Event Log: The Hope of a Child

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the The Hope of a Child event
Where: All over the city!
When: January 23rd-Feb 1st
Warnings: Youths

By now, the gods have probably done enough weird crap to you while you're asleep for you to be a little suspicious- but it's not like you can just not sleep, especially when there are a few supernatural forces making your eyes droopy and your body feel heavy.

And now, when you fall asleep, you'll wake up somewhere else and you'll likely have quite a different temperament- you'll be younger, maybe a little more naive and innocent, and you won't exactly remember all the wild stuff that's happened to your adult self. Maybe now you'll be a little more trusting and emotional, hm? The gods could definitely use a little boost in power, and what better way to do it than to harness the power of overemotional kiddos!

Or maybe you aren't affected at all and find yourself surrounded by youths. What are you going to do when your best friend doesn't know how to cook for themselves? Or your bitter rival is throwing a temper tantrum because they broke their favorite toy? Nobody asked for this kind of responsibility, but think about what would happen if nobody was around to take care of these babies...

► This log covers January 23rd-Feb 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you trip over a kid and die, please let us know here.

My home is ...kind of like this, very hot, there is the desert, but it's golden, not so white. There is a long, beautiful river that crosses along the land. What's yours like?

Now it's his turn to try the peaches. He does and his face brightens, he's never had something so sweet!
roseofthetyrells: (*you've got your hand on the button)

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-02-15 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Golden would be prettier than white. Do you go boating on your river?

Mine is green everywhere. Everywhere. We grow the wheat, barley, corn, apples, peaches, and grapes for all of Westeros. They say that my home is called The Reach because we give your hands something to reach for at the dinner table. Highgarden, my family's keep, is especially beautiful. Roses so yellow they look as though they were made of gold, hedge mazes, and orchards. It's beautiful.

He gives her a little nod.

Yeah, it's fun, you get to see a lot of animals, though, we have to be careful of crocodiles and hippos.

He listens to her words, his eyes going wide at them. It sounds pretty.

What are roses?
roseofthetyrells: (*so show me love)

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-02-15 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
What are crocodiles and hippos? The word "crocodiles" sounds angry.

[The Reach is the most beautiful part of Westeros]

They're a flower that we use for our House sigil. [she pulls a fine gold chain out and shows him the charm hanging off of it] Roses look sort of like this. They have velvety petals and they smell good, but you have to be careful of the thorns.

Crocodiles are these huge repites! Their jaws are this big 「He, of course, extends arms all the way.」 and they could eat a lion in single bite. 「Eh... sort of?」 And hippos? It's short for hippopotamus. They are also very big, but it's like a water cow. They won't bother you unless you enter their territory. Except crocs, they are always hungry.

Oh, a flower!

It's pretty. We don't have those back home. 「Yet.」 But we have water lilies. They are pretty too.
roseofthetyrells: (*you've got your hand on the button)

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-02-15 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[her eyes widen at the description of crocodiles] That sounds dangerous! Is there any way to make them behave? [and she considers] A water cow. We have land cows, but nothing like a water cow.

[yes and one that House Tyrell has taken great pains to cultivate.

she thinks a moment]
I don't think this place would have them. It's too dry. Roses need to be watered. And we have water lilies back home, too. What color is your favorite?
puzzlingly: (☥ 12.)

[personal profile] puzzlingly 2018-02-15 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, they are really dangerous. But, not really, better leave them alone.

He thinks about it.

Some are purple, and sometimes they can be so dark they look like the sky at night, some are rosey, oh, are roses called like that because of the color? Hmm, some are also also white, but all of them have different shapes... I like them all. And you?
roseofthetyrells: (*or am I in-between?)

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-02-16 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it sounds like they're best avoided. Like krakens on the sea.

Probably they are. Roses are often pink or red, but House Tyrell favors the yellow roses due to our sigil. And I think I like the white ones best. It's not a House color, but it goes well with my complexion.
puzzlingly: (☥ 116.)

[personal profile] puzzlingly 2018-02-16 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
What are those? Do you live close to the sea?

Sounds cool somehow.

With her... complexion? That makes him stare at her for a moment... Then he shrugs.
roseofthetyrells: (*she's got a mouse to feed)

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-02-16 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Krakens are squid. Gigantic squid which can drag an entire ship into the sea. My mother's family, House Hightower, lives by the sea and so does my Grandmother's family, House Redwyne They both have fleets of ships for trade and travel. And House Greyjoy uses the kraken as its sigil.

[part of the lessons in charm involved what did and what didn't look good on her. white goes well with her pale skin and blue eyes]
puzzlingly: (☥ 81.)

[personal profile] puzzlingly 2018-02-16 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
That still doesn't make sense at al. But gigantic does!

What's with all the houses?
roseofthetyrells: (*or am I in too deep?)

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-02-17 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
They're the noble families of Westeros. Each House has land that they oversee and swear fealty to one of the Great Houses, like Tyrell.
puzzlingly: (☥ 55.)

[personal profile] puzzlingly 2018-02-19 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Don't you have a king to rule over all the land?

It sounds odd to him.
roseofthetyrells: (*or am I in-between?)

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-02-19 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course we do. King Robert Baratheon, First of His Name. He won the throne through right of conquest after the fall of the Targaryen dynasty.

[the Tyrells fought on the wrong side of that war, but were pardoned by Robert]
puzzlingly: (☥ 12.)

[personal profile] puzzlingly 2018-02-22 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Won it...

That's strange.

Can anyone be king there were you're from?

Sounds a little problematic.
roseofthetyrells: (*show me love)

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-02-23 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Prince Rhaegar Targaryen kidnapped Robert's betrothed, Lyanna Stark. Her father and eldest brother went to King's Landing to protest but Rhaegar's father, the Mad King Aerys killed them and gave the order to Jon Arryn to kill Robert Baratheon and Eddard Stark, his wards. Lord Arryn refused and Robert's Rebellion begun. Robert slew Rhaegar at the Battle of the Trident and the Kingslayer, Jaime Lannister, killed the Mad King during Tywin Lannister's sack of King's Landing.

[and thus ends your impromptu Westerosi History Lesson]

Not anyone. King Robert has a son, Prince Joffrey, who is a couple of years younger than I am, he'll be king when Robert dies.

puzzlingly: (☥ 116.)

[personal profile] puzzlingly 2018-02-25 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
What a messy mess! All those names don't make any sense but it's amazing she knows them all. He just nods as if he understood, yeah, he doesn't.

Oh... I see.

He, not often thinks about that fact. Being a prince himself, her words reach him and make him all sorts of uncomfortable.

I hope King Robert never dies then...
roseofthetyrells: (*throw me in the flames)

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-02-25 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
[it's all very recent history to her. Robert's Rebellion ended just before she was born.

she'd be very sorry to know that if she did]

He has to die eventually. Everybody dies. But it shouldn't be for a long time. Though, he still likes to participate in tourneys. Grandmother says that's foolish when you're a king.
puzzlingly: (☥ 77.)

[personal profile] puzzlingly 2018-02-25 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Everybody dies... She's right but-- He doesn't want to keep thinking about that.

What are those?

Maybe changing the topic would help.
roseofthetyrells: (*or am I in-between?)

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-02-25 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
[blame Olenna Tyrell's education of the girl. she doesn't believe in hiding the nastier aspects of life]

Tourneys? That's when a group of knights compete against each other for prizes. There's the joust, where knights are paired up and expected to knock each other off of their horses with their lances and there's the grand melee. That's when knights on horse and on foot fight against each other in a huge group until only one knight is left standing.
puzzlingly: (☥ 12.)

[personal profile] puzzlingly 2018-02-25 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Knights... Joust... Horses, oh, he knows horses, at least. By mere chance, they weren't even part of Egypt a few thousand of years back.

Ah... Like a contest. What is the prize?

Sounds barbaric, there is no such thing where he comes from, their entertainment was more... mellow.
roseofthetyrells: (*take me all the way)

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-02-25 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
[horses are extremely important in Westeros. the roads are often bad and it's much easier to get around on a horse than on foot]

Yes, like a contest! And usually, the prize is money but the winner of the joust gets both money and the right to crown the Queen of Love and Beauty.

[much about Westeros is barbaric, there's no denying that]
puzzlingly: (☥ 117.)

[personal profile] puzzlingly 2018-02-25 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh dear, that has him laughing, it sounds so silly!
roseofthetyrells: (*bring me to the fire)

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-02-25 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
[she has said nothing amusing in her opinion]

...what are you laughing at?
puzzlingly: (☥ 76.)

[personal profile] puzzlingly 2018-02-25 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, oops.

Getting gold from knocking each other off of their horses sounds dumb.

Not to mention the queen part, honestly.
