By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.
And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!
Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...► This log covers January 23rd-Feb 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you trip over a kid and die, please let us know here.

She sniffles, searching his features for signs of a lie. When she finds none, she unfurls just a bit, but still looks tense.]
I don't think monsters are allowed on the surface. I don't know how I got here. And I d-don't want to get in trouble...
no subject
[He spent most of his young life scared, so he knows what it looks like. He doesn't want her to be scared, though, and he's doing his best to make things seem safe - of course nothing here is ever really safe, but at least he can be sure that she's not really in any danger. Hopefully he can convince her of that, too.]
Maybe you're not allowed up here at home, but this is a different place. No one is going to get mad at you for being here.
[Though realizing she's on a totally different world might not be comforting, either...]
no subject
I mean, I don't even know how I coulda gotten here, it's... m-monsters have been tryin' to make it past the Barrier forever. Did King Asgore figure it out and free everybody? Is that why its ok?
no subject
[At least, that's the simplest explanation Adam is able to give at the moment. Hadriel, the Door, the gods - it just gets confusing.]
Were you trapped, before?
no subject
All Monsters are. We're not supposed to be above ground.
[But if she made it out, maybe someone else had to...?]
Did other monsters make it out? Maybe my dad's here...
no subject
[But, of course, he doesn't know - it could be possible. Still, he'd rather not get her hopes up.]
There are monsters here, but most of them aren't like you. They can't talk or think.
no subject
Well then you’re not thinkin’ about m-monsters. You’re thinkin’ about animals. Monsters can talk and think ’n stuff.
[It’s a silly mistake, probably. Humans just don’t know.]
But uh… w-what do I do then?
no subject
Well... you can stay with me for now, and I'll make sure no one thinks you're the kind of monster that should be chased away or hurt.
[Not that Adam thinks that's likely, but it might soothe her a little to hear that.]
no subject
After a few seconds, she looks back up at him.]
… Okay. I guess, uhm, j-just for a while. Until I can call my dad.
[She’ll find him soon, and they’ll explore the surface together.]
no subject
[Not that finding him is very likely, but... well, you never know. And she's so small and scared, Adam really thinks she needs all the help she can get, even if the only thing it does is make you feel better.]
Do you like dogs? Or ravens?
no subject
I dunno any ravens, but my Dad works with dogs sometimes!! They’re all members of the Royal Guard. He sees them when the King comes by, or uhm, j-just around sometimes. They’re all really nice.
no subject
I have a dog at home. He's not... well, probably not as intelligent as the ones you know, but I'm sure he'd like you anyway.
no subject
Oh, so like a regular n-not magic dog, like not a dog monster. That’s okay!
[Maybe it’ll be like that little dog who only ever yaps at her when he comes around. She can never get his name!]
I’ll, uhm, I’ll be nice, I promise.
no subject
[Well, sort of. But the more in-depth explanation is confusing, and he pretty much is just a normal dog, so Adam figures it's best to leave it at that.]
You seem pretty nice. Here, let's head to where I live. It's safe, and you can hang out there until you know where to go.
[Adam really doesn't want to leave her to wander around the city. She's just... so tiny.]
no subject
Okay. What’s their name? I wanna be sure to, uhm, g-get it right.
no subject
He takes her hand carefully and starts walking.]
I actually live with three other, um, creatures. My dog's name is Aspen. We also have a raven, Chainsaw, but she really belongs to Ronan. He lives with me too.
no subject
No idea what a chainsaw is, though. That’s probably for the best.]
That’s a bird, right? I haven’t really m-met a bird. I’ll do my best.
[What goes into meeting a bird? They don’t really have hands to shake. Does she shake the wing or the foot?? Man, this is gonna be tough.]
no subject
[She's significantly more approachable than Ronan, at least. Adam is pretty confident that neither of the animals will be frightened by Alphys, for all that she's not human. They're used to weirdness, and she's very non-threatening.]
Do people where you're from have pets?
no subject
Yeah! Some p-people keep them. Like snails or fish. But not like, fish monsters, just fish.
[That makes... sense, probably.]
no subject
Did you ever have one?
[He leads her through the city, careful to walk slowly so she doesn't have trouble keeping up.]
no subject
[Which makes sense to her. She'd be sad if she was alone all the time too, after all.]
But I hope I can someday.
no subject
[Which is why Adam never really had a pet before, either - he just didn't have time to take care of one properly.]
I'm sure you can when you're older. Your dad sounds smart.
no subject
[She'll do her best!!]
no subject
[And as they approach Adam's house, it's clearly true - a dog comes running out to meet them, clearly overjoyed. He's polite, though, or at least well-trained, and doesn't jump on Alphys, just sniffing her instead.]
This is Aspen.
no subject
H-Hi Aspen! I'm Alphys. It's nice to meet you, and uhm, thanks for letting me stay with you.
[At least she's polite. Even if she just keeps giving head pats.]
