By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.
And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!
Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...► This log covers January 23rd-Feb 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you trip over a kid and die, please let us know here.

He keeps pouting until she directs the light, but now he seems awfully interested in it, it's not a torch but it's as bright, the shadows it casts are a little scary, though. He walks very close to her, and when they are near the stairs, he grips from her clothes.
Which, by the way, are so weird... Namely, her pants. They don't have those where he comes from, nope.
"What's that little box?" Yeah, he means the phone.
no subject
"Um. It's a phone. You don't know what a phone is...?"
No, he doesn't look like he would, even though his older self did.
What did he mention about three-thousand years, when they first met? Shit.
She shifts, before heading up the stairs. It'll be safe to turn off the flashlight function soon.
no subject
Well, no, he doesn't know, it looks like a box that keeps light inside it, it's pretty cool! But he also doesn't want to fall and thus he doesn't let go of her. Stairs and all he keeps his grip strong around the loose fabric.
no subject
She arches a brow at his question.
"What? No, it's tech--" She pauses. "Well, guess it is magic here."
Since the gods made them out of nothing, and like everything else, things don't follow the same logic as they would in their own worlds. No wonder it drove the Null insane.

Once upstairs, he takes a look, keeping close to her even if it's no longer dark but he does let go of her clothes. It looks nothing like home. It also might be less cold, but it's still too cold for him, so he leans on her a little, seeking some more heat. She's warm. He also take a better look at her, it's hard not to keep his eyes on her multiple scars, but it's not only what he sees.
She looks very strong, either she fought a crocodile or... "Were you in the war?"
no subject
"Been in lots of wars," Rey says, more nonchalant than she ought to be. It isn't a light subject matter, though it is one that she knows better than how to deal with a kid hanging close to you because you're a walking furnace. "Not any of the ones you'd know, though."
An assumption she is just going to take a wild guess at, based on his speech and appearance and what Atem has told her so far. Hey, she's perceptive.
no subject
"Why?"
no subject
And that's how it had always been, until these last few years. It's a hard lesson to unlearn.
Before Atem can ask another question on the matter, Rey gestures at the various booths. Fortunately, the lights are dimmer, and with the exception of a few visiting patrons, the place is relatively quiet.
Pick a spot to sleep. Any spot to sleep.
no subject
He goes and picks the closest booth to them, he doesn't need to go further. He turns and looks at her.
"What's your name?"
no subject
She shouldn't be surprised when he asks for her name, though. After being here for so many years, not many things do.
"It's Rey. Will get you a blanket upstairs."
There might be some to spare, since Firo sleeps here as well.
no subject
"I'll go with you..."
Oh gosh, please don't leave me alone, or that's what those huge amaranthine eyes say.
no subject
"All right. Stick close, though. And don't touch anything. Not sure if Firo is around."
Or, if he is, whether he's in the same boat as many others are. Rey knows what a little shit Firo was as a child, having encountered him once in his dreams. She'd hate to see what sort of damage he'd be up to here.
He probably wouldn't appreciate a mess in his casino once things are back to normal, though.
no subject
"Who is Firo?"
Oh... But his little jaw drops when they get to the next level. What are all these artifacts!? He stares in awe and, well, yeah, of course he goes to see what these things are!
no subject
And there he goes, already scouting out the casino floor. Fortunately, it's pretty vacant right now.
Rey sighs. "--a friend," she finishes. Then, she has a thought. "You like games, kid?"
no subject
"Yes! I love them!" And the little shy guy is gone and a more cheerful one takes his place. "Are these games?! How do you play? Tell me!"
no subject
"Most of these are casino games." She glances over to the machine, where Sato had once so graciously took it upon himself to leave here. Probably so he had more reason to piss Rey and Firo off. "Ever heard of an arcade?"
Of course not, but she'll let the suspense build.
no subject
"What is it?!" She wanted to get him all excited about it? There, he is all excited at it.
no subject
Too late to back down now, since this kid went from gloomy and fatigued to suddenly wanting to get his hands on everything.
"Yes, casino. It's where people go to play games to win money. Though there's not exactly a currency here, so it's more for kicks." Rey then gestures towards the arcade in the corner of the casino area. "It's that machine over there. You can play it for free as much as you'd like."
Maybe that'll keep him distracted.
no subject
Playing to win money... That's such a foreign concept to him he needs to munch over it for a moment. Like a job? Playing and get paid for it?! Best job in the universe! Maybe he'll suggest that to his dad when he's back!
He sees the machine and takes a little sprint towards it, good thing that it's not cold in this floor as it was in the cellar, he seems to have forgotten about that. He seems marveled at the lights on the screen, having never seen something like that, but damn, he's too small (for his age) to reach the controls properly, so, he climbs the seat and kneels on it rather than sit properly to poke everything he can.
"Rey, play with me." That... shouldn't sound like an order, but it so does.
no subject
And when Atem rushes for the arcade, there's a fleeting second of foolishness where she thinks she might be off the hook. That is, until he speaks.
No thanks or Pass or even just Fuck off, kid are the thoughts that immediately come to mind next. She recognizes what an order sounds like when she hears one, but then she glances over and sees just how damned thrilled this guy is...
She sighs, scratching the side of her neck as she approaches the 'player 2' side.
"Fine. Just a few rounds, though. Don't want to be doing this all day."
Shit. She really has gotten soft, hasn't she?
no subject
"Thank you!" All right, see? Not everything is as it seems. He might be used to get what he wants, but he's thankful for it anyway.
Atem might have never seen one of these before, it seems he gets the hint of how to play pretty fast; just move the... stick thing, and that other thing on the shiny window moves, press red round thing and, it shoots something like a ... who knows, he'll say it's an arrow. So the whole thing is to stop the bugs to approach by shooting at them? Right, he can do this! Just watch him smash that button!
"Rey! Don't let them come through!"
no subject
Oh well. She's played these games before, either out of boredom or trying to keep Sato distracted after he first hauled this thing into the Speakeasy the first time with Firo. Another part of her life that she questions herself frequently, but at least it comes in handy when it ends up leaving young Atem entertained.
She huffs as she effectively shoots a mystery ship for additional points.
"I know, this isn't the first--"
And there goes another defense bunker.
Her eyes narrow at the arcade screen. "You bastards."
Rey is a hardened killing machine, and she will make these pixel aliens pay or die trying.
i felt like replying this i'm sorry
Thank you, Rey.
"Die, die, die!" He yells as he presses that button as fast as his little hand allows him to. "Rey, Rey! Bring it down! Bring it down!" He obviously (or not) means to get that mystery ship again, but it's a little too fast for him! Actually, the whole thing might be a little to fast for him, but he's doing so great!
never be sorry.
"No worries. That asshole's going down."
Case in point.
But at least she's decent enough at this game to be true to her word. So there.
no subject
She bursts the mystery ship and Atem tosses his arms in the air, "You're so good at this!" He's extremely happy and excited, his cheeks red already from the emotion — and when the game is over (they won, of course!) he stands on his seat and throws his arms around Rey's neck, hugging her tight.
"We did it!"
