What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th
Warnings: Stealth Rock
It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.
There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!
To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!► This log covers April 14th-April 19th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you get hit by levitating rubble or eat a food that wasn't meant for you, please let us know here.
kate / ota
➥ in the city; open
( The rubble which levitates through the air leaves the streets clean and the skies filled with debris, dotting a path between the buildings which are standing that can only be used for one purpose.
Catch Kate hopping from one piece of levitating rubble to the next, a blur of yellow and a nest of (still) blonde hair, as though walking on the ground is too complicated to bother with. If you’re particularly unlucky, you might end up with something - someone - dropping down from above when she approaches the newly formed housing, her only warning a brief Oi! barked from above. )
… Small.
( She’s talking about the houses. Probably. )
two/ where we’ve fallen and our paths have crossed
➥ at the feast; open
( The smell of seafood hits Kate before she can properly take in the expansive feast, her head turning in the direction of the scent automatically. She doesn’t hurry over, there’s no running or desperation to get to the food, but there’s a glint to her eyes and a purposefulness to her steps which suggests that she is going to inhale those oysters one way or another.
Preferably with the bottles of high end looking tequila next to it as a chaser. You need chasers for oysters, right? )
Fuck-
( No, really, do you know how long it’s been since she had any seafood, let alone something this good?
After a few oysters have been slurped down, she can be found checking out other food (and nibbling a few cheese-filled dough balls) and enjoying the familiar bite of alcohols of all shapes and sizes. Feel free to tell her to stop hogging all the tequila. )
two
she's currently in food heaven right now. she plans to eat everything she has, then go back for seconds. and thirds. and fourths. hey, a Reaper metabolism has to be good for something and one of those things is not gaining weight.
oh yeah, and she's also toting around a container of orange juice. which she had plans to mix with the tequila. it's drink o'clock in the morning and George is eyeing that tequila and not being particularly subtle about it]
Yo, mind passing some of that stuff my way when you get a chance?
no subject
( She's definitely going to drink more than is recommended for a person to drink but Kate doesn't plan on dying to liver failure tonight. There's more than enough tequila to go around, anyway, so she hands some over. )
Missed food?
( Said while eyeing up George's plate, even though Kate can't talk with the noises she made upon coming into contact with the first recognisable seafood in months. )
no subject
[she takes the tequila and adds it to the orange juice. George, too, will drink far more than anyone should, but it takes as much alcohol to kill a mortal to make George even a little tipsy. there are some benefits to being a Reaper]
Oh hell yeah. It's been way too long since I've had something that wasn't from a can. You?
[George will probably make her way to that later, she's planning to sample a little bit of everything]
no subject
A shrug rolls off her shoulders quickly enough. Dating someone who actually knows how to cook means that the majority of her meals are good despite the awful contents of the shops in the last few months, but all the same- )
Missed proper seafood. ... Something like it, I guess.
( Does it count as proper seafood if a god randomly conjured them? )

I'm glad to see you here.

:D
Thought you'd overlook me.
( Dammit, Kate. You hang out with your boyfriend too much. )

[Grin]
Well, I couldn't miss this opportunity. After all, you ditched our neighbor club. I don't know when I'll catch you again
[The sacred bond of neighbor-ness, Kate]

Found a smaller place. ( Because, you know, a one bedroom apartment wasn't quite small enough. )
Free to visit.
( You know, leave your place and all of that. )
One!
Suddenly the ground shakes violently, and what is left of the buildings destroyed by the Null begins to tumble down -- and then, amazingly, to tumble up. Curufin grabs his phone to call in an emergency, but the ground abruptly stops heaving and a wonder occurs. New buildings suddenly explode from the ground or from the floating debris, it is hard to tell which.
And yet another wonder! An exclamation from above, and there is Kate Galloway, springing from one piece of airborne rubble to the next! And now she comes down to the ground, but being who she is, she appears to Curufin to be wafting as lightly as blown dandelion seed. He makes a gesture of astonishment. ]
Kate! You're, ah, UP EARLY. [ Grin. ]

When she drops down, her plaits thud against her back and she brushes her forehead free of the sweat which glistens there. )
Always am.
( A nod of greeting as she catches her breath before speaking further. )
You too. What's the occasion?
no subject
Early risers have all the fun. [ Smile. ]
[ He really is pleased to see her. She looks cheerful and energetic, launching herself into the morning. ]
I'm sneaking out of the house for a bit, had to wait till my brother Maglor was asleep. He'll scold me when I get back, insist I'm not well enough to be gadding about town, but I needed a breath of fresh air and a turn around the block. [ It's more than around the block. He's now a couple of miles from his house. ]

As for Curufin, he does look better than he would have a couple of weeks ago, but Kate gives him a stern brow raise which quickly ends in a quirk of the lips, amused more than anything. )
Not one to stay still?

city
Only a month in and already she's apparently impressed by someone who can jump around on rocks. Great. Why are the rocks floating, again? That's a memo she missed.
As she moves closer, she recognizes the woman - one of those people who first greeted her on arrival. One of the few who looked capable of actual combat. Well, then that all makes good sense. The question then becomes, does she leave her be or does she try to test Kate's skills? The latter sounds a lot more interesting. Maybe a mix of the two - maybe there's an answer for all this floating bits of rubble she can get. Kate had been helpful before.
Caedra takes a moment to cast flight on herself, then propels herself upward through the air and lands on a block of stone not far from Kate and surveys the sight from the new point of view.]
What's going on here? This stuff wasn't floating earlier.
no subject
Ah. That's why. It's hard to forget those eyes, and recognition flickers over her face before she answers. )
Wish I knew.
( But the gods weren't often in the habit of explaining. They have, but not for this specific happening as far as she knows.
With the constant movement of the debris towards the sky, Kate doesn't stay in one place long, managing to skip onto a rooftop and find a moment of stillness across the skyline of the city. )
Had to guess... Hope's at work.
( Along with the barrier forming around the city, that seems a logical conclusion. )
no subject
At least this rooftop is stable. For now. Caedra isn't entirely sure what's going on here or what the goal is. Maybe all of the buildings will uproot and fly away forever and then all these people will be left struggling against the elements.
Or not but that's totally what she would do if she was in control.]
Hope. That's the one who revives people and tries to keep this whole place together, right? Mostly?
[Along with a few other qualities that makes her pretty sure he's everything she hates in one person.]
no subject
( It gets a nod, and Kate's eyes cast across the rubble dotted across the skyline, mapping out new paths between buildings. It's certainly different, making her way across the city like this, but she likes it. After months of being stuck making strange detours on the rooftops due to derelict, destroyed buildings, these floating blocks are a blessing. )
One who gives us most the stuff here.
( Sure, the other gods provide certain things, but Hope seems to be worked to the bone to keep their hosts alive and healthy enough to feed off. )

[A familiar voice gently teases Kate's voracious assault on the unassuming molluscs. She might be surprised to see Glacius here, given his skepticism of "favors" done for them by the gods and his general dislike of crowds... but he knows that it is important to snatch up the little occasions of normalcy or happiness when they are provided. Moreover his partner had actually wanted to come out to this event, and the ice alien had been hoping to catch some familiar faces given just how many people he knew in the city had departed, so he had good motivation to show up.
And he's glad he did upon spotting one of his closest friends. Glacius ambles over, frosty footsteps painting his path towards the woman.] I'm partial to seafood myself, you know. Preferably cold. I may have to try one of those. They are from your world, I am assuming?
no subject
But that's for another time, when she isn't indulging and relaxing. ) Oysters. ( She points to the thing she was just shovelling down, then to a little glass next to it. ) Prawn cocktail. Should be cold.
( It might not be her favourite, but it is cold. ) Think I saw sushi as well.
( Or sashimi. No one ever said she knew the difference. )
no subject
[So many people have been lost; his once solid network of support has truly fallen in numbers. But that's one of the reasons he came here: to try and reach out again despite his often reclusive tendencies. The ice alien tries to recover.] Well, I will... I will just have to have some in her memory, then. Sitting with a good friend should help curb some of that pain as well. May I?
no subject
Emily. One of those they'd had around for so long that her loss became an ache, a hole in the city they were used to. Kate says nothing, simply leaning into Glacius, gently bumping her shoulder against his arm without really thinking about it. It's not the biggest piece of contact in the world, but it's more than she would have once shown.
People keep exposing her to contact and closeness. It's revolting. )
Sure. What're you drinking?
( She may be drinking a few too many tequilas and somethings. Or just straight shots of tequila. )

Collecting Hopes.
( That's still... vaguely strange to think about, but if it helps them, Kate is all for it. That's the important part, more than the gods' weird cannibalism styles. )
