject
We were out in the gardens. I was trying to get him to climb a tree with me...
[He looks around, confused and a little lost.]
But this doesn't look like the gardens at all. I don't know where this is.
no subject
Yeah, sounds like you got mega lost. But uh, good for you, I totally know this place.
[No he does not.]
Okay, so. You know what the first rule of getting lost is, right?
no subject
[It's rare for Rhy to get lost, since he usually has guards around him, but he's had that drilled into him. That and find one of the city guard, who would all recognize him.
But this isn't London. Maybe.]
Somebody's looking for me, I bet. Probably lots of people.
no subject
Yeah! See, you got it. But you also gotta be somewhere safe, right? Wouldn't be good if you were waitin' and got hurt. And then I'll help you find somebody.
[He doesn't take his hand, not wanting to push the other boy away, but does gesture for him to move with him down the street. One of his long ears flicks with his hand movements; who knows if Rhy has seen an elf before, but Taako's assuming he has.]
no subject
[There isn't even anyone around but them, at least not at the moment. Rhy is hesitant to wander off with a complete stranger.
But he brightens when Taako's ear twitches. There's no elves in Arnes.]
I like your ears! Did you grow them yourself? Will you show me how?
no subject
Uh... yeah? Have you never seen an elf before?
[What kind of weird human camp did this kid come from?]
You don't grow 'em if you're not an elf. That's what elves do.
no subject
[He sounds excited and pleased at the opportunity to see one now, in fact. There's no elves in Arnes, or in his world, as far as he knows.]
You look pretty much like me except for the ears, so I thought maybe you did something special to get them. Too bad. I bet I'd look great with ears like that.
no subject
Nope! Elves only. An’ they make everything look good. Plus they let me hear, like, super well.
[Just to show it off, he lets them perk up into the air, alert. Still being young, they’re still a little bit big for his head, making him look a bit rabbitlike. When put up against his head like this, they clear the top of it, pointing up to the sky.]
no subject
[Overcome by delight at that sight, Rhy claps, eyes lighting up.]
But don't they make it hard to wear hats and stuff? I bet they get in the way.
[The important question...]
no subject
Nah. They just move outta the way. Or sometimes elves with really big ones have holes ’n their hats for ‘em. But it’s not like, an issue.
[… Actually, another plan.]
Here, I’ll show you. Lemme see what’s on your head.
no subject
[He takes off his circlet, looks at it.]
Well, this wouldn't be a problem, because it's just a little ring. There's nothing to get in the way of big ears like yours. Hats have that whole brim situation.
[He does not hand it over, because why? It's nothing like a hat.]
I bet we can find you a hat, though! There's all kinds of stuff in these buildings.
no subject
I don’t need a hat. If I needed one I’d’ve gotten one.
[He goes to lead Rhy further into the city, pretending to check around corners for dangerous stuff before he turns one.]
So what is that thing, anyway? The, uh, whatever that is.
[He points towards the circlet.]
no subject
[He pokes it with a finger, so it rests more firmly on his head.]
It's so everyone knows I'm the prince, I guess. My father says to be sure I wear it anytime I leave the palace.
no subject
Here, this is a safe spot. But hmm, how are they gonna find you, if… wait! I have an idea.
[He even snaps his fingers, for emphasis. He’s seen adults do it.]
Lemme take that circle thing and I can go search. Then they’ll know I know where you are, so they can trust me, and you don’t hafta get hurt or anything. Then when I find ‘em I’ll bring them back here.
no subject
No, that's not a very good idea. They'll just think you stole it, and then you'll get into a lot of trouble. Why don't we go together?
[He doesn't really want to wait around in a boring room somewhere anyway.]
It'll be more fun that way!
no subject
But what if someone attacks ya? I’m not good at fightin’. This way you stay safe!
[He’s gonna try it at least one more time before it turns into “just grabbing for it and screaming”, the extent of most of his plans.]
no subject
[He grins.]
I can fight pretty well, I've had some training. I'll protect you!
[Rhy looks awfully proud of himself, and totally ready to protect his new friend from... monsters...? or something.]
no subject
You don't-- w-- then why did ya come with me in the first place??
[Now he's just baffled.]
no subject
[That's enough reason, right? Besides, Rhy loves meeting new people.]
But I didn't know you couldn't protect yourself. I'm not really good at that stuff, but I'll do my best to keep you safe!
no subject
[That’s it, he can’t handle this anymore, the plan has bombed. He looks at Rhy almost helplessly for a second, and then just makes a grab for the circlet.]
Hand it over!!
no subject
[He's more startled by the sudden lunge than really aware of what Taako is going for. Rhy stumbles backwards, tripping over his own feet to land in the dust as he slowly realizes.]
Really? That's all you wanted?
[He looks hurt.]
no subject
I don't have time for friends! You've got plenty of stuff. You don't need it!
[But he could protect his sister with that. He could get so much money for that. He could-- there's so much he could do.]
But I do. So give it!
no subject
[He bites his lip, thinking hard. He really doesn't want to get in trouble.]
Can't I just give you money instead?
no subject
[Every time he's tried to take something, people have gotten mad. He's just scared. Taako's not used to people being scared of him.]
